the motor I bought in 22 was delivered and supposed to be reconditioned and ready for water. put it in this spring did not run. took to a repair place they tool the top off and said it was missing throttle cable, some of the parts were broken etc. Outboard Exchange has not called me back even though they said there is a Warrentry on the motor. Run don't walk away from this place. they do not do what they say they do...I am out 2800 on top of the 8k I had to spend on a new motor. total scam!!! read more

UPDATE after their reply: True, I did not have my mask on, it was in my hand. If you had put yours on I would have quickly done the same. I don't think I was in the office for more than 20 seconds and didn't go far past the front door...still, I agree I should have entered wearing it. Here's a quote from the email I received when requesting service, nothing was said when I dropped it off saying it would be any longer. "We are extremely busy, as of now it's about 3 weeks from drop off for us to diagnose/repair" At no time did you state it would take longer then what you quoted, even though we communicated a couple times after dropping it off. If it was going to end up being 5 weeks, just tell me so I'm not anticipating getting my boat back when I expected. Maybe it was only going to be a couple more days or the rest of the season, you wouldn't give me an answer. Maybe say there are only 2 boats before you now...something. Their replies to bad reviews are very cordial, which is great but notice they never take responsibility for what happened... __________________________________________________ Very disappointed with them. I inquired about getting some work done on my motor and was told it would be 3 weeks to diagnose and repair. Given the season, I understood and brought it in. I had done several repairs myself prior and went through all of them when I brought it in. They pointed out everything I did was wrong, which I took ok....I usually don't do anything right the first time and welcomed an expert's advise/opinion. 3rd week in and I was told it was taking longer than expected but they would try to at least have someone look at it and diagnose. 4 weeks in, no one looked at it yet, and after I checked in again was told the boats ahead of me are taking longer than expected. I can understand that, but they also needed to point out something I was already told needed attention and it wasn't what I brought the boat in for......frustrating. If you had time to pull the cover off and point out (again) what I didn't do right myself, at least take 5 minutes to fire it up and see what I brought it in for. After that I went to pick it up and it was weird. No one really talked to me and it was awkward. Not even an apology for never getting a chance to diagnose the problem.... Don't expect any communication if it's past the expected completion date unless you call and/or email. Maybe their work is great and the pricing reasonable....I'll never know. read more

Good guy but customer service is poor at best. Hard to even get someone to pick up phone and then call back if you leave a voicemail. Minor corner cuts and inferior parts used but engine runs great. read more

Nice people that don't know how to deliver on their promises, how to order the right parts or how to get back to you when you have an issue. They said it would take 2 weeks to put the motor on my boat it took 6. They said they had used controls for $75k but then asked for deposit because they did NOT have a used one. But they install the used one instead and tried to charge me $200. They didn't know they forgot to install the Raycor filter they said they required on all installed motors. They said they painted all motors but didn't need to paint this one. So, when I finally got the boat in the water it would not start... Being 4 hours away and on my vacation I found someone who discovered the controls were crap and installed a new ones. So I ask if Tim would kindly refund the $75 plus an hour of labor? I asked three times and was told that I needed to return the boat instead? I am sorry but these guys need to get their act together. This is the lowest rating I have ever done. Great Experience! The owner, Tim, kept me informed along the rebuild process sending videos along the way which was very cool.....injector testing, crankshaft assembly, lower unit, etc. And, the motor runs GREAT! Starts right up, idles nice, revs right up to WOT..... These motors are sandblasted, painted, have new stickers, and look brand new. They are closest thing to a factory rebuild IMHO..... For half the price of a new one! I searched the web extensively before committing and there are a lot of shady rebuild companies out there, but I could not find any bad rebuilds by Outboard exchange. They know what they are doing.... I highly recommend Outboard Exchange, so much that I recommended them to my older brother who is having them rebuild his '96 Evinrude 115hp! read more

Tim at the Outboard Exchange is as good as they get. He did a complete motor rebuild for me. Like any major repair they are not always perfect and I had some problems. With just a phone call to Tim he came out to my boat and corrected the problem on the spot. This guy really cares about his customers and the quality of his work. Just had a great experience at the Outboard Exchange. I walked in and described the part that broke on the fuel pump of my Johnson 15. Tim immediately knew the part that I was trying to describe, and that he had one in Stock. We went out to make sure that it was the right piece,indeed it was. When I asked about payment Tim said it was on the house!!! Needles to say I will definitely be going back to Outboad exchange next time I have engine troubles. The steal your gas out of you boat to run their generator that powers their building. Also your boat will sit in the yard for months after they told you it will be done in less than a week. When you try to call them you get the secretary who says someone will call you back but they never do. I finally went there got the boat and took it somewhere else. read more

good place to get used parts. Rebuilt power heads, rebuilt lower units and service work are another story all together. Be very cautious about buying anything Tim has rebuilt or repaired because getting service or warranty work done on items purchased is almost impossible. Tim is always too busy rebuilding to follow up if you have a problem. Generally he will not respond to phone calls or emails. If you do buy consider holding the payment until you get a test run that you personally witness. If a problem crops up during the warranty period consider yourself on your own. Tim is a very good mechanic but a terrible businessman After delivery service is non existent but you can usually get the phone answered by pushing the I WANT TO BUY A PART button then when you want to speak to the office girl you get I'll leave a message on his desk Like so many business today they are quick to sell and collect your money but oh so poor on follow on problems BUYER BEWARE read more

I've been doing business with this outfit for over 10 years, I have had different not so new outboards over the years and with them came problems. These guys have always been able to help me out and get me back on the water. Never had any problems with anything they rebuilt or swapped out. Get there early in the season, they are very busy in the summer. read more
