A take home kit your better off getting a bag of large marshmallows, higher end grahams and a nice block of fancier chocolate for $20. Fill up as much as you can. It was 103 F there in Aug. I could only spent 15 min shoveling. The flies aren't too bad but there are a bunch. The smell is strong, but I got used to it quickly. I had 6 garbage bags full. They didn't make my car smell which was great for my daughter. The compost is visibly helping my garden. I'll definitely go back, maybe in the winter. Check hours and days of operation before going.

There are mountains of compost, and all you need is a big car (ideally a truck) and some muscle to scoop them up. Mushroom compost is high in salt so you need to be careful not to use too much with fruit trees. On the other hand, vegetables love mushroom compost. They also sell all kinds of mushroom varieties (Portobello, Shiitake, King Oyster, Cremini, etc.) at their front office for a pretty reasonable price (around $12/lb). Overall, a great place to get free compost, buy fresh mushrooms, and enjoy a country scenery ride in Escondido.

The things I've ordered most are almonds, walnuts, pecans, dried apricots, mango, prunes, brazil nuts, cashews. Pretty much any whole food they sell is excellent. Whatever nuts you can buy in high end supermarkets like Whole Foods are awful compared to this, and often rancid (you don't realize until you've had actual good quality). Even when I buy almonds at farmers markets or the most high end boutique organic shop in LA, I always find occasional bitter almonds. I have honestly never had a bitter almond from here, which is kind of amazing because I've gone through huge amounts of them over the years. Especially if you know how to soak/sprout nuts and seeds (Nourishing Traditions style), these are the best tasting nuts and seeds you can eat. What made me think of these guys at the moment is I found a small oil press I want to buy so I can press my own nut and seed oils at home. The stuff supermarkets (and even most gourmet shops) sell is awful and too refined to be nutritious. For the quantity of nuts and seeds I will need, this would be my supplier.

I met the owner Robin today and he and the staff were so welcoming and kind (especially with my 8mo old puppy who came with me ). I like coming here as the drive is scenic in my opinion . You take the back roads that basically connects Escondido and RSF. It's a calming drive . Make sure you call ahead of time to confirm they have the chocolate berries that day . I believe they dip them fresh everyday . They have both dark and white chocolate berries . I really enjoy the dark chocolate berries and today they were amazing . It was a thicker coat of dark chocolate that wasn't too hard (or maybe it softened on drive home ). The dark chocolate and ripe strawberry combination is exactly what I needed this afternoon on a hot day . It's $12 for a half dozen . I also purchased three baskets of organic strawberries and one raspberry basket . I think it was $12 for the berries and $4 for the raspberry. My total was $40 which wasn't so bad for organic . My pup and I had a fun time and she loved socializing with the kind staff here .

Once i looked around, I could understand why it was so busy. The store primarily has foods and clothes from Guatemala, but they also sell lots of international items. Food, snacks, drinks, clothes, shoes, handmade items, kitchen ware, candles, alcohol, toys, baby supplies, school supplies, everything! They even had those games that are at arcades, with the claws! This place is awesome and I will definitely be back.
