When you're desperate to get your hands on some Dirty Girl Gaiters before a trail run and find out that the closest vendor that carries them is down the street from where you're staying... it's like an answered prayer. Not sure if this is the only gear shop in the area, but this one is probably the best one. They have everything you need from wipes to guidebooks to climbing gear to backpacking food to rentals to my GAITERS. LOL. Small shop located right next to the JTNP visitor center in 29 Palms. Workers are extremely friendly and helpful. Forgot something? Need something last minute? Definitely check this place out.

Great climbing shop, they have everything you could every need and every some stuff you may never need (e.g. weird aid climbing gear). Fantastic selection of climbing guidebooks* for any rock you want to smear/jam/pull your way up. They also have a pretty complete selection of rock shoes. Great stop for the all-too-common: "I forgot my nut tool/chalk bag/harness!" *No pictures allowed of the guidebooks though, buy yer own, ya dirtbag!

I scored a pair of Joshua Tree wool socks and a camping spoon (I forgot mine). I enjoyed browsing and all the different types of equipment they offered. Check them out! They are right near the visitor center for the park.

Buyer beware. Staff isn't very knowledgeable about the gear they sell, and the store doesn't back the quality of their merchandise.

YELP SHORT ANSWER: a great visit, yes if you're out shopping for anything drop in this REI location…read moreand enjoy. LOCATION: simple to find off the 111 in PD and tons of parking usually with a lot of cars. Choose your time. FACILITY: as a long time member, 4 decades, this exterior is nothing special compared to other locations in the PNW but you get to work with what you have when it comes to picking buildings. The interior however is great. Open and easy to find everything. STAFF: as with most of all REI location, the staff are all helpful and knowledgeable about their products. Fern in the cycling department was so incredibly helpful and got my wheels serviced while we shopped for a tent on their Labour Day Sale. Can't say enough good things about our first trip to this new location, other than this was one of the best shopping experiences we've had in this area in a long time. OVERALL VALUE: it is not cheap, never has been but if you're looking for a deal, learn about their sales and how to best use your co-op dollars. REI provides excellent quality items, professional level advice, and a fair price. TIP: ask questions, shop in the store, online, or online at their outlet store. Items can be delivered to the store or to your home.

Rei is amazing So I…read morewent into this big and beautiful store to return a 28L bag that was too small for an overnight backpacking trip and wanted to look at the used section. What I ended up getting was far more than I expected. The return was seamless and enlightening. All of the employees are so fun, friendly and knowledgeable. I met one young woman who asked if I needed help finding anything. I was looking for packs in the used section but she explained they go quick. I meandered around the store and bumped into her again. I asked her where the packs are and she showed me a large range. Since I'm looking somewhere in the 40-55L range she said she would get someone to help me. Initially I declined having help but she also mentioned a fitting. I had never had a backpack fitting so I accepted the help. Alyssa was amazing!!! She measured my spine and from there helped me find a pack. I learned I have a short torso. Makes sense and my waist is close to my chest so now I was able to find a pack that would sit appropriately on my hips (ilac crest). She was a wealth of knowledge. It was a wonderful visit. I definitely recommend this store if you want to find good deals in store or if you want to buy online and pickup in store.

R to the E to the I! A sweet spot for all the things about outdoors for you and I. And would I lie?…read moreHere are some facts you can't deny! It's the largest consumer co-op in the U.S and members only pay a one time fee for a lifetime membership! How sweet can that be! Ok besides that, I was here for the coffee pour over packs. Yes they actually do carry that and these days with the prices of coffee going up why not stock up on a few boxes in case it gets worse! Other than that they carry top brand gear for almost all the outdoor needs. Plus! They have snowboard and bike service for a quick tune up for the weekend or weekday adventures. Service is really good and there's always someone roaming around. And that's my take, Peace
