We had a delicious Valentines dinner last night at Noriega's with friends. Filet mignon , lobster sauce with chunks of lobster and topped with yummy big shrimp . Vegetable was asparagus and cooked perfect. Plus champagne and red wine . And of course the Basque set up .For dessert red velvet cupcakes, which were really good. All I have to say is compliments to the chef .Thank you to everyone that work there . You made valentines day extra special!! read more

We have had dinner and breakfast there and both have been excellent. Dinner was from the menu but served family style for our group. It was wonderful. Breakfast was as close to those served at the old place as I can recall. It was terrific. I had to remind myself that we were not back on Sumner Street. Pork chops, bacon, sausage, eggs in omelette or as you prefer and wine on the table. Dry Jack cheese, French fries, and sourdough bread. The only thing missing was hearing people speaking in Basque. Service was the best. We loved the place and you will too, I am certain. I was sad to see that the place was not well attended during either visit. The owners are working very hard at authenticity and it shows. Let's not let this place fail. It needs support. read more

Felt like trying some Basque while passing through Bakersfield. All the sides, I.e., beans, bread, fries, green salad, etc., were delicious. The potato salad was not quite up to par. Main course was chile verde & garlic chicken accompanied by the fries. Chile verde was delicious but very picoso (hot). I loved it as it was the way my mama made it. Just neede some flour tortillas to go wit it. Red wine went well with the meal. Only reason for the rating of four is that the garlics overpowered the chicken & we all agreed that potato salad was not up to the level of the other items. Service was excellent but it is pricey. read more

It's a trap. You walkin wait to get seated then the food arrives. You are not warned or told about a single thing, you ask for a menu after you have started eating the soup and then told you have to get the setup with two entires they chose. $56 for food you had no choice of choosing. Served pork sausage and I don't eat pork. read more

Although the food was well prepared, the servings were very stingy. We went on a Thursday for fried chicken and ribs. They allocated one piece of chicken per person and there were not enough ribs to go around. They were short on soup and salad. When we asked for more food, we were told that no more food had been prepared. The waiter did not know what was for dessert. He said that it was "chef's choice." He served half melted chocolate ice cream. The attitude of the waiter was very poor. read more

This was the most disgusting food that I have ever had in a restaurant. Everything came from a can ! We asked about the soup and the waitress said it was Chefs choice - if there is a Chef ? The soup was tomato paste with some water added to cook some noodles. The corn came straight out of can too . The meat dishes had no flavor. The table wine was really bad. Any time you asked the waitress about the choices she said, Chefs choice - chocolate chip ice cream thrown in a bowl is a chefs dessert choice? This is worse than any cafeteria food. I spent over $360.00 for 8 people. It isn't worth a penny . There is absolutely no atmosphere ; bare walls with a coke dispenser on one wall. The tables are second hand- the legs of these tables are crooked looks like they are going break any minute. Wrought iron pillar was by our table and belongs in the outside entrance of a house in the1960's. read more

To premise: worked and managed restaurants 20+ years. Mom & pop places to ultra high volume. my first issue was with the bar, I got there 40 minutes after they opened and ordered a beer, then askEd for a lime. They didn't have any fruit at their station at all. They said someone was cutting limes but I never saw a lime. Got to the table with my two guests and as in the original it's family seating, another party of four sat next to us so they were in our group. In every good Basque restaurant the order the food comes out as follows: salsa, bread, cottage cheese, butter and tongue on the table first. Soup comes out with beans, salad next, first entree with vegetable and fries then second entree with pasta immediately after. So tonight the salsa thru tongue was on the table but in very small portion (supposed to feed 7 people!) then soup and salad, next the beans came out late. then the first entree came out. After everyone had devoured the first entree THEN the vegetable cam out. with another lull the second entree came then another pause then the fries and pasta. The service seemed like they hadn't been trained well, that's managements fault. The food was out of order and I had to asked for more of the first & second entree because at about $35 a person one piece each wasn't going to cut it. I wish them well but they need better training, make the portions much bigger to accommodate the section of the tables instead of asking for more and get the right food out at the right time. read more

Was excited to hear this place open here in the southwest so that we wouldn't have to drive to sumner. Loved the OG Noriegas so didn't think twice about coming here. It's next to outback steak house. Upon entering the place was very plain. Like it was just thrown together. No character or anything. Whatever I guess they're new and might do something later on. The food on the other hand was a major let down. From what we were told it's the old chef so consistency should've been there, but wasn't. Nothing seemed to be organized in an intelligent way. They just kept bring stuff out haphazardly which threw you off. It was off putting. The soup was cold. Like not even warm. Room temp. The beans had a distinct bite to em. Partially cooked? The salad was ok. Just your basic salad. Chicken was not seasoned right. No flavor and very very dry. Not worth paying almost $30. Huge disappointment. This is nothing like the old Noriega. read more

Too much good food! I'm really glad Noriega's is still around and with the original chef. *chef kiss* The family style set up and atmosphere really makes for a great night. You'll leave full, happy, and probably drunk. read more

Never actually ate here but come on thursdays to karaoke it's a pretty nice place, the DJ Casey makes it fun, the drinks are the bar are more expensive than casa tequila which is the reason for the 4 stars. read more

I've been a few times. hit and miss with the food. Last time soup was cold - not even room temp, and so were the fries. Baked chicken was good, however, the food is brought out haphazardly - no flow that is common with Basque restaurants. My biggest pet peeve, is that they are using the Elizalde FAMILY crest - the crest does not have anything to do with Noriega's. Yes, they took the family name of Elizalde off, but it's an insult to them to have the crest changed - and used improperly. Service has always been good. read more

(With tax and tip $50 per person)Was looking forward to going to new Noriega for dinner with 5 couples. place was crowded and very noisy, seated down to eat and no because small portion of food was coming out fast, portions were not enough to feel the table had to keep getting the servers for more food. Truly a new Noriega food was horrible and the main meal was not worth eating chewy and tasteless no one in our group finished their meal. One person got a doggie bag to take to his dog read more

Our first visit at the new location, with new owners. So disappointed. Everything was cold and no rhythm with the delivery. If you have ever had family style Basque, there is an order. Although the recipes were Noriegas, the food just wasn't the same. I will, of course try it again on a different night. I'll give them another chance. Hoping they work on the delivery of the food. read more

Very disappointed as we were very excited about trying the new location! Upon arrival, we were told to sit anywhere. After sitting and waiting over 10 minutes to be acknowledged from anyone (with only two other customers at the bar) We were not given menus, or offered anything. In conclusion, we walked out. read more

I had lunch today at Noriega's it a Saturday. I called ahead to find out what the main entries were going to be because they vary on Saturday and Sunday at lunch. I was informed that they would be having lobster and shrimp pasta plus Tri-tip roast. Lunch starts out with the basic setup which includes soup, salad, bread, blue cheese, beans, potato salad and salsa. Next the main entries were brought out the lobster and shrimp pasta was cooked Al dente was perfect, tasted delicious. Next was a generous portion of sliced Tri tip, it was also very tasty. Special thanks to my server Pollie who was the best. Overall I would highly recommend this place for lunch or dinner but make sure you come with an appetite. read more

I think the new location is great it's larger and classy. I love the bar. Great servers The Food was still great and plentiful new owners but same cook I loved it. Please do reservations. Oh. My. Goodness! Here for lunch during the week. We will back. The servers are so attentive to your needs and the food...SO GOOD! We loved our Noriega's for decades. I was hesitant to try. My mistake! This will be on our "go to list"! read more

Noriegas is a great place! I love the new location, the people there have been extremely nice each time.(I've been there multiple times now) The food has been delicious each and every time! I've had the fish and clam chowder (my new favorite) for lunch on Friday's before and it was fantastic. Also during dinner I can't seem to get enough of their cabbage soup! I've enjoyed the oxtails, chicken, steak, and lamb on the different nights they've served them. And they always make sure you've enjoyed the meal. I've only had to ask for more a couple of times and they gladly brought more to the table. My goal is to try each meal from the different evenings available. My next one will be the Prime Rib on Wednesday. I can't wait to go back! read more

We enjoyed our special Valentine's day dinner. We are not local to Bakersfield and enjoyed chatting with the two couples seated near us. Food and service were excellent and cannot wait to return. read more

This place is so awkward. I've dined at several restaurants in California, and the fact that there wasn't a host or anyone welcoming you in here makes it feel like you're entering someone's home as an uninvited guest. There was a large group of people at the bar on a Sunday morning. I asked the bartender/server if we'd be able to be seated or if it was too busy. She did have a lot going on, but she said she was going to start seating everyone soon. I told her I knew she was busy, I just wanted to know if we should go elsewhere. We decided to leave since we figured if it took that long to even get an answer (which I had to go and find the server to get an answer) about when we'd be seated how much longer it would take to get our food. read more

they have the best food ever! the service was even better! so nice! they even have a dj coming during the night! definitely will be back!

So so so disappointed! Been a staple with my husbands family for many years. New owners so we had to give it a try..... Went for Breakfast: We expected the usual, Omelet, Pork Chop, Bacon, Sausage, Cowboy Potatoes, Bread w/ Salsa.....We got Omelet ( egg was runny), "uncooked" bacon and Sausage (NO JOKE, Sausage was literally raw) NO PORK CHOP....No Cowboy Potatoes, got French Fries?? Bread must have been left from night before, dry stale horrible!! Salsa is "different", we didn't care for it! And I had to get up and get my own coffee.....Not a good experience. :( read more

I was very pleasantly surprised with this dinner after reading the poor reviews. The food was great. No it is not the old Noriegas. You cannot replace Bernadette and Linds but the service was great. The food was good. I would suggest going back to Pyrenees bread and putting the soup on the metal bowl so it stays warmer but my family had a great time and we will be returning! read more

Came down from the Bay Area for the Basque festival in Bakersfield. I have always heard so much about Noriega's. I was disappointed to hear that it had closed. BUT Wait! I then heard a new owner opened up keeping the same cook so I booked an on line reservation for 8pm. Unfortunately there is a glitch on their online reservations,so just call and make a reservation. Unfortunately there wasn't an 8:00 seating that night but Ken the owner, great guy, did us right and gave us a gift certificate for future use. We decided to try their breakfast.... Come hungry. We had eggs, sausages , bacon and pork chops, French fries, cheese too. It was really great..... Shout out to Shaylinn or was it Shylinn you are super sweet and fun server. P.S. We met a women at the dog park who has lived in Bakersfield all of her life and she said that Noriega's is definitely one of her favorite Basque restaurants. Next time I'm in Bakersfield I will definitely come here for dinner and book for the 6:00 seating. read more

Love the new building, the food is still incredible! The prices are way too high for many of my friends, but if moneys not an issue, I highly this place! read more

I had lunch there yesterday with great anticipation. Unfortunately, they missed the boat on all levels. There is no ambiance just a long table, no menus, no info especially cost of lunch. There were no choices just food brought out . The bread was dry @ stale, the basque soup was just flavorless, the beans undercooked, salad limp & too much vinegar. The meat was a brisket ( I don't eat meat, no choice of chicken), my friend said it was different? The fries ( soft & greasy) were served with a rice dish?? Overall, it was terrible. The cost $25.00 per person. Once was enough! read more

Doing a great job continuing the legacy that is Noriega's Basque food. Set menu times with set meals served in courses. A drive here saves you a flight to northern Spain. read more

Great value! You will definitely not finish all the menu. The pork chops were great. Great family food overall

The food was 5 stars, as good as the original Noriega's. We went on Wednesday night and the entrees were lamb stew and prime rib. The service was great, too. So why the four star rating? My reservation was lost, but we did get seated. The person who took my reservation did not tell me what time dinner was being served, I had to ask if it was at 6pm. I knew weekend seatings were 6 & 8pm, and there was no 8pm serving on Wednesday from a previous call, but that was no guarantee that weekday seatings would be at 6pm. Also, their social media needs to be improved. I didn't find a menu posted and, if you didn't already understand about the family seating you probably won't understand it from anything online. read more

Went for food the other night and got great service from Rileigh, will definitely be back again!!

First time trying Noriega's at the new location and under the new owners, overall I was impressed. The bar waiting area which is a nod to the original location in Old Kern, It's nice, a bit too bright for me, but roomy since the practice is to have everyone wait in the bar area prior to the dinner seating. They still serve dinner as family style, which I enjoy. The food was good, it's the traditional basque farmers food that's been a staple in Bakersfield and the central valley for over a century. This isn't fancy french basque, so if that's what you are expecting, you'll be best served to go out of town to a restaurant that probably has zero basque lineage or history behind it. The courses are plentiful, and while other reviews complained that the portions were low, our party of 12 didn't notice any issues with that at all. The order was slightly different than what you may find at some of the other basque places but overall, it didn't throw anything off. The entrees for friday night were Beef stew and Roast Lamb, both were superb, I wish I had gone on a thurday or saturday for the garlic fried chicken. Service was great and attentive. It was also nice to know that they have kept the tradition of serving traditional basque family style breakfasts on saturdays. read more

This is a good choice for great basque food, I like how the staff is attentive and caters to your needs. My experience was nothing but good, great drinks good food and tons of fun. I got so much of everything that I had to stop for a bit because I was so full. Happy that we have a new basque restaurant that lives to the hype. Would recommend this place to all my friends and to those looking for great basque food. I liked the pickles tongue, spaghetti, Chile verde, soup, salad and the bread with cottage cheese. read more
