Suburban Pub Food at Fine Dining Prices
Group of eight at No 35 on March 21st 2015 as my guests. Table service extremely poor. Three courses for most guests. Most of the entrees could be charitably described as bland. There was no pepper on the table and none was offered by the staff. Three of the main courses were sent back to the kitchen as the meat was raw. Not rare, but raw. Staff taking the order never asked any of the guests how they would like their beef cooked. In addition, steak knives had to be asked for as it was impossible to cut the beef using then knives supplied. The replacement meals were received well after the remaining five guests had finished their main courses, and had only the remains of some pretty ordinary side dishes served 30 minutes earlier to accompany their meals. Table full of dirty plates while all this was happening. Waiter was either oblivious to all this or didn't care. The replacement meals were tasteless with few accompaniments. French fries, four separate serves in all, were over salted and were mostly left uneaten. Other side dishes were just taking up space on the table. One of the mains, a chicken dish, was dry, tough, and not accompanied by any sauces. Desserts on the menu were either not available or turned out to be not worth ordering. Staff had no idea at the time of ordering the desserts that the kitchen either had run out, or was about to run out of one of the desserts.
Historically, as a regular patron of both the hotel and No 35, both the service and food quality have both been excellent. This is no longer the case. Until the quality of service and food improves, and unless you want a mediocre pub meal at prices trending towards fine dining prices, go somewhere else. Not even remotely worth the $800 the meal cost. read more
