This place has been on my radar to try for a while and we finally decided to check it out. First off, the sushi here is incredible. Super fresh and colorful with amazing presentations. We tried the all-you-can-eat deal and some options off the regular menu too. For AYCE sushi, this was the best I've had in the area. AYCE isn't limited to sushi and there's a bunch of dishes you can try as well. For us, service was great. We went on a slow day for lunch and the entire experience was fantastic. I see there's some negative reviews about service, but that wasn't the case for us. Here's what we had: Crispy Calamari: 5/5 Hot, perfectly crispy, flavorful, large portion. Would definitely order again. Crab Rangoon: 4/5 Creamy and indulgent with the perfect crunch. For my taste, they were a bit on the sweet side but I'm sure others would love that. Then we ordered the dragon roll; elk avocado was delicious we added cream cheese made it even better, angry dragon roll; mango shrimp tempura such a good spicy sweet combo but didn't taste spicy at all, alligator roll; salmon avocado with crunch and ell was good, diamond roll; tuna salmon avocado with 3 kinds of caviar on top was my favorite roll simple but the caviar on top adds more taste. #1 Sushi - #1 is poor service, #1 in poor food, and #1 in Customer Dissatisfaction! We made the unfortunate mistake of going to #1 Sushi and the experience was unforgettable. We went on a Monday night, so nothing in the experience can be blamed on weekend volume. In fact, the restaurant was only 30% full - scary to think what happens on a Saturday! We were a table of 3, and we were given the standard sheets to fill out the all you can eat requests - 1 for the kitchen and 1 for sushi. We waiting a good 20 minutes before we got any food, and amazingly the sushi was ready before things like an Avocado salad. In fact, while we ordered shumai in our original kitchen request, and repeatedly asked if they could check on it, we never actually got any shumai during our entire meal. Overall, the 90 minute 'dinner' consisted of us getting some of our food, but waiting and waiting for kitchen food. We politely asked both waitresses where our other food was, and they would go in the back to check...and never heard anything else. We did get someone elses food, which we corrected, and later watched the table across from us get our food, which sat for 5 minutes until they could get the wateress attention to say it wasnt their food. We watched the waitress return the food back to the sushi station, and then brought to our table. We finally decided to leave, shumai-less, hungry and frustrated. After waiting for 10 minutes to get someone to come to our table, we got up and went to the register - that got their attention! The waitress asked "Was Everything OK" to which i said "No, not really". Did she ask why? Nope - she just preset the tip to 0% and we paid and left. And important note - #1 Sushi is #1 in Over Price! This whole experience was $5 more than most other places. So be warned - unless you are trying to diet - this is not the place for you. read more

During our past few visits, we have noticed a steep decline in both the quality and serving size of some of the food since the restaurant's opening. Service has always been a little "meh" but what kept us comung back was the food. For what is coming-out of that kitchen now, this restaurant is seriously over-charging and ripping-off its customers by steep drops in portion size and quality without an accompanying drop in pricing. I know it is difficult to meet profit margins in the restaurant business so I don't know whether or not this is an intentional attempt at cost-cutting. I DESPERATELY wanted to love this place as there are so few good sushi restaurants around the area. Experience started with what was supposed to be "crispy calamari" it came out as a pile of sautéed slimy red onions and underneath was freezer burnt chunks of octopus (side note, calamari is squid not octopus). Its taste and texture were so off putting that I should've left then. We tried 4 different sushi rolls and not one of them tasted good. I'm not sure what was more uncomfortable, the waiter who leaned on the bar and stared at us the entire meal or the man preparing the sushi picking and then blowing his nose right over the raw fish. No he did not wash his hands but I guess I should be thankful he did put gloves on after he blew in them to open them up (also over top the raw food). Tried some of the hibachi dishes but they were poor to average at best. A piece of katsu chicken looked and tasted like something from the walmart freezer. Not sure I will rush back and if i really want something like this it might be worth the drive to kirkwood highway for a better overall experience.
