I had only had takeout from the Alamosa location prior to visiting the Monte Vista restaurant. So I went in with the expectation that the food would be fantastic. The inside is nice though nothing too spectacular. It was nice and clean and definitely a place you don't mind visiting. The surface was quick and friendly with just the right amount of attention given. I ordered the burger plate choosing the tortilla option. The highlight of the dish was definitely the green chili that was smothering everything. It went especially well with the fries. I am giving them a solid four stars but if we could do half stars, I would give them 4 1/2. Definitely worth a stop if you're in Monte Vista and craving good Mexican food. read more

Went today for the first time. Ordered two tacos with rice and beans. Within 2 minutes or less I had my food. I like tacos with hot tortillas that they fry up for you. These were store bought cold shells. I'm still burping up my food. I was not greeted properly just told to sit anywhere, the worker never stood up from sitting in the back of the restaurant. This little place off the main highway had bus parking next block away, we called ahead and reserved a room off the main entrance, waiter was excellent and had many Togo orders and still got our bus load of kiddos fed in record time, I opted to try their crispy Chile relleno as I am a big fan! When I go there again I will try their stacked enchiladas or the nino's burritos which where huge! read more

Great staff and authentic Mexican food. My son and I are traveling this summer and ended up in monte vista as a logical stop in driving time. We didn't quite realize how small of a city it is, but it's tiny. (A one horse town, as we were stuck in traffic behind a horse. The food here was very authentic, actually some of he best I've had in some time. The prices were incredibly reasonable. Worst place to eat. Had some guy too lazy to pick up his pants. I ordered mild and he served me hot. I asked for red chili but he didn't say it was hot. When I hit him up he said most children can eat it. Then he threw me out. Sure most children can eat it. I have stomach problems. He didn't try to fix it, we got charged for something I couldn't eat or he didn't let me eat cause he threw me out like a dog. The other girl there told him to stop but he continued. Taking a long weekend in Monte Vista and really wanted a dine in place. Decided to give Nino's a try, and so glad we did. My wife had the crispy relleno and enchilada and was pleasantly surprised (she is really picky about her rellenos). Went for lunch, menu is affordable. Half the tables were occupied, most other tables hadn't been cleared or cleaned. As I absentmindedly ate my chips, got a mouthful of an 18 inch long hair. Used my only napkin to extract it from my mouth. Got the waiter's attention, explained that I needed chips replaced with some napkins. No verbal response; he seemed annoyed when I showed him the hair. He left my water cup empty, walked past me six times. Had to ask again for napkins, water, and chips. After delivering those items, dropped off my meal and never returned to my table. While eating he then sprayed bleach water directly on table behind me. He should have sprayed it into a cloth, but no! A cloud of bleach wafted into the air over me, my table, and my food. I became nauseated from inhaling bleach. Had to stop eating. Waiter is indifferent, unaware, and seemingly doesn't care about his job, quality of service, or dining experience. I will not return to Niño's in Monte Vista. read more

Passing through stopped here to eat. Very nice and very clean with great service. I think that is why this stays at a 4 star, because without that I would probably be around a three. My steak tacos were extremely good. Everyone at the table seemed to enjoy their main dishes. The Monte Vista Nino's has a similar menu as the Alamosa location, but the dining room is a bit tired. Service was friendly and the green chili sauce was just as good as at their flagship restaurant in Alamosa. The sopapilla sundae is perfect for sharing and is unique with a wine sauce. read more

The salsa is a watered down Italian tasting sauce, the ice tea is often, well, water with a tad of tea flavoring, and the food is more "blah" than "wow"! In a town that doesn't offer that much to locals or passers-through, this is really a first-rate restaurant. The food is delicious and the service is friendly and quick. It's always full of locals and you can tell from the interaction with the waitstaff that it's a happy place. It's also unbelievably cheap: enchilada plate for $4 and some change? Unheard of! I have been patronizing this establishment since they opened, however, in the last few years the service has become intolerable. If you are a single customer and you sit in the section next to the front door your chances of getting noticed are not very good. The last several times that I have gone to eat there I have had to get up from my seat to ask for a waiter or waitress to assist me. Yesterday was the last straw for me. I sat in the section I mentioned above and had two waitstaff look at me and walk away. In the case of the male server, he came into that section at least twice and still I was not acknowledged so I just walked out and will not be returning.
