Note this review contains no spoilers. My coworkers and I did the Tesla/Edison room for a team building event. I have done 7-10 escape rooms and this one is easily one of the top. I got to see how my team works together and our strengths. This was my first team building events with these coworkers and we did amazing together. I have seen it all when it comes to escape rooms. Teams collapse and teams flourish. We were the latter! Story: 4/5: While the story and clues were interesting, I would have preferred the actual story within each clues to be a little more concise. Moderator: 4/5: When it comes to escape rooms the moderator heavily impacts the experience and/or success. Our moderator did a great job explaining the rules and providing hints. However, the reason why he gets 4/5 vs 5/5 is that 5/5 moderators have a bit more theatrics which makes the experience even greater. Overall, he did a solid job. Room design: 3.5/5: the room theme, decor, and construction was well thought out but the execution needs improvement. Upon entering room I was able to identify certain clues because certain things stood out. I have been in rooms that are so well constructed the only way you can find a clue is if you spend time carefully searching. Puzzles: 4.5/5: some places only have one style of solving puzzles. I like a escape the room where you get to solve a variety of puzzles using different modes of thinking (teamwork, problem solving, searching/spacial awareness, etc). This allows each individual to potentially shine and makes it more of a collaborative experience vs one all-star. This place had a mix! We enjoyed The Study. There was only 2 of us, so this room was challenging. We both have done several other escape rooms, I am up to 17, and my friend 4. So we had a decent knowledge on the concept. We enjoyed the tasks at hand, and really got stumped on some really great puzzle flows in the room. We had about 5 or 6 clues to almost get to the end. We escaped! Our party of six was comprised of one retired couple (us), plus our adult children and their spouses / significant others. We'd been to an escape room before, but they hadn't. We had a great time. Our hostess was very pleasant, and for the two times we asked for hints, quite helpful in a not-quite-on-the-nose way :-) The puzzles were challenging, with some depth - the overall puzzle was solvable only if you solved individual puzzles, then small groupings of the individual puzzles, then each of the main puzzles. There were two main puzzles that tied back and forth into each other as well - very nicely designed! The theme was instantly appealing: Edison vs. Tesla. All six of us come from science and engineering careers, and it was evident that the room designer had some deliciously mischevious science and engineering background as well. OK. I had never heard of Escape Rooms. Stumbled onto it by a Yelp thingy on the side of the page. I was intrigued!!! So, for my birthday, this was my request! Wrangled a couple of unsuspecting friends and we're off... *evil chuckle* Cori (hope that is spelled correctly) gave us the prelim info for us newbies. The advice about not messing with the ceiling tiles actually made sense at some point! (Nothing is there. Don't do it. Truly.) We did The Study, and I'll admit when we walked in, I wondered how there could be ANY clues in this little room with about nothing in it. SURPRISE! Clues can be quite small. And these clever people have found some interesting ways to fit a whole bunch into a lil space. WHAT FUN! All 4 of us contributed SOMEthing to the whole experience! One would see what the others couldn't, and something would make perfect sense to one that the other's were getting a headache over. We all have decided that Escape Rooms are going to be addicting. What a fun experience! We did this for my 12 year old daughter and her friends as part of her birthday party. It was a blast. They told me that it's mainly geared for 16 year+ but if we were ok with that, they would be fine having the girls, as long as there with an adult in the room. The staff was super friendly! The girls loved it. The room was really cool and the clues were challenging as they went along. You may ask for clues along the way through a walkie talkie. The girls requested 3 clues which were insightful without giving anything away. It's an hour to try to escape. And...THEY ESCAPED! With 5 seconds left to go! We all jumped up and down in excitement when we got out. The staff were just as happy saying the room had a 35% success rate. I was super impressed with their thought processes and teamwork. First time coming to Nodus 805 and we did "The Study", it was a little hard to find inside the building complex, it was upstairs and there were so many offices that during the night it made it a little more challenging to see. But the game master joked that, we made it though the first challenge. Our Game Master (I think it might have been Trina?) was amazing. Extremely helpful since we were newbies and very patient with all of our excitement screaming. We didn't get out but it was still a lot of fun! My only complaint was that it wasn't linear, for example where some escape rooms make you go back to another room or use items or objects that you've already used and thought you cleared. But it was still a lot of fun! read more

My wife and I completed The Study on Saturday night. It was an awesome date night! The Game Masters are wonderful (Izzy was fantastic) -- the theme was great, and the puzzles challenging. It was our first time trying an escape room, and we will certainly be back soon with friends to complete The Light Room! We really enjoyed the hints as they weren't too revealing, but still helpful. We completed the room in 59:55 -- with only three hints, so technically we're Sherlocks! My only suggestion would be to have some music or something playing in the background. We could hear the employees laughing and talking while we were in The Study (their room is next door), so that was the only thing that took you out of the moment. Overall, a very fun experience and one we are looking forward to doing again! read more

I went there with 15 people from work and was not sure what to expect having never done an escape room before. The folks running Nodus were great and they explained everything clearly before putting us in our rooms. We ended up having the greatest experience! It was great for team bonding, made us all work together to figure the way out and really made us think out of the box and expand our minds! We made it out with 2 minutes to spare! I grew up in this area before the escape room craze really took off. Whenever I come back to visit (I currently live in the Bay Area), I try and figure out some fun things to do with the rest of my time that isn't with my family. Out of curiosity, I wondered "Are there escape rooms in the area these days?" I didn't want to drive all the way out to L.A... and then discovered there was this one. Getting There: I got a little bit lost trying to get there as both Waze and Google Maps hasn't quite figured out the parking lot to this place. So pro-tip for the folks out there driving here, do a little street viewing. The room/part of the office suite is easiest to find if you've found the cul-de-sac on Moody Ct. The address does say Long Ct but I blame the city on that. Arriving: The escape room is in an office suite so understandably walking through the door you're greeted by some leather couches in a mini-lobby. Sign the waiver, yadda yadda. They let you bring your items in with you in a little plastic tote box vs lockers. Luckily you are booking that room with only people you know so that isn't too much of an issue. The Room: Production quality was decent for the size of the room and considering that this company looks to be fairly new to the game. The puzzle complexity compensated for the production value. I ran into mechanics that were familiar but the way with which Nodus805 used those mechanics was unique to me. Very few traditional red herrings. I've done at least 10 other escape rooms so I have an idea of order of operations and first approach at making connections when encountering puzzles. They have a fun "status" here of Sherlock (3 hints or less, I believe) and Watson (more than 3 hints), in addition to logging your time. I really like this and haven't seen it in the escape rooms that I've done so far. Mainly because, you could take a ton of hints and get out very quickly or take very few hints and get out just in time. I prefer the latter, and we still got out with quite a few minutes to spare and Sherlock status. The Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful as well as enthusiastic about escape rooms. We chatted with them for quite a while before heading out. I can't wait to wrangle a couple more people (I did the Study with one other person) for the new room. :) read more

We made it out of "the light room" with no hints at 50:30! Having been to a couple escape rooms in Los Angeles and San Diego, I thought this was well-executed. My co-workers and I went in as a group of 5 and all felt like the room and puzzles tied together pretty well to be theme. We escaped from The Study in 59:28!! When we first arrived, we thought we were at the wrong place because it's a commercial office complex. However, super easy to find Nodus once you're walking the grounds. Our awesome game leader, Deanna, saw us and greeted us from the upstairs walkway, waving and smiling! We had our Christmas work party here at Nodus 805...I was reluctant to going and being embarrassed, because I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed. LOL. It ended up that every one of us, 5 of us, brought something and saw something different in the experience. We had a great time even though it was nerve racking at times. The person who put together this room was very detailed orientated. It really kept us on our toes plus it took all five of us to figure things out. In the end we made it out with I believe four minutes to spare with only taking 3 clues. Afterwards, we went to Starbucks and sat and talked over our time at Nodus 805. All of us would definitely recommend this adventure. Now we're looking forward to doing their next room which I hear is even harder. Yikes! My coworkers and I (4 total) did the Lightroom. It was quite challenging and we used the whole hour but completed it! The puzzles were challenging but one or two hints in the right direction help A LOT. Alex at Nodus 805 is a great guy and has done a lot of work to balance the room and provides helpful clear hints if necessary. Lightroom was challenging but very rewarding. The ambiance is a little low BUT if there were too many false clues or distractions then it might be too difficult. This was my first escape room but my coworkers had done a few before. I recommend going with a team of more experienced Escape Room people or doing the other easier room(s) first. Highly recommend! read more

I've been to many escape rooms. Some are all done up really nice and some are more simple. We did Thomas Edison. While the puzzle itself was perplex, my issue was more of lack of decor. People want an experience. People are celebrating bdays, or going on a date night, you want to look and feel like you did something cool. Inside lobby, was very small. There are two escape rooms right next to each other. So if two groups finish at the same time, the employees are trying to juggle the customers in a tiny lobby for a group photo along with the people waiting to go next. Very awkward. Not only awkward, but the people start talking about the room right in front of you and the employees, asked them to hold off talking. Then they walk outside and talk and the walls are paper thin. I can hear you! Ugh. Inside, there was no care for decor and capturing a vibe. I feel that is half the experience. Or at least slap some freaking paint up! It was plain white like the lobby. Puzzle was elaborate but they need to tie the puzzle into the decor. And you can hear the people in the other escape room!! Annoying. Honestly, they need to move in a new spot and carry through the ideas into the decor. read more

Finally! An escape room in the Thousand Oaks area so we don't have to drive down to Los Angeles. My group of friends and I have been on an escape room kick lately and have done many rooms down in the Los Angeles/Hollywood area. I heard through some friends that a new room was opening in Thousand Oaks and had to try it! They seem to only have one room open so far (other room says "coming soon" as of this review). The room itself was quite good, in terms of escape room quality. There were some clever and unique things about it that I won't spoil for anyone here. The theme of the room isn't super unique compared to other escape room I have done ... but the way the room progressed and the story line within the room was very well done I thought. In terms of difficulty I would put it near the top of the rooms I have done so far which I appreciated. The guy working the room (owner? not sure) was nice and wasn't pushy with hints (my biggest escape room pet peeve is when they give you a hint when you don't ask for one). I am interested in seeing what they do with the second room. read more

I went here with three other friends for my birthday. None of us had ever been to an escape room before. Alex was incredibly welcoming and willing to answer any questions we had before going in. He even suggested we do a different room than we signed up for because it had a higher success rate and we were all new to this, so we decided to switch rooms and he was able to accommodate that. Overall the experience was nothing but positive. We all had a great time working together and the room was challenging but gratifying. We were able to finish the room with 29 seconds to spare and with a few hints from Alex along the way to help push us in the right direction when we were feeling stuck. Tucked away in the corner of a strange cabin/townhouse/apartment/office complex is Nodus 805. It's almost a brain-twister just finding the place, but it's on the second floor at the end of the hallways; it's up a staircase on the east side of the complex if you're walking from the parking lot in the back. The whole thing -- designing and engineering the rooms, customer service, hosting games -- is done by a single person. This is all the more impressive because of the quality of all the things that he does. The room itself is actually very good. When you first walk in, you might not be very impressed, as it looks like an office (probably because it IS an office) and a lack of decor usually indicates that the owner is either inexperienced or lazy. But the great strength of this room lies not in the way the room looks, but in the puzzles and the story. The story and the background of the room unfolds as you solve puzzle after puzzle, which is rare in non-horror-themed escape rooms such as this one. And the puzzle set is one of the best I've seen in any escape room. There's not a lot of them, but they are challenging. Every single puzzle hits the sweet spot between difficulty and logic; you will be frustrated until the solution is reached and you will be kicking yourself at how obvious the answer should have been. The owner also gives excellent hints: Instead of telling you the answer straight-up, he will give you a very small tip that will help you solve the puzzle yourself. If you love puzzles, this room will be a wonderful head-scratcher that is worth your time. This room will not wow you. It lacks the impact of other escape rooms. But for a one-man effort, it is very impressive. Is it worth the travel from far outside the area? Probably not; there are other rooms that I would recommend. But if you are in the area, take advantage. It is a gift to the area, with a wonderful owner who is eager to talk to you about his business and a game that will appeal to people of all ages. Nodus 805 has one room up and running and one room in progress. I will be back to check out their new room, which is for more people and holds a lot of promise. read more

This was my first escape room and it did not disappoint! The room was challenging but not too over the top. There were four in our party and we were able to SHERLOCK our way out of The Study with just over a minute to spare! Our instructor, Cori, gave us clear rules and was readily available with any help that was needed.
