My partner had the seafood laksa and loved it. We also had veggie spring rolls and they were good, with a really tasty dipping sauce. The place was PACKED for lunch, but there was some seating free at the back. Service was incredibly friendly and helpful even though it was so busy. Portion sizes are massive and it's so cheap for the volume of food (the vegan laksa is $10.80 and the bowl is massive). Delicious. You can see why this place is so highly-recommended.

They also have dim sims and extra sauces like spicy and sweet chili for sale if you so desire. I know we are pretty spoilt here in Melbourne for Asian cuisine so I won't lie, there is better out there, but at the same time for fast and convenient food that's tasty, you can't go wrong with this place. Compared to To Go Noodle and Sushi down the road, this place edges it out for the local take out noodle place. You can also eat in and take away.

If you like chilli, make sure you really press then about making it hot, as they do have a tendency to deliver that particular condiment in stingy amounts. Or perhaps the people of Hawthorn East just don't have a taste for burning? Among the many Asian joints in and around the Junction, this one is probably not the place you get your dinner date at home food from, but it is worth trying. The meals are equally impressive, with all of the Japanese classics to choose between. There's a range of ramen combos, as well as curries and katzu. Better yet, all meals that come to $7.90 (which is pretty much all of them) arrive with a free can of soft drink. So that's a drink and meal for under $10. Great cheap Japanese that's made to order. The little shop's location on Glenhuntly Road makes it a hit with residents in the Carnegie/ Caulfield area and is also a hit with students living around here too. Meaning: cheap and good! Which is what you really want from a take-out food joint after all! If you're unfamiliar with Indonesian food, try the Beef Rendang (Spicy beef stew), fried eggplant, ikan bilis (anchovies and peanuts) and chicken curry. Expect to pay about $8 per head depending on what you order. But you basically can't go wrong with the combination specified. The owner is normally at the store (which doesn't do the food justice) and is very friendly and offers recommendations when you haven't a clue or can't decide what to get. All in all, the home-cooked, flavourful goodness and affordability will knock your socks off.

This place is hands down brilliant for a quick, cheap tasty meal…read more We ate the rendang, a green vegetable curry and a jackfruit curry all served with a freshly pounded sambal. The rendang was delicious- huge chunks of slow cooked, falling apart as you lifted it off the plate. The dark brown coconut gravy was perfectly spiced- creamy and savory. The vegetable curries were tasty and perfectly cooked- no overcooked veg. Jackfruit curries are unusual here and it took me right back to Southeast Asia. The stand out star of the meal was the sambal- pounded chilli, lemongrass, belacan and sugar was beyond delicous- I could have just eaten sambal and rice. The decor isn't amazing, but for the price and quality of the food I will not hesitate to recommend to everyone!

I came here with a friend, excited to get some spring rolls (fried and fresh), and I also decided…read moreto get Pho, which doesn't happen but once in a blue moon since I'm not a big fan of eating pasta or noodles much. The restaurant wasn't busy at all, except for one of the staff members, who was eating and taking a break, and later a couple walked in to eat. The staff was quiet, yet friendly enough, and they were prompt to serve us. The fried spring rolls were good, as were the fresh spring rolls, but they weren't anything spectacular. I certainly wouldn't send them away if I was offered them. I got the spicy beef pho, and I was painfully disappointed, as there was absolutely no flavor to this whatsoever, though it was a hearty bowl. My friend got a chicken pho and seemed to enjoy it, but when she tried mine, she agreed that it was extremely bland, from the broth to the meat. I noticed that it looked like they used a mixture of chicken and beef, rather than just beef as well, unless I was unaware that beef can turn white in color when cooked. I have trained in culinary school though, so I'm pretty sure I can tell chicken from beef. Overall, while some things were good, it is hard for me to rate this as anything but average since the things I liked were average, while the Pho was not something I enjoyed at all. It was disappointing, but still not horrible, and perhaps my dish was just an off dish for them.

I've been testing my theory for a while now and have noticed that the more smiles and better customer service you get, the less authentic and tasty the Pho. Pho Dzung continues my belief because the service is basic, at best, but the Pho is damn good. There's chicken all sorts of beef cuts you can order (go for the brisket) and you can have it in a small ($8), medium ($9) or large ($10) serve which basically translates in to Big, Gigantic and Dear God I Hope You're Hungry. There's all manner of sauces, cutlery, napkins and tea flasks ready and waiting and once you order a plate of fresh herbs, lemon wedges and beanshoots will be unceremoniously plonked on your table without a smile. Wait a few minutes and out will come the steaming bowl of Pho. It won't be served with a smile, or barely any eye contact. But trust me it will be damn good and you won't care a bit that you haven't been fawned all over by the staff.

It's hard to compete against Pancake Dessert House, which is located just opposite Laksa House in this little arcade. Dessert house is noticeable busier, offers more dishes and is relatively cheaper. However, I wouldn't have a problem with coming to Laksa House again, but probably only has a backup.
