Today was the first time I've ever been charged extra for a "curl/flat iron," even though my hair wasn't curled or flat ironed at all. The haircut itself was nice, but the blow-dry was honestly really bad--it looked like I tried to do it myself and failed. I didn't say anything in the salon, but when I got home, my friends pointed out how bad it looked, which made me realize I wasn't overreacting. Overall, I do like this salon, especially for walk-ins. If I had to rank the stylists I've been to: Madeline is definitely #1--she did an amazing job with both the cut and styling, and there were no random extra charges. Abel also did a great job with my highlights. Katie and Heather would be tied. They're both very nice, but Katie cut my hair noticeably uneven--I even had coworkers telling me not to go back to her, which is why I stopped coming to the salon for a while. Heather did a good job with the haircut itself, but the styling was not good. I wouldn't have minded as much since I planned to redo my hair at home anyway, but being charged extra for styling that didn't turn out well is frustrating. I was actually going to ask to skip the blow-dry, but she said she needed to dry it to see how it laid and refine the cut. If it had turned out good, I wouldn't have minded the upcharge--but paying extra for something that looked this bad is really disappointing. And the extra charge wasn't explained it almost seemed like she was trying to sneak it in as she whispered to the receptionist to help her add the charge. To my surprise when the total was $100??? for a haircut?!!! mind you she did a dry cut. no wash no blowout no styling. i asked for a trim and long curtain bangs. the over all haircut itself was quick. i didn't take much of her time. but for $100?? for a dry cut??? that blew my mind. and i still tipped

I truly did not want to write this review about my experience at The Color Bar on June 27, 2026…read more However, after a new stylist declined to schedule a second appointment following my disclosure of what happened, I felt it was only fair to share an honest account so prospective clients could make an informed decision. I will not publicly disclose the name of either stylist, but I am willing to provide that information if contacted directly. I was at The Color Bar for approximately six hours. The foils on the right side of my head seemed to be processing normally. However, after the stylist remixed the color and began applying it to the left side, the foils became extremely hot. The heat was burning my neck and scalp, and my hair itself was burning. I was terrified that my hair was going to burn off, so I began pulling out the foils myself. They were so hot that they burned my fingers as I removed them. Even the salon owner felt the excessive heat. I did not learn until after the incident that she was the owner, but she did not show any concern. The stylist at The Color Bar accused me of putting something in my hair that caused the burning. However, the only product I had used was a natural black-hair shampoo approximately two weeks earlier. I have never experienced anything like this--not even after using boxed hair dye. In an attempt to correct the color, the stylist applied a toner that left my hair looking essentially black. My hair is neither thin nor straight, so perhaps its texture was more challenging for her to work with. However, I trusted that she had the experience necessary to color my hair safely. My hair was severely damaged, my shirt was left with major bleach stains, and although I did request a discount due to the less than professional service, I was still charged and PAID HER $300. I have included pictures showing the bleach damage to my shirt from that appointment. Despite everything that happened, **I never became angry or raised my voice.** I showed the stylist considerable grace because her child had also been at the salon for several hours, and she shared that her husband had been deployed that day. In August, I visited a stylist at another salon, which I will not name in this review but it's at Hollywood Beach. During that appointment, I privately explained what had happened at The Color Bar and why my damaged hair required extra conditioning and care. When I later tried to schedule a second appointment, she declined to book me and said she had spoken to the other stylist - I didn't even provide her with a name, just an initial! (I could barely remember her name). **I cannot know exactly what was said between the two stylists, but I was shocked to be blamed for what happened**!! The fact that one side processed normally while the newly mixed color on the other side became dangerously hot speaks for itself. Clients should be able to trust that their hair will be treated safely. If something goes wrong, they also deserve honesty, accountability, and compassion. I hope this review encourages others to book with caution, research their stylist thoroughly, and ask questions before committing to a service. Regards, Ventura Resident

I had a good experience with Paige -- she was kind, listened to what I wanted, and gave me a great trim without cutting off too much. She also did a nice job styling my hair. However, the interaction with the woman checking us out left a bad impression. She made comments that came off as unprofessional and dismissive, particularly about pricing and scheduling. I was trying to book a future appointment for my mom and myself, but her tone made it seem like our business wasn't welcome. Despite that, I do plan to return because of the quality of the haircut and how well Paige listened to my preferences. I just hope future visits feel more welcoming overall. (: read more

Today was my first time at Ritual Studio & it was a great experience from beginning to end! Upon walking in, you're immediately greeted by Dewey at the desk who is so nice and has such a positive/great vibe. I got the best haircut by Jossilynn! She is super sweet and extremely knowledgeable about hair, styles, products, and was so helpful explaining the right cut for my hair type (I have fine hair & had EXTREMELY dead/damaged ends). I have been to Ritual Studio Salon quite a few times already and have always been very satisfied and love how my hair turns out. I leave there feeling like a million bucks! When she finally came to fetch me she asked me what she could do for me. I told her. She said, "I don't cut short hair. My specialty is long hair." What kind of stylist can't cut short hair? She agreed to color it and tried to book me for the following week for a trim - with another stylist. I don't want to wait another week for a trim! The color she put on my hair was so dark it's almost black and does not match the color I already had. Guess I will have to start all over again from scratch. It's so very, very upsetting and disappointing.

Every haircut Barbara has given me has been far better than any other cut I've received. Since my hair is quite fine and not especially abundant, even an average haircut is noticeable--so that's saying a lot. My first experience with highlights was thanks to Barbara, and the results were stunning. One person who saw them said, "If anyone could have the hair color of their dreams, this would be it." Barbara even shared the color formula she used. Some time later, I showed that formula to a stylist in France, and after looking at it she told me, "I can't do that." Barbara seems to notice details about my hair that other stylists miss. I sometimes wonder whether this comes, in part, from her background as a painter and artist. Whatever the reason, she has an exceptional eye and a remarkable understanding of her craft. If you're fortunate enough to get an appointment with Barbara, don't pass up the opportunity. I knew it wasn't going to be exactly what I wanted but I was expecting it to look pretty close. After I sat there for 5 hours I was so unhappy with my hair. I figured I would go home and maybe jst get used to it. After a day it looked extremely yellow and orange. I wrote gabby back and asked her if toning would help, she didn't even make an effort to try and fix it for me instead wanted to charge me for a simple toning, that could have made my hair look a little better. After one wash my hair is now completely orange and now I have to pay even more money to try and fix it. I'm embarrassed to even go outside with this ugly hair!!!! $135 down the drain
