We were planning on staying at…read moreWatch Hill but the wind advisory was increasingly alarming and we had already hunkered down at Block earlier in the week in gusts over 30 and we were tuckered out. Mystic Shipyard took us in with a few hours notice. We ended up docked next to an amazingly helpful and cheery couple. We had never docked our boat at a fixed dock before, and that has to do with my only complaint. In addition to the fixed docks we were placed at the very end against the seawall. Not a good idea for folks unfamiliar with the marina, in my opinion. We ended up taking the next slip over because the maneauver seemed very stressful and we had been told either slip would be okay. It was just hard for transients who don't have fixed dock lines set up and who get in in the afternoon or evening when no deck hands are available. Thankfully two other boaters gave us some assistance. We LOVED the short dinghy ride into the town dinghy dock and the ammenties were fantastic. Boy was I dying for a non cockpit shower with an actual shower spout instead of a sun shower. We will come again!

Called the marina and they said they were really backed up and didn't think they could get to looking at the boat for a few weeks. Called Mike at Land and Sea and he was able to send Brandon out the next day. Turns out that it was just a corrosion problem but I elected to change out both starter batteries given their age. I really appreciated that they were honest with me and said I didn't need to replace the batteries just yet. I don't write reviews very often but this was such an exceptional experience that I just had to. Cannot recommend them highly enough!!

The RR swing bridge opens on demand -hail channel 13 -- but the Highway bridge -also hail "Mystic Rt 1 hway Bridge on 13- opens only 40 minutes after the hour so plan accordingly. Mariners searching for a place to put in should call in advance for availability. It is a decent sized yard with fuel, ice and a clean swimming pool. On the east side if the river it is a half mile from the Mystic train station and about that distance from a gas station and pizza place. If you take your dinghy up the river there is a dinghy dock just south of the Route one bridge and you can head into town. There are a couple of ice cream paroles, a toy store, casual and expensive restaurants and wonderful clothing and gift shops. Check out the galleries! The gem of the Mystic River is Mystic Seaport. You can arrive by dinghy and put her in north of the north dock which is past the lighthouse on the bend of the river. Brewers is a wonderful spot to venture to by boat and take in all Mystic has to offer. If casinos is your thing you probably could get a cab. The yard also can do repairs. Grills, laundry and clean showers are available. Wifi is available also and you can ask about pump outs. There is a ump out service on the river. Seatow also operates nearby. The marina is quiet and the boaters are respectful. It is not a party marina like some in Newport. Great for families. My favorite restaurants: Kitchen Little for breakfast (by dinghy). Marguerites for Mexican, Angie's for pizza and Italian take out ( they deliver), Oyster Company, S&P Oyster for the view of the river, Drawbridge Ice Cream for dessert!
