We use NJM for our Home insurance policy and my wife uses NJM for her Auto insurance. Last month(12/22/18), I purchased a car and took this opportunity to switch my Car insurance from AAA to NJM Auto Insurance so that all of our Home and Auto insurance are under NJM. We were informed that our insurance would be $920 for my wife's car(2014 subaru crosstrek) and $1120(2019 Subaru Outback Limited), our car salesman talked to NJM the day we bought my car to insure that they know all of the safety features of the car. Today 1/2/19, I went to check our Policy online to setup the payments since we received an NJM packet last week that only contained my wife's insurance policy at her old rate before I was added. So I called NJM to verify the amount of our policy and the representative I spoke to mentioned that it changed from $920/1120 to $992/1173. He said that the previous rep should not have confirmed the previous values since there was a 4% rate increase for the new year. He then put me on hold to research if there are any other factors that raised our rate. After about 5 minutes, he reiterated the 4% increase and brought up my no point violation from March 2016. If I knew they would do this I would have stuck with my previous insurance for my car. read more

They will claim they never got your emails--LIKE THEIR PROPERTY DAMAGE ADJUSTER LAWRENCE SMITH CLAIMS HE NEVER RECEIVED, DESPITE THE EMAILS BEING IN MY SENT BOX AND MY LAWYER RECEIVED THEM WHEN I BCC'D THEM!!! Then their bodily injury adjuster lied to my lawyer and said they were working on my claim last week just to say yesterday they never spoke to my lawyer! They low ball you on your total vehicle loss claim and offer a joke of a settlement and change the dates of your rental car reservation without even telling you!!! STAY AWAY FROM THIS INSURANCE COMPANY! Their adjusters are incompetent! I plan on sharing my nightmare experience on EVERY platform and I will upload proof of their nonsense as well. You're better off just taking them to court and reporting them to your local government for not following the laws of uninsured motorists claims. They used to be great, very nice and spoke nicely to you., I just recently had to do a claim. The reps never pick up the calls always wants you to leave a message, they call back, if they do, the next day. It took 14 days for them to inform me about the car evaluation. I keep chasing them to get information and speak to my reps. And if I am frustrated I get an attitude from the reps. Very unprofessional and so unsympathetic. read more

Two years in a row they jacked me. Last year it was $100, this year $200. I had to drop full coverage to liability just to service. I'm on disability with a strict budget and if I didn't go on liability just to make ends meet. For 42 years I've been a customer, they are going to price me out. I'm currently looking to drop them. They are a disgrace. For 42 years the price never went up by more than 1% a year and now they whack me for a 33% increase in one year. In-fucking-acceptable! I've never had a speeding ticket or an accident in 42 FUCKING YEARS!!!! Why am I paying for bad drivers? I kept up my end of the bargain and can say I've spent tens of thousands paying these people for 42 YEARS and they put this on my back. I just reported a hit and run and they refuse to run an insurance check so I can get the other person's insurance company information bc i don't have collision coverage. Mind you i'm not asking them to go after anyone on my behalf I'm simply asking them to help me get the information.They used to be a great company but have been consistently going downhill. They insure our cars and our house. While the homeowners insurance is very good, they are cooperative and really look to help the homeowner, the automobile insurance is great, unless you have a claim that they can't subrogate. If you actually have a claim that they would need to pay out, they will fight you tooth and nail to avoid paying off the claim. They absolutely refuse to settle and will actually take you to trial to avoid paying your claim. read more

I had a leak in my daughter's bedroom, NJM was fast in response time. An adjuster was at my house in less then 24 hours to assess the damage. He provided his contact information and has been easy to reach. I've been a customer for over 25 years, and this has been my first claim. I am a long-time NJM customer with almost zero claims. When I called NJM to arrange a windshield replacement for my car, I pressed #1 and my call was automatically forwarded to a Safelite representative in Arizona. Oddly, she did not even know that I was a NJM customer. After being frustrated by her lack of knowledge, she forwarded me to a NJM customer service representative, who then passed me on to third and then a fourth. The last representative was sympathetic to my concerns and advised me of my options. With her assistance, I ultimately made an appointment with Safelite, in Pine Brook, NJ for an OEM windshield replacement. When I arrived for my appointment, they did not have a record of promising an OEM part and offered me an aftermarket replacement. I rejected that offer and consider it to be a "Bait and Switch" tactic, that I found offensive and dishonest. I then brought my car to a Ford dealership, and it was repaired for $735.00, which was less than my $1,000.00 deductible. I cancelled my claim, and I am not happy. NJM should never forward any claim call to third party without full disclosure to its customer. read more

After numerous mail solicitations I decided to consider NJM and paid them a visit last week. I was prepared and brought with me a recent declarations page from both home and auto insurance for an apple to apples comparison. I am currently insured by an A rated company, my wife and I have no points or violations on my record and no accidents for three decades save a minor bumper mishap by my son. First, I had to wait for almost half an hour to see a rep. The first question she asked me was if I had committed insurance fraud the last 5 years. What a thing to ask a prospective customer! Then, she told me their rates for our home would be higher. OK. When it came to our auto insurance I was told I would be charged high because I was got a ticket for not having my license with me on the premise that I did something chargeable and the cop probably gave me a break. Ridiculous. Lastly, she did not know how to read the declarations page and told me my son was not rated properly. She had to get help from another rep to figure it out. From the tenor of the interview I got the strong impression that these people are geared to get as high premiums as they can get. Oh, and she was supposed to email me quotes I never received. It's been a week. Perhaps years ago this was a good insurer, based on my experience they are terrible. I'm sorry I wasted my time. read more

LiLet me start off by saying we've been with NJM for many years. My wife has had NJM car insurance for more than 40 years! Over the years, we have a few auto claims, which were all handled immediately and completely to our satisfaction. 10 years ago we bought our current home and didn't hesitate to insure it with NJM. Are they the cheapest? No, but their customer service and claims have always been phenomenal. But, NJM is no longer the same insurance company if was 10 years ago. If you compare reviews today to older reviews, they're drastically different. Last year we were renewing our homeowners insurance. They have a program where you can have the premiums deducted from your checking account over 10 months, which is pretty nice. Upon renewal, I had $30 due then the upcoming premium. Not sure what the $30 was for, but no problem, I just signed up for the auto-pay. A month later I received a bill for the upcoming premium, + a past due notice for the $30. I immediately called to find out what was going on and they said the auto-pay didn't go through and my insurance was being dropped due to the past due $30. No notice, nothing! Remember, 10 years homeowners and 40 years car insurance and they're dropping me for $30 with no notice! I wasn't happy, but we worked it out (paid the premium in full + the $30) and they sent me a letter saying congratulations, we're reinstating your policy. In December, I received a pamphlet from NJM stating they now have an endorsement for all major appliances and another for utility lines. The pamphlet SPECIFICALLY states the insurance is underwritten and insured buy NJM. Excited that I could get this coverage by a company I've been happy with (besides the one glitch) I called to verify the coverage was by NJM and they would cover my appliances, since they are 20 years old. Yup and yup, so I signed up thinking how great it was to get this coverage by a reputable company. Well, a few weeks ago, my central air went out. It could not be repaired, so I called NJM to start a claim, explaining that I had to replace the unit. She took my information and told me someone from Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance would contact me. When I asked why, she told me the insurance was underwritten by them. Wait, what? NJM specifically told me THEY (or their subsidiaries, which HSB is not) underwrote and insured the policy! Not feeling good about this, I called hsb. Had to leave a message. Next day left another message. Adjuster called when I couldn't answer the phone so I left another message. One day I left two messages and the adjuster called and said not to do that. Sigh. Anyway, look up the yelp reviews on hsb. They are a typical home warrantee scam business that is glad to take your money and will never pay a claim. Of course they denied my claim too. I am totally shocked that NJM would do business with a company like that. Furthermore, I feel that NJM defrauded me by telling me they provide the coverage when, in fact, they do not. I just renewed my homeowners and noticed that for these endorsements hsb is listed on the bottom of the page (in tiny letters) bug nowhere does it state they provided the coverage. Amy D, please don't bother responding to this unless you can assure me you are going to refund me the premium I paid for the endorsement. I've had NJM auto insurance for almost 10 years now and they've been great. Best rates I could get in NJ. I had one claim a year ago and my choice of auto body shop was one of their approved facilities so the auto body shops estimate was the only estimate they needed. No need to wait on a claims adjuster to look at vehicle. I just recently added homeowners insurance which was a smooth easy process. Having auto and home results in additional savings on already great rates. If you are eligible to join through your employer, association, or family member I definitely recommend that you check them out! read more

We have had homeowners through NJM for seven years and I wouldn't go anywhere else. Our home has had so many leaks over the years and from soup to nuts this company is responsive and helpful. From the first call to make the claim, and the amazing adjusters especially Gino, Jay and James, come out RIGHT away, they understand that they are meeting you on your WORST days. I'm usually in tears and an emotional mess, and they make me feel like they care and help us get put back together quickly. My entire family has been using NJM, so as a teacher, when I became eligible I was "proud" to be an NJM customer. Fast forward to when I was in the wrong place at the wrong and was rear ended on a major highway. Luckily I wasn't hurt. The next accident occured 9 months later when a man ran a stop sign. Airbags deployed, but I was lucky to be ok. In both cases, working with my customer representatives was a nightmare. In the second accident my car was deemed a total loss and I was happy when the process was over and I was able to move on from the laborious process. When September rolled around as my month of policy renewal, my PREMIUM increased $1,100!!!!! Until recently, I didn't fully realize that my policy premium changed due to an oversight because of my reoccurring auto payment. I am now in the process of trying to find out why. Did the claims representative drop the ball in going after the other driver? I did everything I was asked to do. I obtained the police reports and answers all questions. I was told to not speak to Progressive directly.. that NJM would take care of it. I am now wondering if that was where I went wrong-- having confidence in NJM and their claim representatives. When I inquired about the increase, I was told by the policy representatives I reached out to the other day that NJM had to put out 12,000 dollars so that is why I have an increase. She was not sure why this would have happened and directed me to the claims department for answers which I have yet to receive. I am beyond frustrated-- I feel lucky to be alive-- and these accidents were completely NOT my fault, so why am I paying $299 a month.. $2,882 dollars a year instead of $1,707 which was a lot to begin with?!?! Isn't NJM suppose to make sure this doesn't happen? Were they too lazy to pursue the other insurance? I am still trying to find out answers as I have been paying this ungodly price for 8 months. I am so upset and beyond frustrated. I am STILL waiting for answers. If you are coming to NJM for customer service, you should stay away. No one should be paying $299 dollars a month ( MORE than my lease payment!) that has a CLEAN driving record.. no one. read more

Great rates but services are slow and delivery methods are outdated. It is taking 7-10 business days to process an update to a policy to produce a declaration page which can only be sent via US mail. I WOULD PAY MORE FOR UPDATED SERVICES. read more

They just collect money for the sake of showing you have coverage but when it comes time to do their job they completely drop the ball. Geico is cheaper in a lot of instances. Sadly, my interaction with New Jersey Manufacturers insurance company was a poor one. My home was burglarized and many items were stolen. The adjuster did come out promptly and was somewhat responsive to our loss. He advised that because I did not have a jewelry rider I would only receive the policy max for jewelry. Fair enough. I have replacement coverage and felt good about purchasing that. After submitting the claim, the adjuster informed me replacement coverage is not really, what a layperson would think. It only covers the item if you replace it. For example, we had a PlayStation 3 stolen. We paid 299.99 for it. They decide the item can now be purchased for 99.99. I am not happy that I am not getting what I paid but if that is the replacement cost so be it. Well not really, they then come up with a random number, decide to reduce the replacement number (they came up with) by an additional 40%, and paid 59.99. I tried to reason with them but only option was to go to arbitration at my expense. read more

I am NJM Home and Auto insurance for more than 15 years. During the wind storm, a large limb of the tree felt on my neighbor's truck. My neighbor demanded me to remove the tree because the wind was blowing over 70 miles/hour and to remove the debris of the fallen large limb. Otherwise, I would be responsible for all the consequences, including the life and any further property damages. I called the NJM customer service. She advised me to do whatever I could to prevent further damages. I also read the policy that it mentioned to do anything to prevent further damages. It was Sunday. I hired tree company to cut down the tree. Now, NJM denied my claim for the cost of cutting down the tree, because there was no further damages. NJM just wanted your insurance premium. NJM just told you to prevent damages, and there was no further damages, so NJM does not have to pay anything. I should give NJM 'ZERO' Star, but it is not available here. Service is important, but refuse to pay for the claim is even more important. Why are we buying insurance??? Think before you join NJM. Thanks. read more
