Got takeout the other day. I ordered the bbq beef with bbq short ribs. The seasoning was good and the portion size is huge. I got it with rice and extra veggies. The beef ribs were a little burnt but still very tender and good. I also ordered a Hawaiian bbq chicken mini meal with fried rice and veggies. The rice was just soy sauce with very little toppings for fried rice; it was more like seasoned rice, but still good. The portion size was huge again; very generous on meat serving. Stopped by for drinks and snacks for the road back home from Pismo Beach. The restaurant is located in a shopping center; ample parking nearby. It was clean with indoor seating; has cute boba and island themed decor. Decided on spam musubi and bbq pork buns, which to my husband would be easy to eat while he drove. Ordered via the kiosk that was near the register/counter. Employee was friendly and delivered our order to our table within a few minutes. The food was fine. Each Hawaiian bbq place seems to do their specialties a bit differently, and that's what probably makes them unique. I ordered the katsu chicken and bbq beef combo. Compared to other places I definitely liked this beef, it has a good thickness to it. Katsu chicken was fine. No complaints. Macaroni salad was fine too. Even though they have a few tables and chairs indoors, the place isn't really conducive to indoor dining if you're wanting a full sit down dining experience (my 2 cents). It appears most will order takeout. But there is some outdoor seating that works well on a nice evening like this particular visit. The one downside is that while placing my order on their ordering kiosk, it asked me for a tip before checkout. Um....this was before a single worker had even spoken to me. So I didn't know what the tip was for.....use of the kiosk maybe? Even after that I was handed the food without the employee saying anything to me. My mango tea and milk tea boba were delicious. Perfectly balanced flavors, fresh, and high quality. However, the rest of my meal was lacking. I also ordered a Thai tea boba. It was really gross. I've had my fair share of Thai tea (my husband is Thai). But this Thai tea had a bitter, sour taste. Almost like if it burned when it was brewed, or had gone bad. I gave it to someone else to try and they agreed. I asked for a refund and thankfully they obliged. The other food was alright. The meat (teriyaki chicken and Korean short ribs) were decent enough. The short ribs were too fatty and greasy. And the steamed vegetable plate for my vegan guest came out refrigerator cold. Pros: clean restaurant. Attentive staff. Cons: food is okay. I really enjoyed my Meal. I got the Hawaiian chicken combo with one scoop of fried rice, macaroni and kimchi. I really enjoyed all of it. I had read another comment that mentioned that the kimchi didn't taste like kimchi. I have to say it was unlike other normally more fermented kimchi, however, I think their version has a less fermented and fresher taste. Pry a lot more appealing to those not used to most others stronger tasting kimchis. My boyfriend got the teriyaki chicken and katsu combo with 2 scoops of white rice and a scoop of the mac. He felt like the panko chicken wasn't cooked long enough (not as crispy as he'd like) but the katsu sauce was pretty good. Worth a try for sure. read more

The location is easy to find within Crossroads Shopping Center next to Wally World (aka Walmart). The place was clean. The kiosk to order your food is a plus. The prices were reasonable. The selection of smoothies, boba teas, and appetizers were decent. I take off two stars for two things. I ordered the combo plate with BBQ chicken and Short Ribs. Both meats were very salty for me. I know other love really salty flavors. Not me. They offered soy sauce packets on the side too and there was no way I using those! I think both meats had been drowned in them. If they were not so salty, I think it would be so much better and then people can add soy sauce if they live in Salty, USA. The other star was the kimchi. Was that kimchi? It looked like kimchi but it lacked the spice and fermentation of kimchi. It looks like they work hard here. The food came out in decent time. The server was friendly. Lots of good things here. With some modifications, this place would step out of the slow lane and into the fast one. It is called 101 for a reason. I wish them well. read more

The food was hot and there was a lot. The Katsu was crispy and not greasy. The Shrimp was a little over battered for me but was still good. Now the Mac salad they got it down excellent taste. The garlic chicken reminded me of "popcorn chicken" and had a nice sweet glaze. Portions are huge and can probably be shared if you aren't overly hungry. The combos come with 2 scoops of rice and a choice or salad/Mac salad or kimchi. I also scored a complimentary Thai tea with my first online purchase. It was a nice touch. We had enjoyed going there in the past but we went there a week or 2 ago. The menu had changed - and for the worst. Also, maybe the cooks had changed too because the foods we ordered were not good. Two of us ordered chicken piccata. It was not that at all. We received a huge chunk of chicken - breaded with a fried chicken type of breading & deep fried to the point it was like shoe leather. There was a piccata sauce (?) on the side that was so sour & salty it was inedible. The waitress was incredible - but another person came to the table to " argue " with one of our guests who received chicken that was so hard & dry she couldn't cut it. Finally the waitress offered to bring a piece of grilled chicken to her - again, not piccata, but very nice of her to try to soothe things over. I got a Passion Fruit Iced tea with lychee jelly and the sweetness of the iced tea went well with the kalbs short rib plate. The workers were nice but it did take quite a while for the food to come out, maybe about 30 minutes. Kimchi was ok but I think it's homemade it was not the typical Napa cabbage just the regular cabbage in the kimchi. I do love their digital ordering kiosk. I happened to be using the restroom when the order came out and I vaguely heard my daughter getting upset at my son. Saw a sign at Crossroads in Santa Maria about a soft opening for 101 Grill so stopped by there to pick up lunch. Located where Dickies used to be, near Gamestop. Very interesting menu, with a traditional cheeseburger with fries, along with Japanese items such as pork katsu, chicken gyoza and Korean with a side of kimchi. They very delicious hamburger is $8.50 with a huge side of julienne fries which were also very good. Bought 2 of the burgers, along with the cheesy beef croquette with 2 sides ($9.25), and a free order of the chicken gyoza due to the grand opening, all for less than $29 out the door. Besides rice and kimchi, you can also get potato or macaroni salad as the sides. read more

Just tried this place for the first time. Used their online order for pick up and it was very convenient. Food is reasonably priced especially for the amount that you get. I got the mini plate of chicken katsu. Food is definitely good, but the main reason I decided to write this review is because of the honeydew iced tea. It has EASILY become one of the top 5 favorite drinks I've ever had lol I got it at 75% sweetness. The honeydew and tea is so fragrant and strong and it's the perfect amount of sweetness. I saw 101 Grill on my trip to the FedEx store and wanted to try it. When I decided to go on Sunday, I learned they were closed. Oh well, that's fine, I went on Labor Day Monday instead. The place was clean. They had a water dispenser and cups set out which was great. I only wished the water had ice or was chilled. It took us a minute or two to place our order at the self-service kiosk. In hindsight, I probably should have asked questions about the meals or placed my order at the counter. Our food came out in a timely manner and off we went. I wouldn't dare leave the parking lot without first tasting my food. The portion was very large (teriyaki chicken). I got mine with two scoops of rice and a side of vegetables. I wish I had selected three scoops of rice and no veggies because the veggies were in no way comparable to the small scoops of rice. More rice was definitely needed for the amount of chicken and the sauciness of it. It was a little salty for my liking and was dry, as if it had been sitting under the heat lamp too long. All in all, I'm glad I gave them a try, but don't think I will be returning. My son enjoyed his smoothie. read more

We are in town for the holiday weekend and we're running errands in Santa Maria. I told the husband since it is National Burger Day, we should get "real" burgers for dinner. This place was in the top 5 Yelp recommendations. When husband saw the Korean food on the menu, he became disinterested but I was more intrigued, so I insisted. We both ordered a cult classic burger.
