Nipomo Sushi is the best! Chill, friendly and relaxed local vibe with fresh quality fish and ingredients. Great value. Try the Nipomo roll to be impressed !

Ok, where to start. This quaint sushi restaurant is in an Ace Hardware and Starbucks parking lot. So I wasn't sure what to expect. My husband and I are always looking for good or hopefully great places to eat. Still fairly new to the area, so many restaurants to try, so many to go! We love sushi. But it needs to be quality and FRESH.. Well, this restaurant has hit the mark for both marks. And that's because of Scott, the amazing Sushi chef. He is so warm and friendly, his sushi is amazing. The service is really coming along too. Apparently we have slipped into the "regulars" category. Our predinner drinks, etc are already known..... That's good, right? Anyhow, check this little treasure out. Tell Scott I said hiya! He will treat you well. Kampai!

The food here is so good! It's such an underrated small place and somehow has such wonderful food and employees. All of the employees are super nice and inviting. The sushi chef was a delight to talk with very funny man. They seem to genuinely care about their customers and it makes the place feel all the more inviting! All the girls there are such a delight, my server was so sweet and helpful with me, she had lots of personality and I love a good server. Food is to die for, the best sushi i've ever had, definitely my new favorite spot to enjoy some fish. The fish tastes unreal, so clean and smooth, and extremely fresh. 10/10 recommend this place. All of it overall was a great experience:).

Sushi chef is amazing! Chill vibe, great service, and honestly some of the best rolls I've had in a long time. The sushi was so fresh and full of flavor. Happy to have a great sushi joint close to home. Will be back soon!

Baked Salmon Roll

My husband and I went to try out Nipomo Sushi for lunch since we had never been there. It is very nice and clean inside. The wait staff is very nice and personable as well as attentive. We ordered the Calamari Tempura to start. It came out quickly with a nice sauce on the side. They were large sticks and were so good! Nice and crispy but tasted fresh. For lunch I ordered the Baked Salmon Roll which came out fairly quickly as well. It was delicious! In the roll it had the baked salmon on top of the rice, cucumber, avocado and seaweed. My husband ordered the teriyaki chicken bowl and enjoyed his as well. I am looking forward to going back and trying other things on the menu! Will definitely be back!

Spicy albacore roll

As usual, Scott prepared delicious sushi. I had a spicy albacore roll that was one of the specials. It was delicious and just spicy enough to be pleasant and not painful. He prepared an order of halibut sushi and suggested I not use any soy sauce. Just a little ginger. He was right! So good. Service was attentive, keeping my water glass full. I finished with a rice-free roll based on cucumber. Super good! Scott then made me a little "dessert", seared tuna and great sauce. It's a nice, quiet spot to enjoy fantastic sushi. Ignore the bad reviews which pre-date Scott taking over.

Salmon, albacore, tuna nigiri

Nipomo Sushi knocked it out of the ball park this evening. My wife and I sat at the bar with Chef Scott and shared some good conversation before digging in. The restaurant was mostly empty when we arrived but began to fill up shortly after. Our rolls were fresh and delicious. Scott made a roll for a table that we asked about and with some convincing, we ended up with a Spicy Albacore roll. It was very refreshing and had a sweet kick that came on at the end of each bite. We will be back for another round of the spicy albacore!

Sashimi special

Get the baked lobster roll or any of the rolls that have scallop. If you're wanting something else, the rice teriyaki is also excellent.

We watched her make & serve drinks with lighting speed, even serving food as well. This lady needs a raise! Second, the food was delicious, perhaps the best ribeye I have ever had in my 51 years. My wife and I shared a 16 oz spencer steak with baked potato, and chicken with ravioli and fries. They came with beans, side salad with the best ranch dressing ever! Of course, we could not come close to finishing all the food and had to ask for our included ice cream to go. Lucky, we had a room in Santa Maria with a big fridge and freezer. After our vodka soda and food coma wore off, we enjoyed our malted crunch ice cream in our room and finished our meal the next day. The smokey flavor of the steak and chicken was amazing. We will be going back very soon. Truth be told, I am getting hungry just writing this review.

We got super excited! With that, don't waste your time on this, go to Orcut to Far Western Tavern so much nicer, friendlier and just overall better experience for similar food. Reservations were for 7:15pm and we arrived at 7:05, were told not to crazy busy just hang out. Managed to find 2 seats at the end of the bar and were served pretty quickly. We don't typically mind a busy place and eating at the bar so I asked my husband if he just wanted to eat there. My seat was at the end and they kept puking up dirty glasses so I wasn't crazy for it but saw everyone else eating at the bar. He said no... Our bartender was attentive and also asked after we had been there maybe 20 minutes and we still said no. We finally got seated for our 7:15pm reservation at 8:30pm. Our server kept coming by telling us she'd be right with us, this happened about 5 times. We waited and waited for service. I got to over hear both our waitress and the others great others and go over specials etc. Ours never really seemed to know if they were actually out of something, she'd say I think. When offering ice cream her list was different from the other waitresses. All this before we got to order. We decided to get the big Ribeye and share but not add on the shared plates. Waitress recommended extra salad so did that. So glad as we didn't need an extra set of sides as everything was larger portions. Salad was basic; bug cuts of iceberg lettuce shredded carrots and one sliced beet on top, with watered down ranch. Main course took forever to arrive; baked potato had all fixings yet was dry. The Ribeye was tough and chewy. I enjoyed the beans and bread dipped in them; funny since I don't really like beans. The hubs who does like beans said they tasted burnt. We finally left at 10pm! It was so ridiculously slow! Don't think I could get the hubs to even try it again. Very disappointed. We tried so many times to eat there and waited and waited in their tiny hallway. At least this time the host and bartender was friendly unlike previous times.

The Asahi arrived in a frozen mug, which made it even more refreshing. All the flavors and textures worked perfectly together. The nine-piece sashimi was beautifully presented and incredibly fresh. For dessert, we had the tempura ice cream and the green tea cheesecake--both were absolutely delicious. Honestly, everything we ordered was fantastic. Our servers, Jasmine and Austin, truly killed it. They were friendly, attentive, and genuinely engaged throughout the meal. The restaurant itself had great lighting and décor, was spotless and well-maintained, even down to the restrooms. Parking was plentiful and free. Probably one of the most expensive sushi places I've been to. $14 for a Cali hand roll. It was large and the rice had an odd sweet flavor to it? Wasn't a fan. I got the tonkatsu ramen. Only meat, onion, and added tofu. It said it would come with slices but it came with chunks of pork that was boiled.. I wanted the slices. The ramen itself was alright. The gyoza/potstickers were good. Probably my favorite. $9 side of kimchi... it was pretty good. Sadly I don't think I'll be back with these prices.

However, we were told that egg wasn't available at the moment and so we weren't able to taste that and saved an extra $2.50 off our bill (expensive for just one egg). We were told that since they just opened, the food would take longer than expected (roughly around 15-20 minutes). However, to our surprise it came in 10 minutes! Now for the food review, it was okay. The ramen was bland and not spicy at all. I had let the server know that it wasn't spicy as was promised and expected and if we could have some spice to add onto it. He came back with a little side of just chili oil, this was a regretful addition because we later found out that it's an additional $1.50 for such a small amount of chili oil, ridiculous. I don't think I'll be returning due to surge in additional prices that we were not aware of and the fact that the food wasn't good.
