What a great find in a town with few interesting and delicious restaurants. If you haven't had…read moreVietnamese food I encourage you to let these friendly and helpful people introduce you to it. I come from an area with many Vietnamese restaurants and have had the good fortune to try many dishes. The food here is equal to any I've had. We had the fried rice with chicken and the Bo Kho, Vietnamese beef stew. Both were flavorful and delicious. The inside is cozy and attractive. The staff are super friendly and helpful especially if you're a newcomer to the food. This place is a real gem. They have a full bar and traditional nonalcoholic drinks.

Unfortunately there was only one server for the immense dining space, and it was difficult to get service. Even though we arrived early in the dinner hour and it was not busy at all. After a while, one other table of two was seated near us. Food was hit and miss. Coming from the Greater Toronto Area, and specifically Mississauga, where we have a wealth of Vietnamese restaurants, this spot was a bit lacking. But for the Soo, my friend and I were still happy to get some Asian food. We ordered: Bún Bò Soo - aptly named so you don't expect a Bún Bò Hue. It's their own take on the classic with: Slightly spicy, salty, sweet, umami red broth served with ribeye beef, vermicelli, veggies, and homemade Vietnamese Ham. This actually hit the spot! Cánh Gà (GF Chicken Wings} - Ten fried wings sauced with their sweet and savoury house sauce, garnished with sweet pickled veggies. The flavour was good! But unfortunately the wings were super tiny and very dry. Gỏi Xoài (Mango Salad GF) - Sliced mangoes, cabbage, pickled carrots, cilantro, pickled sweet onions, peanuts, and shrimp chips. This was my favourite dish! Very refreshing. And satisfying textures.

The inside of the restaurant is very old and features worn out cushions in the booths and isn't ideal for dine in, so take out is really the only option here. Today, we decided to treat ourselves and get lunch here and I ordered house special with chow mein noodles that was supposed to have noodles, veggies, pork, beef, chicken and shrimp. Instead, I received a box of 75% cabbage in a watery brown liquid with some real funky looking chicken and shrimp that was cold served with gummy, wet rice. I called the store to ask if they could make it right, and she told me absolutely not and it's my fault and nothing would be done to correct the issue. We decided to try it despite the fact it was terribly incorrect, and it was the nastiest food I've ever had from there. Completely devoid of any flavor, everything was cold and mushy or undercooked entirely, and was honestly really disgusting even when trying to have an open mind about it. This was a terrible way to treat regulars to a business and is absolutely the last time I give them any money or support. I'd recommend going to IndoChina or across the border if you want people that actually care about operating a business.

To be fair didn't have any expectation, food turned out decent and priced affordably (no more than a combo meal at any fast food). We ordered 3 dishes for a family of four and it was plenty enough. Chicken curry has nice flavor and good kick (it's not mild), seasame chicken was fried well and stir fried flavorably, and the shrimp lo mein tasted good! Oh - except for the chicken the others were dinner specials so they also came with an egg roll. Fried rice is done well, not too dark or salty like other places with an overdose of dark soy. So if you are in the Soo, give it a try. Not far from downtown.
