Returned today for another meal at M Shack for smash burgers and garlic knots at Bronx House Pizza and craft beers at Really Good Beer Stop. Dessert was at Ben & Jerrys Ice Cream. The Publix is the anchor business and the retail shops close early.

Just about 10 minutes north outside of historic St. Augustine is a unique castle that sits back…read morefrom the main road among trees and hedges. Sadly, the owner and creator of Castle Otttis, Kendle Icke, passed away in July 2023. However, his son, who lives on the property does conduct tours for small groups of people who have reservations. His tours are very interesting with information on how the castle came to be. Apparently, Mr. Icke had a couple of dreams about a castle in great detail, which he shared with a builder friend of his. The friend encouraged him to build it and agreed to help him. They were able to get donated building materials to work with. Mr. Icke built the castle in the image of old castles in Ireland and dedicated it to his wife. Castle Ottis was built between 1984-1988. The Ickes also had a home on the property to the left of the castle. We took the tour with a small group of people, which worked out very well. There are 3 levels if you count the rooftop, where you will see gorgeous panoramic views of the ocean. This is a castle based on 1000 year old Irish castles. The tour is free but donations will be greatly appreciated. A must see if you are in St. Augustine. It is a magical experience. There are special events held at the castle, like weddings or anniversaries. It is also great for photography opportunities. This is a one of a kind opportunity. Please note that Castle Otttis does not have handicapped accessibility. Parking is available on the property for the guests. You are allowed to take pictures inside the castle.

Indoor malls, especially ones this size, are becoming a rarity these days. The Avenues at Southside…read moreJAX has survived and seemingly endured through some tough years, such as the Covid period. Looking at the shops as I was walking through, I didn't see many stores that had closed down, though there were a few. It did lose Forever 21, one of its biggies, but it will be replaced in the not too distant future. The Avenues three pillars at this time are Belk, Dillards, and JC Penny. I came on a slower day during school time and it was a very pleasant visit. There are more than 150 shops and specialty outlets here (like two fantastic coffee kiosks!). Certainly far more than anyone can cover in a day. For me, I love the three sports shops here! Lids, Locker Room by Lids, and Palm Beach Autographs. I'm always guaranteed to make a visit in all three of these stores! Palm Beach Autographs sells sports paraphernalia you won't find at many other places in JAX. You'll find banners, pro and college football team pennants, helmets (large and small, many autographed), signs, and many other unique items for sports' enthusiasts. Lids is mainly a ball cap shop. I got my new Jaguars ball cap on this visit! It also provides stitching on ball caps - a unique feature found rarely in stores of this type. Locker Room by Lids provides all the Jacksonville Jags jerseys, ball caps, T-shirts, and other team player jerseys any fan could hope for. Lids at Town Center has closed. So now I'll make the trip here more often. Two other places I love are Le Crepes and now, Coffee Mood. Make sure you stop at these stellar coffee kiosks when you visit. I'll drift in to Van's, along with a few others. Of note, there are many similar clothing stores and plenty of places for cosmetics and clothing for women at this mall too. As for value, most of the stores here are reputable and things are priced higher than what you may get online. Of course, many shops offer deals, so even this can make visiting The Avenues worth it. Nocatee practically offers its own "lifestyle" and has almost everything you need located within the Nocatee community or nearby. It is located on the first coast and offers shopping, restaurants, parks, pools, water parks, schools, walking trails, etc. and it's minutes away from the beach. In addition, it is a short drive to Saint Augustine, downtown Jacksonville and the Jacksonville beaches. This is a golf cart community and depending on where you live...you can just drive your golf cart to the grocery, dentist, to a restaurant and so on...that's pretty cool! That said...they have designated golf cart parking as well! Check it out if you are looking to move...there seems to be something available at every price point.

Sawgrass Village is the local shopping center for the Ponte Vedra area, but it's not exactly a…read moredestination like St. Johns Town Center. It is dotted with locally owned shops & boutiques and a few big anchors like Publix and CVS. It starting a redevelopment project in 2013 and I like the idea of where it's trying to go. I've had jewelry repairs done at Village Jeweler. I've eaten breakfast at Elizabeth's. And I've gotten a couple of manicures at Sawgrass Nails. It's got a variety of shops, but it definitely could use some fresh places. I just hope they can refill the shops and give me options to support locally in my own neighborhood rather than having to - goodness forbid - cross the ditch! Even a quick service chain like Panera would be nice for this end of the beach; I'll guess we'll have to wait and see.

There were a few associates that came up to me to see if I needed help or assistance. I checked to see if there were any shoes that caught my eye. There were a few, but I decided to wait to see if they'd come down in price. The store was organized and clean.
