It was open at the time I was in the area and it did look inviting. I perused the menu and decided to give it a try. Walking in I saw the old-fashioned furnishings, metal chairs, display cases, wall shelves, big bar in the middle all in a long and narrow room. Yessss, this looks lie something out of the 50s and I like it. After a long hard look at the menu I opted for the Salami platter... Strangely enough there wasn't salami, but more like a smoked ham, prosciutto like meat. It tasted great, so what's in a name. Delicious heirloom tomatoes, capers, salami impersonator, cream cheese, capers, pickles and your choice of bread. I had chosen crumpets and regretted that . Not because they weren't delicious, because they were so yummy, but they were also so buttery that I couldn't get the cream cheese to stick and everything I tried to put on the crumpet just slid right off them. I got the bottomless cup of coffee and I must say, this is really good coffee and the refills kept coming also. I love the atmosphere in here and there are so many great choices on the menu. If I ever come back tot Auckland, I will definitely stop by this place again.

It's a popular place and they were crowded but we didn't have to wait for a table. There was plenty of food for each order. My wife had a street dog and fries and I had a Ruben. They were pretty decent. I wasn't as happy with the fries. They were like the bottom of a pile and mostly little pieces with very few full length slices. Prices were extremely reasonable. I would definitely eat there again.

The White Lady is a food truck serving a variety of burgers and sandwiches, as well as chips. There is no seating, so they offer take away only. I was a little uncomfortable, as there was a group of homeless people sitting and laying down right next to the food truck. Because of this, I just wanted to grab my food and go. The food took about 15 mins to finish and we were out of there. They did have tomato sauce, as well as garlic aoli sauce, free to take as much as you want. I ordered the White Lady, which is one of their signature burgers. It had a beef patties, Scotch steak, Colby cheese, bacon, fried egg, grilled pineapple, fried onions, lettuce, and tomato. It sounded like a ton of ingredients, but I figured I had to try their namesake burger. I had taken my food back to my hotel, which was only about a 10-15 minute walk back. Understandably, the burger was a bit soggy. That wasn't the worst part though. My main gripe with this burger though, was the Scotch steak. It was probably my fault for not entirely knowing what a Scotch steak was. The steak was chewy and I was NOT able to bite it off each time I took a bite of the burger. After a couple bites struggling to separate the steak from the rest of the burger, I ended up just taking the steak out and eating it with a fork and knife. I cannot understand why you would put something on a burger if it cannot be bitten off solely with your teeth. It goes against the point of having something handheld. On top of that, the steak was very bland. The burger patties itself was okay, nothing amazing. I come from the United States, the home of fatty foods and the best burgers, so maybe I just have high standards. For me, this place was a one and done just to see what the hype was about.

Great simple burger stand. Old history behind the place and tasty burgers and fries (chips).read more

I am traditionally not a huge Ponsonby fan thinks its a bit too ponsy for my blood but Little Easy is the right mix of pub vibes with a nice bar fit out so for me breaks the mold of what you would traditionally find in Ponsonby... loving it!

I was…read moresuper excited because I have never tried her particular bingo (but have always wanted to), plus I have only ever been to Little Easy for drinks, so I thought it was a great chance to try out their food, in particular their burgers. The atmosphere was buzzing when we arrived and eventually, the place was packed - definitely a place to be on a weeknight! The bingo was so much fun, lots of laughs and I highly recommend it. If you are thinking of going, make sure you book ahead as it is very popular and also arrive earlier than the start time for some great pub food and drink! Our waiters throughout the whole night were super friendly and helpful in terms of what to order for drinks and food, which was great. The 'Spiced Coffee' cocktail instantly caught my eye, consisting of Appleton's rum, Kahlua, espresso and house spiced syrup. It was a dream - creamy, sweet, bitter and nicely presented. I would definitely recommend this cocktail and I can't wait to go back and have another one! Little Easy has a great burger selection - from a three patty burger, to a vegetarian one, to pulled pork and there is also a lamb option. I couldn't go past the 100% pulled pork burger filled with ham, Swiss cheese, slaw and spicy mayo. The burger, WOW! It was huge, juicy, and it had a great kick to it! It was quite filling, so I would recommend sharing it with another person. Others ordered their vegetarian burger, chicken parma, mac n cheese and chicken and waffles. All dishes were tasty and hit the spot. We also ordered desserts - chocolate fondant with pistachio ice cream, plus three scoops of peanut butter, flat white and banana ice cream. To be honest, the desserts were all a let-down. The fondant was not runny inside and tasted more like a brownie. The ice cream was very average compared to other ice cream places in Auckland. Big points to the bingo, the burger, delicious cocktail and of course, Little Easy for their great hospitality - it was an enjoyable night!!!

Boy and Bird 09/09/20140 Comments…read more Boy and Bird is the great new venture from NZ Chef Michael Van De Elzen. I thought it was brave to open an eatery with a similar concept as Bird on Wire since, also just being down the road, its up against some strong competition. I was actually pleasantly surprised of the 'chicken kitchen'. Between two of us we shared everything, but the menu is versatile for sharing or individual portions. Boy and Bird is known for serving free range chicken which has been citrus brined, spice rubbed and rotisseried. The meal options are served with slaw and chunkies, with choice of a whole, half or quarter of a chicken. What I admire is the length that is taken to offer healthier options. Whether you want white or brown meat for quarter birds and no skin can be asked upon request. Everything we had was full of flavour, very light and grease-free. Oh except the Beef Krokets ha. Although you dont leave feeling stuffed or bloated. The salad was fresh and vibrant. Its a great portion size, and although its $14 and vegetarian, the ingredients in the salad are expensive such as halloumi and quinoa, so it all adds up to its value. The Chicken brioche roll was nice but to be honest the bun itself didn't taste anything special. If we hadn't been told their purple (they use a purple potato in the dough) and steamed, I would think its a pretty ordinary roll. The beef krokets are great, as the meat is pulled which we didn't expect so they were really tender, although they looked a bit overcooked from the fryer. I was really pleased by the great waiter, he was efficient and meal checked. So tick tick. Good Job Boy and Bird - keep up the good work.
