When I got my dog, Princeton a year ago, I was looking for a place that has a low-cost vaccinations and at the same time, the staff are caring for my dog. I always thought that SPCAs are usually for adoptions, until a coworker informed me that Norfolk SPCA have walk-in clinics for vaccinations. While other SPCAs have salary restrictions for the animal parents, Norfolk SPCA will treat anyone no matter where their animal parents live or makes. Today, we went to SPCA for Princeton's annual rabies shot and to get more of his heartworm medication. Going to this SPCA, you will notice that the parking lot is not cemented. There's only a few parking spaces in front of the clinic, however you can park at the side and the back of the clinic. The clinic is clean however, you will notice the animal smell. It usually doesn't bother me, but for some it might. The clinic is not packed today like the other times when we come in. We usually come in around 10am, but today, we came in at 1:30 pm. They were not using the number ticket system today and pretty much call everyone on a "first come, first serve basis." When you come in, you have to fill out the form first and check in at the reception. Once you're done checking in, we can just wait for Princeton's turn. Once Princeton was called, he was pretty much in and out within less than 5 minutes. He had a check-up (which is mandatory for $5) and rabies shot. The waiting time for us to pay for the service and the medication are the ones that they take a little bit longer. The staff who helped us (I forgot to ask her name) is pleasant and are willing to answer all my questions. Overall, our visit took less than 30 minutes, which is great since we usually spend an hour or more. If you are looking for a low-cost vaccinations, Norfolk SPCA is the best place for your furry friends. The vets and staff are friendly and helpful. They are knowledgeable. I just hope that the clinic is bigger and has a bigger waiting room. We will definitely be back for my dog's follow-up vaccinations next month.

5 mins after they open I arrive and see this???

I've been here once before and service was average at best. But today's visit was absolutely mind blowing. Their vaccine clinic is walk in only. During covid the only thing they changed was that they no longe Riley people come inside. For those who don't know, this place has zero parking on a normal day! However, now they have pet parent stay in the car . Needless to say , the line was wrapped around the building. That being said I arrived right at opening time and there was already a " Vaccine Clinic Closed" sign at the beginning of the street. I called as I had driven from Hampton to this location. They lady confirmed that because the line was wrapped around the building they were no longer accepting patients. Ridiculous! 5 mins after opening ?? They told me to call back around 11 a to see if they were accepting patients then. Unacceptable!! If they cannot accommodate the way they do things now then they need to start accepting appointments. I have to pay $50 more to go to Care-A-Lot Clinic. Not a huge deal but people generally use the SPCA because they are strapped for cash. A huge inconvenience.

Very nice staff and reasonable pricing for neutering . They go the extra mile. Got a tag for rabies vaccine, got feline leukemia vaccine, distemper etc and whole thing was 45 for deposit and 104 in pickup which included his pain medicine and a cone shaped collar

This is a review of the clinic services as well as intake. The clinic services and prices they charge is a really wonderful service they provide for pet owners in Hampton Roads. My Daughter is in extremely limited income from SS disability which honestly is not enough to live on. Being on a limited income should not be a reason to prevent them from being a dog owner. My daughter is Autistic and owner a dog has taught her so much; responsibility, structure and gets her out of her apartment to walk her dog. Not only is she getting the needed exercise but it helps her socially to meet neighbors and other dogs. It's the best medicine for her. The clinic enabled her to be able to get her dog needed vaccinations she could afford. Unfortunately her dog got pregnant, had a liter of puppies which she was unable to care for in a one bedroom apartment once momma dog stop nursing. It was heartbreaking to her but she knew the best course of action was to take the pups to the Norfolk SPCA. She felt guilty and was very upset over the ordeal, the staff there were very kind to her and helped to plan for momma dog to get spayed. They are kind, caring, compassionate and provide such a great and needed service. It may feel thankless at times but I hope they are aware of what they have enabled my Daughter to do. I'm so great full to them, it's such s joy to watch my daughter's expression of love for her dog.

    Tired after their puppy shots.

I have no idea how I haven't reviewed NACC yet, so in honor of our dawg's Gotcha Day coming up,…read morehere I am! The staff and volunteers absolutely do a fantastic job here, and the animals receive attention and love while they wait for their forever home. I followed them on Facebook for a while, watching longingly as adorable photo/bio combinations popped up in my feed, sometimes showing the Husband pups who were particularly sweet-sounding. It's all about breaking the resistance down slowly over time. Drip effect, folks. They've been indoctrinated without even realizing it and suddenly the whole family is in the car on their way to see a sweet Husky girl. Who of course is already adopted when you get there. And of course your son falls in love with a handsome pit bull who OF COURSE you take home instead. This is the cheapest animal I've ever adopted, and he came neutered, microchipped, tagged, vaccinated, and checked for food and toy aggression. Moreover, he's been the best friend for our son for a year now. Maybe they could have warned us that he's a bed hog, though!

I was told I was the third applicant and that I would be contacted if the first 2 applicants were no longer interested. I received an email that the cat was available and asked me if I was still interested. I sent 4 emails and left 1 voice message the same day. 2 days later I sent a fifth email and received a short reply that the cat was given to someone else. Should you apply for a cat or dog, sure, but expect the shelter to play some games with you. I was a longtime foster with NACC and have donated for years. I'll be taking my business elsewhere since they can't be decent enough to respect my time.

Hope for life Rescue - The rude messages that were sent via Facebook messenger. Needless to say our families hearts are shattered.

My husband & I have adopted two cats & a pup for HFL in the last year, but unfortunately we will…read morenever go back. Not because I think they're cruel to the animals but because i literally never have a pleasant experience. last week was our first puppy experience & was a tad stressful. I know I overthink pretty much everything when it comes to our fur babies but HFL was extremely unresponsive about any questions I emailed/texted prior to adoption when we had her as a quarantine and honestly, this experience with them sucked. The last few days prior to adoption I just didn't reach out at all because they didn't answer me ever.. Took me like four days to even find out if she was on heartworm preventative (i literally emailed/texted 20 times or something crazy about little different things like bumps on her ears, shots.. without any type of acknowledgment).. i know these things could be nothing but just a " hey that seems fine" or " those bumps are new keep an eye on them and let us know " or " how is she doing" super frustrating. I acknowledge, respect and appreciate what they do at HFL & I know they're a small shelter.. just think there is a disconnect amongst staff concerning foster/adopters & organization/communication. My experience was topped off by some of the staff members that are consistently unpleasant. I've had very few experiences where I actually walk away and think "what an enjoyable visit". When I went in to sign foster paperwork, one of their staff members raised her voice at an adopter about a shot. Wasn't necessary the adopter was asking questions not arguing. There was some sort of disconnected~aka information not relayed till day of adoption. I just think some of them need a reminder that you can talk to people calmly & respectfully. Not every adopter is looking to argue with you or call you/the shelter incompetent. I commend any facility that aims to protect/save animals. It's brave and beautiful.. However, the adoption day of our pup was ruined because someone made us feel significantly uncomfortable. A staff member, Nicole, went to give our puppy a shot & was pretty aggressive w/ my husband. Very big ego when he gave her literally no logical explanation to get triggered. Flip a coin on what the reason was either she's had one to many negative experiences with people being rude to her & got defensive OR she truly was deeply offended and took my husbands asking if a table was clean as a personal attack on her character/the shelter. Pretty much ruined the adoption experience for us tho. We followed the shelter on social media and we noticed that one of their dogs had parvo the day prior and since our puppy isn't fully vaccinated we originally didn't even want to bring her in but she was due for a shot and we wanted her protected as soon as possible, so we took her in a stroller. Even if we did not see the shelter had a Parvo case, we would still be overly cautious about our 3 month old PUPPY whom is at risk.. . My husband thought she'd get her shot in her stroller but she said no for that (w/a attitude btw) but also fine she wouldn't do it, we weren't about to fight over it. Then my husband said " Oh okay, is everything wiped down back there " in a very calm tone.. just being a scared/worried dog owner. She SNAPS at him and goes " don't talk to me like that I do this for a living" ... big attitude & tone shift... talk to you like what?? asking if our unvaccinated pup will be in a clean/safe environment? sorry but shouldn't you be happy that we care so much about our puppy to even ask? He wasn't deeming you/the shelter incapable.. he was just worried for our dog. He not once gave you an attitude. There are a few staff members who need a professionalism & customer service course ASAP because they are reactive & scaring good people off. I cannot stand unjustified mean/nasty behavior. There is literally zero place when it's okay to talk to another human poorly unprovoked.. just kinda ruined my adoption experience & made me super sad. Her coworker, Tracy, the one who was actually helping us complete the adoption was incredible. She is extremely sweet & kind. When Nicole was snappy with my husband, she stepped in and informed us that everything was cleaned before/after an animal is cared for. And that the shelter cleanliness very seriously. So thank you to her for calming our worries and understanding we were just scared!! The same goes for Noriko & Courtney. Both always extremely kind with a warm disposition whenever we go in.
