Anyway Cosgraves and their offers, and I suppose my inner wish for thrift, made me cross that difficult line. Then I got 4 striploin steaks for a tenner and I was never going back! This butcher usually offers deals which are brilliant for families or those with big freezers, and they're not stingey with their cuts either. I did expect to get 4 tiny steaks for that price but they were a good size. I was impressed. As well as a great range of meats they also have some prepacked packets where things are in marinade ... and these come with instructions! Hooray! Lately Cosgraves have some amazing offers. 1 euro each for chicken fillets, pork chops and other unbelievably cheap offers. Cheaper than a German supermarket any day!

Full marks to the Market Butchers, they've won me over with steak!…read more The shop's location in far-flung Rathcoole's Greenogue Industrial Complex IS a bit of a hike, but for high quality cuts of beef, organic chickens, fresh pork and lamb it's hardly a sacrifice. Here you'll get flavorful melt-in-the-mouth 8oz fillet steaks, previously seen on a high-end restaurant plate, for just €7.45. Then there's the round mince (€6.45 per kg) and pork mince (2 kg for €9.95) that's the backbone of some seriously super chili. You'll get great craic along with it, the pros behind the counter here are warm, funny and friendly. On our last visit we ended up in a long conversation about the recent honeymoon of a newly married Market Butcher. If you can't make it to Rathcoole delivery service is available, but at €10 is geared towards large orders. In fact, order over €100 in their delicious delicious meats and home delivery (in Dublin) is free. Outside the country it only applies to orders over €150. Dr. Atkins, your time has come.

Overall though, it's not your typical Mac and cheese if that's what you're looking for.

We told them what we were looking for and they pointed us to Lidl straight away. We had a bit of a road trip planned over the course of the week and needed to stock up on snacks and breakfast items. Their store brand almonds were only $1.50 - that's less than you can find them anywhere at home. We were able to get fresh fruit and veggies along with our dried goods and a few freezer items all for under $30. That would have cost twice that at home for the same type of stuff.
