bottles of whiskey on a table

So authentic in here, and super cozy. I got to experience many of their light bites and highly recommend getting the fried mushrooms. Very good ambience and enjoyed the hosting of contiki and tourism Ireland. Great location, check them out if your in the area. Enjoyed the whiskey tasting as well!

a plate of food on a table

Came in for a couple beers before a show at Danforth Music Hall. Service was decent, sat in the snug to catch up with an old buddy. My friend ordered the burger and liked it a lot, I ordered the onion rings and was presented with a plate of barely battered, greasy slices of onion that were less than appealing, to say the least. In a word: gross. Sorry to say I won't be stopping in again.

Patrick Ourceau session

Most authentic irish pub in downtown toronto. A cracking pint of Guinness. Hushed, old-school feel, decked out in mostly wooden furniture. Best part: live music and traditional irish sessions. The best irish musicians in toronto can be found playing together here on Thursday nights and Saturday afternoons. You might not realize what a treat this is, but for those of you who understand the fantabulousness, joyousness and good fortune of this, belly up to the bar at these times and enjoy music and an environment that will take you back to some of the most coveted sessions in the Emerald Isle.

They all just sit around and play while you sit back and have one of the best pints of Guinness that Toronto has to offer.

Thankfully, my girlfriend was able to take it back from her as the girl was about to leave the bar. However, a drunk guy that appeared to be with her, followed my girlfriend back into the bar, tried to get the coat back and then started an actually fist fight with her. They both fell to the ground before people jumped in and pulled him off of her. Neither security nor any staff of the bar asked to find out what happened or if she was ok. Then security grabbed her drink and told me we had to leave. I had simply been a bystander in all of this as I did not know what was happening until after it had happened. Security then grabbed my drink and wrestled it out of my hand and then manhandled me out of the bar. Despite asking if I could just get my coat, they refused and threw me out into the cold. My girlfriend luckily was still inside and grabbed my coat. I took photos of the security people and when we got home we called the police and filed a report of assault against the guy for hitting my girlfriend and the security for assaulting me. We had each paid $20 to get in about an hour prior to that and paid for our drinks that we were not allowed to finish. Neither of us was drunk nor did either of us start any altercation, yet we were told to leave, I was thrown out and to my knowledge, the person that started the fight was not. There was much fault to go around from the girl that tried to steal the coat, to the guy that assaulted my girlfriend, to the bar that over-served him, to the security thugs that victimized a neutral party and both the bar and security that failed to protect a woman who was the victim of assault and an attempted theft of her coat.

The room carries the warmth of a well-worn local: intimate, convivial, and wholly without affectation. The kitchen turns out pub classics with commendable care. The wings arrive properly executed -- crisp of skin, generously portioned, and satisfying in the way that only a good pub wing can be. The poutine, a nod to its Canadian setting, holds its own alongside the more traditional offerings. Most notably, the house curry gravy -- offered as an accompaniment -- proves to be a genuine revelation: bright, tangy, and layered with spice in a manner that elevates what might otherwise be a familiar dish into something worth seeking out. While the traditionalist in me remains loyal to the classic cheese curd and plain gravy combination, the curry variant is an adventurous alternative I would wholeheartedly recommend to the curious diner. The draft selection is solid, the Guinness pulled with proper patience, and the service strikes that ideal pub balance of attentive without being overbearing. For those seeking an honest, soulful dining experience rooted in neighbourhood warmth rather than culinary theatre, The Roy delivers with quiet confidence.

It was good and hit the spot considering it was cold and snowy outside.
