Wool Growers Restaurant is Olive Garden on steroids!…read more I love coming here and getting "the set-up" that is equivalent to Olive Garden's soup/salad/breadsticks. My main dish has to be the pickled tongue sandwich. It's Basque food at its finest. Not everyone is a fan of pickled tongue, but for me it tastes just like roast beef if it were pickled. So delicious! I tried the oxtail stew for the first time and it tasted warm and comforting. Like those ones you'd have as a kid from out of a Campbell's can, except way better! Their whole staff is very friendly and attentive, which is saying something, especially if you're seated in their Banquet Room. There's a ton of people in there! I love that the main entrance feels very "hole in the wall." It's tucked away in Old Town Kern and is one of those places you just need to experience. It has such a cozy, homey vibe, which makes it great for all sorts of family celebrations. I love walking down the hallway with all the frames hanging on the walls. Wool Growers is a classic. Highly recommend!!

We were able to find ample parking in the lot on a Saturday around 2pm. We walked into the bar and it took me a while for my eyes to adjust from it being so bright outside and dark inside, but you walk right into the middle of the bar with a large bar top and booths around the room. We walked to the restaurant side, which was super cute, but we went to the patio. The patio was super cute as well, with plants all over and there were giant fans for when it gets really hot outside. Our server was awesome too, and I mean awesome because when she came to take our orders I had seen a very tiny very pregnant little black and white cat and I asked about her. Our server was AMAZING in telling me that the local cats are pretty taken care of because she could tell I was concerned and distracted LOL We put in our orders: sister's favorite is the NY Steak French Fry Salad, husband got the Bacon Avocado Pepperjack burger, and I couldn't decide so I got the Basque lunch setup. All the food was awesome. My different dishes were delivered as they were ready and there was so much! The basque lunch is a good value as well in my opinion:) Everyone was very happy with their food and drinks. The restroom was small but worked just fine and pretty clean. I will definitely be back to try more things from the Pyrenees Cafe huge menu and awesome staff (and cute kittens).

First the restaurant has a very warm and inviting atmosphere. When we first arrived the waitress was very nice and sat us down right away. So many different items we wanted to try and will need to come back. Ended up getting the latin friend chicken, seafood mixta, boneless pork chops and the brazillian trip tip. The fried chicken came out first and was super moist and crunchy which was a hit with everyone. Seafood mixta came out super hot so took some time to cool down, but was full of various seafood and the soup base was very good. Used the bread to soak up the soup. Very hearty and would be great during winter time. The pork chops were good but not a favorite. The tri tip was grilled perfectly medium-rare, but what made the meal up a notch was the chimichurri sauce. Everyone at the table that tried it also loved the sauce. Almost forgot to mention we got the rice, vegetables, black beans and sweet potato fries. The sides were OK but the sweet potato fries were definitely a would get again item. It had just enough crispness and sweetness not to mention the ketchup sauce that has a nice kick to it. Highly recommend that one. This place is very good and would definitely come back again when in the downtown area. Would like to try the other seafood options.

We had empenadas, jerk chicken, arepas, fried shrimp, and a side of beans with plantains. It was all pretty good, but nothing really blew me away. I really like the jerk sauce on the chicken, but the chicken itself was just a slow cooked breast without much flavor or texture. The arepas were just cornmeal and cheese, without any of the other ingredients I've usually seen in the past (although they did come with a tasty green salsa). I think my favorite item was the salt and pepper shrimp, which had a really good flavor. Plantains and beans are also delicious. There were a few other dishes we wanted to try, such as the ceviche, but unfortunately they were out of it that night. I would come back again to try some other dishes in the future.

I discovered Brazas a couple of years ago and it instantly became a favorite!…read more With its beautiful upscale interior, you wouldn't guess that this location was previously a Hooters restaurant. Their darkened windows help to set the ambiance, paired with lots of greenery that created an almost tropical/jungle vibe. The staff here is always very friendly and attentive. They are always willing to help make your experience great. My favorite dish to order is their Camarones Brazas. If you're a fan of shrimp, then you can't pass this one up. It's breaded shrimp that is simmered in the most magical wine & jalapeño sauce, giving it that beautiful golden color. They top it with bell peppers, tomatoes, and avocados, with a side of rice placed at the center of the plate, and garnished with some cilantro and micro greens. This presentation was everything, and it tasted just as good as it looked! This unique blend of flavors has my mouth watering just thinking about it. If you're looking for a fun spot, where the food lives up to the fancy aesthetic--try Brazas!

To start they always serve their fresh bread with a tapenade and the delicious locally made Ohannsen olive oil. Tonight the Baramundi was on special. I always order it if they have it. It is lightly sautéed served over capellini, sauté of spinach and a creamy sauce of lemon, capers & artichoke. To die for! It is the best seafood dish I have ever had. My Dad ordered the lamb lollipop special, it was mouth watering. It's too bad that isn't on their regularly menu. It was succulent and cooked to perfection served with a saffron risotto. They serve dinner only but it is a romantic environment, great for a date night as well. If you haven't been, don't wait, go enjoy one of Bakersfield's finest Italian restaurants.

The Caesar salad is exceptional with house-made dressing and a generous amount of shaved Parm. The Fettuccine Carbonara though not a true traditional carbonara due to the use of cream as a stabilizer and prosciutto rather than guanciale, is delicious as well. The lasagna was delicious and kept us going back for more until we had no room left after consuming the table bread. The staff is friendly, attentive, and accommodating along with an inviting yet buttoned atmosphere. The restaurant is clean and dimly like t with each table fitted with a lamp for dining. The restrooms are clean as well. The bad reviews here are not a reflection of our experience and we will return again when we're in the area.

They were stuffed with chorizo, potatoes, and eggs, then fried to perfection so they were crispy without being greasy. The salsa on the side paired perfectly with them, and I even dipped them in the consommé from my mom's meal, which took them to another level! My husband ordered the A Huevo Que Sí and it was packed with flavor. The birria was incredibly tender, and the combination with the eggs and sauce was absolutely delicious. My mom isn't usually a breakfast person, so she ordered the quesabirria tacos, and they did not disappoint! The tacos were cheesy, flavorful, and the consommé was rich and perfectly seasoned. I definitely stole a few dips for my flautas! My dad had the Huevos Rancheros, and they were also excellent. Everything tasted fresh, the portions were generous, and every plate looked just as good as it tasted. The service was friendly, the food came out hot, and you can tell they put a lot of care into every dish. The photos speak for themselves, everything was fresh, colorful, and absolutely delicious.
