USIT is the first port of call for student travelers but it's more than just a ticket agency. It…read moredeals with all international travel aspects for young travellers. It gives customers advice, sets them up with visas and rail passes and even administers travel vaccines. It is also responsible for the Work in Ireland Program, a program that helps foreign people adjust to their new city. All non-EU nationals participate in this program but it is most popular with Americans and Canadians. Another bonus: USIT has a resource room for participants so that they can use the internet and print for free. Next time you're planning an important trip, pop into USIT and one of the staff will be able to answer your many questions.

I'm writing this review from the perspective of a Canadian in Ireland on a working holiday visa…read more When I decided to come to move to Dublin on a working holiday visa I had the option of doing it myself (cheaper, but no support) or doing it through SWAP (a travel agency in Canada that partners with USIT here in Ireland). I chose the second route for the support, since I'd never done a working holiday visa/moved abroad. And while there isn't a language barrier between Canada and Ireland (there's Gaelic, but everyone in Dublin seems to speak English) and Ireland is a western country there are hurdles to moving abroad. And paperwork, so much paperwork. USIT is the local support team for the working abroad people (not just Canadians, but for anyone on a working holiday visa). They have an orientation session where they explain how to GNIB card (if you need one), how to get a PPS number, how to get your tax certificate, how to open a bank account and how to file taxes. They have job and apartment listings. There are computers, free wifi, and a printer, which is perfect for printing out the many many CVs you'll need. They can go over your CV and make sure it's formatted right, which was helpful because how CVs are formatted here are a bit different from how resumes are formatted where I'm from. They have interview rooms if you need someplace to do a Skype interview (instead of say doing on at the hostel you might be at). The organize different events for work abroad participants, which is a great way to meet people. Best of all there is someone, in person, during the office hours to talk to. And sure you could look online for the answers, but sometimes it's best to talk to someone in person. Sometimes you might be faced with a situation or a question that you can't find the answer to. As someone new to Dublin it's really nice having that support system and the people working at USIT have been fantastic. I can't speak for the travel agency part of USIT, which I'm sure is what most locals would use them for, but the work abroad support team here is great.

Unfortunately my number is now on this company's list and I get a call every day or so from…read moredifferent numbers. The simple tactic of switching outbound numbers to spoof caller ID blocking tells you everything you need to know about this company. The script they read from is designed to throw buzzwords at the listener, buttering you up, making you feel like you are so lucky to be provided with everything they're offering. If paying attention, each thing they do for you and offer to you either makes no sense or contradicts something assured earlier on the call. The way they transferred me to a manager (without me asking a single question) as part of the sales pitch was comical. As I started asking questions to better understand my options, so I could be an informed consumer making an intelligent choice in my best interest, the manager became progressively more confrontational until I laughed and hung up on him. They will collect all the information on you they can. They will take as much money from you as they can. They promise to send you information AFTER all of that. You will have nothing in writing, no proof of anything they say, until after you've authorized to give them access to your funds. I hope you are reading this because you have more sense than that when it comes to your finances. There are a few scary reviews via the Better Business Bureau as well.

They had scheduled his flight 2 days past when the visa would expire. This mistake caused him to come under scrutiny at the airport and he was not allowed to fly. The agency is not wanting to take any responsibility for their part in this matter. I would go elsewhere!

During the booking process for our honeymoon all of the agents we spoke to were very helpful and…read morefriendly, and the rates they were able to get us in resorts were better than those available on the websites, unfortunately they were not helpful once issues started to arise. We booked in January, following the advice from several agents we booked a new secrets resort in playa del Carmen opening in Feb, assuming by the time of our honeymoon in late April it would be 2 months open and we wouldn't have any issues. We noticed in Feb however that the opening date shifted to one day before our booking. Trailfinders didn't contact us to let us know, but I reached out to check that the resort would in fact be open and all facilities available, the agent told me that it would, that the date had been pushed to give them time to run a soft opening and be ready for guests by the time we arrived. This was not the case. We were some of the first guests to arrive at the hotel, which was not ready to be open. We experienced issues with almost every element of the resort experience, I'll list a few below but try stick to our Trailfinders experience for this review. (Water outages, power outages, elevators not working for 5-6 days, an 8 story drop right outside our door, staff leaving our room unlocked after cleaning, all facilities not being open, some of the site still under construction, serious queues despite the resort being at less than 50% capacity, and food poisoning/bacterial infection lasting several days - multiple reports of this.) I am aware it is not Trailfinders responsibility to have the resort functioning, but had their agent not lied to us and told us there would be a soft launch before we got there we would have made the decision to change to a different resort. Upon check in, we discovered that we had been booked in to a two bed room, and did not have the honeymoon package we signed up for (there was a note on our account saying we were on our honeymoon, but not on the honeymoon package - champagne reception, spa treatments, private dinner on a beach and a few other benefits). We called Trailfinders to try to have this rectified, the next day the hotels concierge service met with me and told me everything had been sorted. Another day passed without hearing anything so I called the concierge and was once again told we were not on the honeymoon package, we called Trailfinders again, who said that they were told everything was sorted but they would call us again the next day to make sure everything was in order. We have yet to receive any more communication from them 2 weeks later. I'd say in all at least an entire day of our trip was spent following up with the hotel concierge and calling Trailfinders, at no point did either of them actively engage us or try to solve the issues without being prompted. We spent the final few days of our honeymoon in another resort, this resort required us to get a boat of Isla Mujeres off Cancun, Trailfinders were supposed to provide this resort with our information so they could book this for us. Luckily after our issue with the first booking I had got in touch with them to make sure everything was booked, in this resort we found out that we were not booked in to the room type the Trailfinders agent had told us, but didn't bother trying to rectify it and chose to enjoy our final few days instead. Overall we felt very let down by Trailfinders during this whole process. In the lead up to the trip everyone was super helpful, there were some issue with the booking which could easily have been remedied while we were out there, but when we needed assistance during the trip it wasn't there. I had recommended the service to several friends getting married soon prior to our experience, and have since advised them against it. Won't be using the service again.

Friends and family are shocked every time we tell them of our experience. In a difficult time like 2020 Trailfinders preferred to keep our money instead of helping us finding a solution to help their customers. I have never experienced such bad customer care before. Now that travel is slowly resuming my advise is...STAY AWAY FROM TRAILFINDERS, and if you can book your own flights, hotels etc directly.
