#short and sweet version: this guy is a crook, hikes prices after the work is done, wont make it right and is SUPER aggressive#
Alright, so I've done home job powder coating for parts for years now. It doesnt take a genius to figure out how to lay it even and throw it in the oven. I've probably done over 500 parts with very, very little problems.
This time it was a bit more of a cosmetic piece, so I decided to pay a 'professional' to handle it for me. I figured if my home baked parts looks as good as they do, a professionally coated piece would look even better. Sounds logical, right?
I was first told it would take four days. Not a problem. I sent him an email asking him to call me when the parts were blasted so I could come in and mask off a few places, heard nothing back from him. Two voicemails left, no response. Two more emails sent. No dice. Finally, about two weeks later, he calls me back finally, saying they were blasted and I could come in. I wasn't in town so I sent him pictures of what the parts needed to look like when they were finished. He says no problem he'll do them that day
I get a call back five days later saying they were done and that he was raising the price $20. I'm like whatever I NEED these parts by this time.
I get them home and unwrapped. Not only did he not mask off all the correct places, he didnt mask them off the same way between pieces. Some he did detail masking, others it looks like he just took a piece of tape and ripped it in the general shape of what needed to be taped off and slapped it on.
The supposed 'high gloss' finish is satin at best. Its covered in bubbles, dust and boils and looks like absolute dog s&$t.
I take it back to him and he starts getting super aggressive with me saying, "that's bulls#&t i responded to every f&#%ing email you sent" "I was waiting on you the whole f&@&ing time!" And claimed that the bubbling was from the material underneath gassing out. Like I said l, I've done hundreds of these parts, not a single one looked like there was #BLASTING MEDIA LEFT ON THE SURFACE WHEN I SPRAYED THEM#
Yeah that's right. He didnt bother "CLEANING# the parts after blasting. He finally agreed to redo the worst two pieces. Low and behold, he also didnt remove all the power coating when he repeated the so the new ones also look like crap.
That was money that had to come directly out of my pocket, on top of the additional $200 i had to pay another shop to remove the layers of powder coating and repaint it and three weeks of my life and my customer's time down the drain. read more
