Ciao Ciao is a great Italian restaurant next to the theatre in Bath…read more The menu was a great surprise of different Italian dishes with seasonal ingredients - beetroot and goat cheese tortellini, pan fried venison loin, butternut squash risotto - to name a few. A fabulous wine list completes the meal and they also have the option of a tasting menu if the a la carte menu has too much choice! We decided to share some pasta dishes rather than having a whole extra pasta course each and boy was I full! But it was totally worth it for the afore mentioned butternut squash and scallop risotto and beetroot goats cheese tortellini. Starters were a little more hit and miss with the calamari being joined by prawns and fish cakes - just more calamari would have satisfied my dad! The arancini was interesting with pâté and a quails egg in the middle, served with a Parmesan sauce it looked like a large scotch egg! For mains we stuck to red meat - the pan fried venison loin, the beef fillet and the special venison stew with polenta. These were washed down with a tannic Barolo - a magnum (we do drink a lot, but there were six of us!) - which went amazingly well with the venison. For dessert I requested a spoon - to help myself to everyone else's! Liz had the tiramisu - beautifully presented with flowers on top, and Simon & Sarah went for the chocolate and pear tart. This was more like a brownie with half pear pieces set in it. Coffee and some lovely and smooth ages grappa finished off the meal. We were also offered some complimentary homemade limoncello before we left. We enjoyed ourselves for this meal - the only negative was that the staff weren't so attentive - several times we had to wave to order or request more drinks or the bill, which should have been anticipated! But in general we were satisfied and those who live in the area will be back again!

We vacationed for 10 days in four different cities. Bath's Ciao Ciao was the best meal we had on…read morethe trip. Funny and friendly staff, gorgeous space, and, most importanly, amazing food and wine. My husband's choice to do the tasting menu meant we were there for hours. The staff kept bringing me surprise treats to keep me entertained as he worked through the courses. I don't know if all the desserts we ate were part of the tasting menu or just extras thrown in but each one we tried was better than the last. At the end of the evening the waiter even got out his phone to show us how to wander back to our hotel. They handle nearby theater traffic so it may be a good idea to book in advance.
