The Short Version: Huge convention centre that holds public…read moreexhibits as well as international conferences. Has expanded greatly since it was first built and also looks different after it was renovated in the early 2000s. The Long Version: My first experience with Palais des Congrès was many moons ago, while I was living in Montreal as a university student. I attended a hair styling convention there as a hair model (despite being poor and starving, I somehow managed to have long luscious hair, lol). I did several hair shows there over the years. Prior to this, I had no idea the convention centre even existed. As a university student living away from home for the first time, I rarely ventured too far away from campus, haha. I did go see a few exhibits at the convention centre after I learned of its existence. The Palais des Congrès de Montreal was built in 1983. It was a drab concrete building. It only got its colourful glass panels exterior in 2002 when it underwent renovation and expansion. Recently, I was back in Montreal and in the area, so decided to pop in for fun. It's open to the public, not just to people attending conferences, conventions or shows there. There is free Wi-Fi, public washrooms, and even shops (like a flower shop), services (like a hair salon) and restaurants (all fast food). As of July 2026, the Palais des Congrès has a shuttle service to and from the Montreal Airport (YUL). It's $9 per person each way. While I usually favour preserving original architecture, I have to concede that the renovations do make the building look more attractive. Parking is available in their private parkade. $5 for 30 minutes up to a maximum of $30 per day. Review #140 (2026)

The space is very nicely put together, inside and out and includes a covered terrace with heating and a louvred ceiling which provides a nice space no matter the weather. They've brought their iconic menu to the West Island including pizza, sandwiches and pasta. Café Gentile of course has their complete coffee bar and also offers cocktails. It's really a great spot for all occasions. The quality of the food and service at Café Gentile is always high and this new location maintains that tradition. To be honest, I've found that their prices tend to be a bit on the high side, however the high quality and classy decors of this location help to quantify the menu prices. All in all I would highly recommend Cafe Genitle DDO.

They tried, but their attempts at exotic dishes missed the mark. The room where the talks were held was very big with high ceilings and semi-stadium seating so that people in the back could see. The screen wasn't huge, but it was big enough. The last night we had a banquet in the large ballroom on the top floor, and that was very nice. It looks like a wedding venue. It would make a very nice wedding venue actually and I'm sure they have them there all the time. So it was a little weird feeling like I was at a wedding with a bunch of virus scientists.... The service during lunch/dinner was great. The waiters were nice and attentive. No complaints there. Overall, I liked the venue and wouldn't mind going back there for another meeting. Be careful with the food though.

I expect dried chicken but instead got veal filet. And I don't even know what that desert was except it was freaking amazing. As convention centers go, it works. I have to admit when Jamie W made a reservation for five nights in Montreal at the Boxotel, I…read morethought it would feel, well, boxy. Post-modern design with no character was what I feared. However, this accommodation turned out to be much closer in spirit to the hybrid aparthotels we stayed at in Porto and Madrid just a few months earlier. He booked a Superior Suite with King Bed and Balcony, and it was quite spacious at 538 square feet spread over two floors. The main floor consisted of the bedroom/living space and bathroom with a balcony, while a fully equipped kitchen, dining area, and another balcony terrace made up the second floor. The ceilings and floors were concrete, but the rest of the interiors were all blond wood and white walls. Full housekeeping occurred after our third night and towel replacements upon request. The Ontario Street location really worked well for us and surprisingly so. We initially thought our proximity to the UQAM campus might get too youthfully douchey for us. It wasn't too bad, and what trumped it was the pure convenience of being close to local buses and two key subway stations (Saint-Laurent and Berri-UQAM). We were within easy walking distance from Old Montreal, and the Gay Village on Sainte-Catherine. The rate was quite reasonable at $188 per night. Definitely recommended for longer-than-average stays. This is the first hotel I've been to where there is no people interaction at all. There is no front desk or anyone to check in/out with. They send you a code in advance and you use it every time you enter the hotel and for your room. For some, maybe this would not be great but it was simple and easy for us. The rooms are equipped with kitchenette's and king size murphy beds, giving you both a lot of room and ability to live a little more like you would at home. The kitchenette was well stocked with plates, silverware, etc. I was actually a bit surprised that the bed was comfortable and I had no major qualms with the bathroom. It didn't have the water pressure I would prefer, but most hotels don't. And to top it off, I found this very convenient in terms of access to neighbourhoods we were visiting. Would definitely stay here again next I'm in Montreal.
