I admit that a friend and I stumbled upon Nok's while searching for Instagram worthy eateries in Edinburgh - but I'm so glad that the food matched the awesome vibes that we came for!
First off, the ambiance/decor inside Nok's is basically like an explosion of color and whimsy. Purple, forest green, pale yellow, and royal blue all come together to create this kaleidoscope of an interior.
There are also little knickknacks all over, like vines hanging from the balcony in the middle of the restaurant, and cute touches on the walls like colorful/fake taxidermy heads, images on what look like large brooches, and chandeliers/fringed dangling lamps that add interesting visual impact form top to bottom, everywhere you look.
So, the "Instagram worthy" tip about Nok's was absolutely correct. If you are going for just that, you can grab a tea or cocktail and just peruse around. But I'd be remiss if I didn't also talk about how good the food is!
For starters, my friend and I split two things. The Tom Yum Soup was very spicy and gave a good kick (opened up my sinuses on a cold Scottish evening). And the Chicken Satay was delicious, coming as two skewers of meat with a peanut sauce on top.
Entree-wise, we each picked something different so we could have bites of each others, but overall choose what looked best to us.
I had the Nok's Nutty Curry with ribeye steak. It was SO flavorful and delicious. The ribeye was cooked perfectly and melted in your mouth. Purple jasmine rice came on the side, and stirring it in with the curry sauce was absolutely delicious. I definitely recommend getting this one (with the steak as the protein!)
My friend got the Pad Thai, and even that was an interesting plating, with the noodles "baked" under the egg topping, and you sort of stir and break it up yourself. She loved it and the taste I had was delectable, so this is another dish that I'd highly recommend.
Aside from the awesome decor and food, the staff were excellent too, giving great recommendations, guiding us through the menu, and making sure our glasses were always full.
With excellent ambiance, amazing food and drinks, and great service - Nok's is definitely a place to stop by next time you're craving Indian or Thai! read more
