Having said that, there is no one on this planet with whom I would entrust the thankless task of pleasing me more than the lovely, talented, and consummately professional MISTY STEVENS, now holding court at Mr. Rogers Hairstyling in Old Town Camarillo...she "gets" it....patient, delicate, and creative, but interested PRIMARILY in catering to me the client rather than servicing her own artistic whims. I walk in looking shaggy and walk out confident every time. The economical time spent with her is always entertaining, and the salon's ambience clean, homespun, lighthearted, and never intimidating. I've had my share of the showy so-called "glamor" parlors, and this one is such a welcome change from the overpriced "all glitz no substance" spots I've tried in my global travels over the years. From what I have seen, all the stylists (pictured below, Misty seen front and center) have fiercely faithful followings, from young cosmo types to stylishly mature elders, so I would confidently wager you could not go wrong booking a date with any of them! Kia is a Vivid Hair Specialist who has transformed my hair from its natural brown to teal, then pink with extensions, and now purple with a silver money piece! She's super sweet, and she's always been very realistic with me about what kind of maintenance certain colors or cuts need. (Despite how it may seem, I like low maintenance even though I still want fun colors.) For the time and service she provides, her rates are very reasonable. I've looked forward to every visit with her, and I feel like my self-confidence has grown not just because of my beautiful hair but also because of her positive and empowering outlook! Ariel is an amazing nail artist! I was never one to get my nails done regularly (low maintenance, like I wrote), but when I was getting my hair done, I'd see Kia's nails (always done by Ariel), and they were literally fantastic. So I gave it a whirl and got some fancy nails for a business trip. And then I asked for some fun nails for a wedding. The more I visited the salon, the more I enjoyed the ladies that worked there and the energy that I felt, and the more I wanted to come back. Now I come every 4 weeks for Ariel to do my nails. Each time I come with an idea or inspiration from Instagram, and Ariel makes magic. She's a true artist! I've never had her repeat a design in the nearly 2 years I've been going, and she's never once told me she wasn't capable of doing something I asked for. Even when I've arrived late (more often than I care to admit), she's been wonderfully kind and patient with me. Between these two wonderful ladies, I feel more beautiful and feminine than ever. I truly feel like they're my friends, and I'm so grateful to have found them and that I get to benefit from their expertise.

I was very clear with the receptionist about what I needed when I scheduled the appointment. I arrived a few minutes early and was told Emma was running half an hour late. When she finally came to fetch me she asked me what she could do for me. I told her. She said, "I don't cut short hair. My specialty is long hair." What kind of stylist can't cut short hair? She agreed to color it and tried to book me for the following week for a trim - with another stylist. I don't want to wait another week for a trim! The color she put on my hair was so dark it's almost black and does not match the color I already had. Guess I will have to start all over again from scratch. It's so very, very upsetting and disappointing.

Despite several text messages back and forth, the stylist seemed to misunderstand what I was asking for, even though I felt I had been very clear from the beginning. Rather than working with me to clarify the misunderstanding, the situation seemed to lead to frustration on the stylist's end, and she ultimately canceled my appointment at the last minute. I wasn't able to send an inspiration photo as quickly as she wanted because I'm a busy mom of two young kids, and I simply couldn't get to it right away. I completely understand the importance of being prepared for an appointment and ensuring expectations are clear. However, it was frustrating to have my appointment canceled over what felt like a misunderstanding that could have been resolved through better communication. The service I booked was clearly stated, and I don't feel it was fair for her misunderstanding to result in frustration directed toward me and the cancellation of my appointment. What makes this even more disappointing is the apparent double standard with cancellations. Clients are charged a fee for canceling within 48 hours, yet the salon can cancel on a client at the last minute without any apparent consequence. Our time is valuable, too. I made arrangements for my appointment, and as a mom of two young kids, coordinating time for myself isn't always easy. Having a business cancel on me last minute, especially over a misunderstanding that wasn't due to a lack of clarity on my part, was incredibly frustrating. As a potential new client, this experience left a bad impression. I value professionalism, patience, and respectful communication, and unfortunately, that wasn't how this situation was handled. I understand that not every appointment is the right fit, but I believe clients deserve the same consideration and respect that is expected of them. Unfortunately, this experience has left me hesitant to recommend or book with this salon.

One day, while getting coffee at Palm & Boy across the way, I noticed a charming salon. Curious, I stopped by and was greeted by a lovely receptionist who immediately connected me with Corey. I honestly felt like I hit the lottery! Corey is not only skilled but also incredibly kind and compassionate. It's rare to find such a perfect blend of professionalism and genuine care, and I'm so grateful to have found her at Matiz Salon. Before the haircut, my hair was uniformly about 4 inches in length. I wanted a style that retained the curls but made my hair more manageable. I went to the salon with a coarse idea of what I wanted: Curls on top, shorter on the side, and nothing too hip. I showed Faye a picture that had these style elements and gave her the freedom to use her creativity, because you can't force hair to do something it's not meant to do. Faye evaluated my hair type, recommended subtle changes to the style and went to work. She was patient and extremely adept in her hair-cutting process. A great sign was that she didn't need to re-evaluate my hair as she cut: she had a vision and accomplished it without hesitation. When her work was complete, the style was exactly what I hoped for. Extra details: There is plenty of parking in the parking lot in front of the salon. The salon is very accessible by the road. I drove down Saviors and turned right on Birch. Once on Birch you can patiently drive through the parking lot on the corner (Birch & Saviors) without battling the drag-racers on Saviors. The salon has a very relaxing atmosphere, is well-decorated, and has good music.

She is absolutely amazing. I booked with her through the salon's website and was able to schedule a consultation which I showed up to a day early on accident but she still was able to see me the day I came. I only had 2 inspo pics which were basically short hair with curtain bangs and my only special request was to thin the eff out of my hair which she did!
