Currently ranked #25 best restaurant in the world according to me…read more During my second trip to Edinburgh, I finally took the plunge and stopped in for dinner, even though no one had ever specifically recommended Olive Branch. But I had stood outside perusing the menu posted near the entryway several times before and eventually had a reckoning. Inside, Olive Branch is modern and carefully designed with high ceilings, a full bar, exposed, and has the menu written in chalk on one of the walls. It's cozy inside with relatively few tables, maybe 10 or fewer. The menu looked inspired and, best of all, it was simplified down to only a handful of dishes - a good sign. We went with the grilled asparagus appetizer [A+], which was super fresh and delicious with a novel flavor mix of micro greens, pea puree, and pickled fennel. For the main course, I ordered the roasted lamb rump. This was served with pea puree again, parsnip crisps, and lentils. Everything about this dish was exquisite. The lamb was soft and well seasoned with incredible sauce. The lentils were nicely seasoned and cooked perfectly. (Usually, this is where restaurants really cut corners.) My dad ordered the ribeye, which tried and scored as an [A]. For dessert, I did the marshmallow and dark chocolate cheesecake, which was to die for [A+]. Overall, they did everything exceptionally well. Our server was upbeat, truly knowledgeable about the food, and on-point with our food and drink. Each dish showed me that both the quality of the food was superior as was the detail and thought put into its preparation. I was stunned. Wow...

Some hits, some weird misses. The goats cheese and fig jam was a lovely starter. The gyoza with bbq…read moresauce was....odd, as was the teriyaki risotto. There was meant to be coconut in that dish, but it was not there. The homemade focaccia was not like any homemade focaccia I've ever seen - where was the crisp top and airy texture? It was served cold, which I think was a miss that could easily be fixed. Puddings were nice. Staff were lovely. Wine was expensive.

Sticky Toffee Pudding is synonymous with Scotland, and when doing a search, after dinner one night…read morein Edinburgh for the best Sticky Toffee Pudding in town, Wedgewood showed up at the top of the list. So, armed with a great desire to eat the best, and without any reservation (but later in the evening), we marched down the Royal Mile to the restaurant and looked as hopeful as possible when we walked in. Our hopes were answered with a quick delivery of my wife and me to a nice table for two and the dessert menu. We shared the Sticky Toffee Pudding. It was the first one we had in Scotland and the one that became the litmus test for all the others. It was REALLY GOOD. The sauce it was coated with was rich and premium...the cake was perfect with the perfect amount of spices in it to make it all feel very indulgent and perfect. Honestly, every Sticky Toffee Pudding we had after this one was a little bit of a disappointment. Thanks, Wedgewood The Restaurant, for giving us a space late one June night, and for the best Sticky Toffee Pudding we've ever had.

I started with a green gazpacho that was delicious and my husband had the salad with smoked lamb. Bread was hot and butter oh so good. I had salmon as my main course and venison rage was what my husband had. Both perfectly cooked and absolutely the best presentation. I ordered the cheese course(yum!) and sticky toffee was my husbands choice. Empty plates all around. I don't drink alcohol but they had a lovely NA Sauvignon from South Africa. Perfect. This is a must visit restaurant. We only wish we went back there today!!!

I got the fiery ginger drink and it was indeed tasty. I could stand for more ginger heat, but this is better than most. We really wanted to try their Cullen Skink. We were advised that it was really rich so we might want to get a small for a light lunch. We were so glad we did. The soup was off the charts delicious. It was really rich, but also had nice smoked haddock flavor. The potatoes were sliced thin and were melting soft. It was a really good soup. It was a good think we did not order a big bowl of it. We shared a rhubarb meringue. The rhubarb was delicious, but it would be easier to eat if the pieces were shorter. The custard and meringue were lovely. This is cozy a local community place. While we were there several groups of locals came in greeted the staff and each other.

I ordered the Cullen Skink as my starter, and it was 1 of the best bites of my 2 week trip; the fish was flaky and wel/-cooked, as were all the other ingredients, with a lovely background of smoky, meatiness. My main was the Mac and Cheese, which was solid as well (I may or may not have burned the roof of my mouth, but that's on me!). The staff/service was excellent - no complaints. The sign outside amused me as well; I'd be happy to return.

Service was outstanding. They were also able to accommodate my dairy allergy without any problem. The gazpacho was delicious and the stone bass was cooked perfectly. We really enjoyed the selection of ice cream and sorbet after the meal. Portions will seem a little small by American standards, tho. We thought everything was perfectly prepared and elegantly served. We regret that we weren't able to linger with a cup of coffee or after dinner drink as we had to make our way to the Edinburgh Tattoo. Maybe next time. Service was always prompt and professional. We would definitely love to return.

I went for afternoon brunch in the form of eggs florentine and a clean and green juice. I loved the juice; it was fresh and zesty, and a great pick me up. - So good that I'd slurped up every sip before the arrival of food. Oops! The eggs florentine was a decent eggs on bread offering. Although I have to say I like my eggs runnier, and the Hollandaise could have been a little thicker. Still, that's a matter of preference and, with fresh smoked salmon on the side, this made for an adequate brunch. I've no real complaints in terms of service but our waiter had gone to get dessert menus for us and had forgotten and by that point, we'd had the chance to change our minds and resist the lure of the fruit scone. Also, it would have been nice to have been offered table water. Forth Floor was a-okay for brunch but I don't think it's got anything on the plethora of independent spots available in the city. For that reason, I think I'd opt for one of those next time.
