At first glance I thought this rather plain looking cafeteria-stye eatery near the bus-station in…read morethe Myer centre was probably just another one of those Asian greasy spoons where you can fill a takeaway container with fried rice, sweet and sour everything, beef and black bean etc. But then I realised their bain marie housed some really interesting and authentic looking Yum Cha style delicacies and of course, there's the titular Shanghainese noodles. They also do the popular bubble tea and a range of frappes, but when I visited the selection was a bit limited as they were out of quite a few of the flavoured syrups. The two ladies who served me (I got the impression the older one was the mother and the younger one her daughter) were very apologetic and lovely about the whole thing. In the end I settled on the 'peppermint black tea' with 'pearl jelly'. I also picked up a snack, one of their intriguing 'tea leaf eggs', which as the lady described is an egg hard-boiled in tea. While the effect of the tea infusion could be seen in the egg's discolouration, I'm not sure if I could identify the tea flavour on a blind taste. It was yummy though. I'd love to go back and try the noodles and some of their other bain marie treats like their dumplings, whole grilled fish, red bean buns and maybe even chicken feet if I'm feeling adventurous.

It can be a little tricky to find if you're not specifically looking for it or you're catching a 130, but when you do find it you will be rewarded. They have yum cha stuff in the bain maries including various types of steamed buns and they're the biggest BBQ porn buns I've ever had! They also serve noodles, and meal sets including roast duck or pork. As per habbit when at Chinese eateries, I ordered the roast duck meal set and a pork bun. To be honest, I would've been satisfied with just the pork bun it was that big, but it was good to try more stuff. The roast duck came with succulent duck, a huge bowl of rice, steamed vegetables and a bowl of soup for around $13, the duck was so god damn good, saucy and tender and the meal was excellent value. They shop is extremely authentic and it shows in their customer base; only white guy in the entire dining room ;-). If you're on the ground floor of the myer centre and are going to settle for KFC or McDonald's, walk straight past them and head over for an awesome feed that will fill you up. Ps. Unlike a lot of the sushi joins in the city being run by Koreans, this place is Chinese run by Chinese

I had the roast duck with noodles, which I actually enjoyed, other than the fact that it was a bit salty. The duck, though there wasn't that much meat, the skin was surprisingly crispy. I really enjoyed the duck, despite the soup base being salty. The noodles were just ok, but I did like that the noodles came with a generous portion of bok choi. I also tried the fried tofu, which was freshly fried, though it is more of an appetizer than a main meal. When we were there, two birthdays were being celebrated, so they played this cheesy soundtrack of children singing "Happy Birthday," - which, if you want to embarrass your birthday friend, this is it! It became a little obnoxious, but the friendly service made up for it.

Superbowl is without a doubt one of the friendliest, least pretentious and most casual restaurants in Fortitude Valley, plus, the food is great! Some of my favourite options on the menu are the curry puffs, salt and pepper eggplant, shredded peking beef, and tom yum chicken hot pot. If you or a friend are celebrating a birthday, whisper in your attendant's ear as you arrive for the full Superbowl experience. In the many times I've eaten there, my experience at Superbowl has been overwhelmingly positive. If noisy restaurants or slightly intoxicated patrons offend you, best steer clear, but if you have a group of friends and a few bottles of wine in tow, it's the perfect place to visit.

I really enjoyed my watermelon cocktail before our food arrived. Be sure to get some of the starters ("street chow" on the menu) and share them around the table. That's really the best way to experience this place. I think my favorite was the pork bao! Fortunately for me, my dinner companion was all about sharing so I got the last one in the whole restaurant. I guess they're THAT popular! The nasi goreng (Indonesian fried rice) was amazing, and we shared that too. We left completely satisfied! The open air seating is really nice, and the service was pretty good too. You go up to the cashier to pay, and they are nice about splitting the bill which is what we did.

We went here at the recommendation of both a colleague and good friends (now vague acquaintances ;), but we walked away disappointed and $120 lighter (food + bottle of Shiraz). Apart from the so-so food our server didn't know the menu well and had no info on the wine other than "yes, that's a popular one". The confit duck spring rolls were unexpectedly large, but the duck was bland and the spring roll dough very dry. We cannot recommend this. The first of our mains was the lamb curry. The meat was nice and tender, but the curry was entirely unmemorable. The salad was a very simple collection of green leaves. Our other main was the pork belly, which had nice greens and sauce, albeit a bit on the sweet side. The meat was not tender and soft as it should be and the skin was really unreasonably hard. All in all, poor value for money. We will not be back here any time soon as you can get much higher quality food for near identical prices in other restaurants.

Don't be put off by the fishy smell - there is a fish monger at the back of the store where you can get fresh seafood - I have never had a bad experience buying my seafood here. They sell a variety of seafood including fresh fish, live mud crabs, mussels, prawns and squid. You can buy the fish whole or pre-cut, if you do buy a whole fish you can ask them to fillet and skin it while you wait. You can pick up bunches of fresh vegetables here for $1-$2 and there are so many choices of ramen noodles, some starting from as little as 24c (just make sure you add some veggies to your noodles to add some nutritional value). When I was living on Struggle Street during my trainee days I could do my entire weeks shop here for $30 or less! I still shop here at least once a month - it is a great place to pick up exotic ingredients and affordable seafood.

The only thing I wish they would stock is Fresh Galangal. The seafood is always cold and fresh looking, their spice range is great and their selection of fresh noodles, wrappers and tofu is awesome. I love the variety they have on offer. Although it can get quite busy, I have found the staff to be happy and helpful, and then if you can't find something there is always someone willing to point you in the right direction.
