Upon arrival, I was pleased with the outward appearance and general lobby. The exterior is clean, simple, and large windows showcasing a dining area, so I knew food was an option. As you walk in through the automatic double sliding doors, the desk is to your right, entry to the dining is straight ahead, and a glass elevator sits center to a winding staircase. The entry also holds several brochures and local attractions and events you can grab as you enter/exit. Check in is very simple and quick and I was on my way to my room in a few minutes. As I walked to the stairs I noticed a coffee board, always available. Bonus!! (Sidenote: as I was checking out, I made myself a cup and they were out of sugar and cream. Gasp! However, they keep both behind the desk and someone is always there, willing to hand out more as needed). Granted, I have worked in and managed hotels, so my degree of picky is above and beyond, while I have also taken care of guests with expectations that are ridiculous enough to tell them to stay home and not in my hotel. Take what I say with a grain of salt because I was simply in my room to sleep and maybe relax before sleeping; I didn't spend much time here. I traveled with a coworker, so we both checked our rooms against one another. My room, upon arrival, I noted it was badly damaged, both interior/exterior sides of the door and had been screwed back together. Looked odd, but it's a solid door, so I had no cause for safety, it just looks really bad. Can't imagine why it hasn't been fixed. The room itself is very simple and clean, just as is the rest of the building. There is a large white cabinet for hanging clothes, including shelving for folded items and shoes, etc. This also holds a coffee maker and accessories. Sold! A desk and tv is also in the room with plenty of channels, as long as you can speak German, you're awesome! There is no language button or subtitles, so if you can be content with Magnum's moustache and short shorts, you need nothing else. CNN and MSNBC are featured in Britain, so there are options if you want to keep up on world news. The bed is 2 twins pushed together, with separate sheets, pillows, and down comforters. Ha! I laugh as I write this because the comforters are large enough for me if I lay straight. If a 300# person needs to stretch out, you're going to need to layer! The pillows are large squares, also down, and no amount of folding will give you any support, so ball up those comforters or sit up against the headboard. The beds themselves are very comfortable and I was never cold. I did sleep with my windows open; I love the fresh air, the night sounds, and the German windows are amazing the way they open. Again, never cold. The water in the bathroom is hot, but the bathroom needs some serious work. I have lived with showers for 2 years and need a bath every now and again. The tubs are European soaker types, so I'm sold either way. However, the grout was nasty and needs removed and regrouted. It looks like its been moldy and painted white. Around the fixtures is moldy and brown, needs deep cleaned. The shower head leaks while filling the tub, so eventually, the sides of the tub are going to yellow from the run off. The soap and shampoo smells fragrant, so I enjoyed my bubbles and I had to keep an eye on the water, because as previously stated, the temperature is high, so don't burn yourself. Excellent for a good, steamy soak, though. My light needs replaced bc by the 3rd day, it was like a bad horror movie, light flickering on/off, trying to illuminate. Took a minute or two, but there is a makeup mirror and hair dryer available, so I was able to do all I needed to. Towels are refreshed and beds made daily, even if I didn't need fresh towels, they always reappeared. Free internet is available, but it's spotty. I was never able to hook up my phone, but my laptop did. I was able to do what I needed to, but it was a pain to get started.
All in all, it wasn't a terrible stay. Everyone was friendly and like I said, I wasn't in my room much. I would stay here again, but it would depend on the price I received. The location is nice, around the corner from a bus terminal, so you can get anywhere. Parking can be a pain bc the lot is a shoebox for 6 cars. You can park along the street as you find, or there is also an underground garage. He told us 6E/nt, but the sign says 10. IDK??? read more
