One of the reasons I looked forward to my visit was because he did his residency at my alma mater Northwestern University and I feel confident I'm in good hands. One of his many specialties is sports medicine and musculoskeletal system injuries. My fingers are crossed that he can get me on my feet again so I can toss my stupid Walker in a dumpster, travel again, and get my life back. He ordered an MRI of my left hip so he can assess the severity of the labrum tear. The tear is very painful and debilitating to say the least. It's kept me from traveling, visiting restaurants and museums, and enjoying my life. The staff at this facility were welcoming and helpful. The place was packed and bustling with activities. Despite this, I only waited 10 minutes before hobbling to the exam room. The MRI will take place on 10/3; I will return to Dr. V's office on 10/11 for the verdict: arthroscopic surgery or a hip replacement. My fingers are crossed that it's an arthroscopy. Stay tuned for the next episode...

At the time of check in, the lady at the desk said it would be "a wait".....later she started defining how long it would be for others saying "30 mins" or "40 mins" but these folks were after me - so I thought for sure it cannot be that long for me. Wrong I was - 1 hour time wasted. The front desk ladies say "we can't do anything" or "we are just the messengers" - I understand that however, you are also the problem - identify the problem of long waits....raise it up - do something about it. The real problem is people who find this acceptable and just lift their arms up and say "sorry can't do anything". Change can always happen. Improvements can always happen.

On October 6th, 2014 I walked into Northwest Oncology and met with Dr. Bruce Bank. He diagnosed…read morewith Stage 4 Breast Cancer that metastasized to the bone and stated that there is no known cure for bone cancer, but there is hope to slow it and when I asked him if I was going to die, he told me that he wasn't preparing me for a casket. In the days that followed i sat down with a friend of a friend who was battling Breast Cancer as well and asked her how do I pick a doctor, her response, "Find someone who is capable of making you believe you are capable of living because you will die with them." Ultimately I would meet with another oncologist at a top rated hospital to get the second opinion just to put my mind at ease and the treatment method came back as the same. I decided to stay with Northwest Oncology for treatment because my Oncologist and his staff made me believe that I was capable of living with cancer, which is ultimately what I am doing because there is no known cure. To my Oncologist, I'm not just a number, I am a person and I matter. Most people dread going to the oncologist, I love it because while these people see the worst of the worst, they smile at you, remember your name and they treat you like your human. When things don't feel right, they take me serious and their goal is to keep you living as long as possible. I can be honest with my Oncologist knowing that he won't make me feel like it's nothing. Everything I say is heard and it's amazing to know that no matter what happens, he's always got my back. This being said, a year ago I could barely walk and my family, friends, and employer were afraid of losing me. A year later, I'm walking normally, living in my dream home that I purchased a day before I hit 8 months of diagnosis and LIVING with cancer. Cancer tried to stop me, but thanks to Dr. Bruce Bank and his amazing team, we've found the solutions to the problems that have made living with cancer easier. Lastly, there is also this misconception about where you get treated and that some locations aren't as good as others. I'm here to put that to rest with Northwest Oncology. While it's Northwest Oncology, don't let the name fool you, the Oncologists communicate with multiple hospitals. For example: my Oncologist communicates with Oncologists from Loyola, to Northwestern, to UIC, etc. The Oncologists at Northwest Oncology are constantly looking for new treatments to help their patients. I've never seen a group of doctors so motivated to help their patients live than I have here. These Doctors are always going to conferences, learning about new drugs, speaking with companies that create the drugs needed for cancer patients. They are always keeping an eye out for studies that may better assist patients. So please remember that you can't judge a book simply by it's name because if you do, you may be missing the best part of what is in the pages.

Yelping my oncologist? You bet!! 5 stars!!…read more I was diagnosed a year ago with a rare and aggressive sarcoma that unfortunately doesn't have the best outcomes. When I got home from the hospital I immediately hired a Cancer Navigator out of UCLA to find out where to go for oncology care. She did some research and gave me 4 names of oncologists in the USA who specialize in this stupidly rare cancer. I was thrilled to see one doctor- Dr. Mark Agulnik- practices in Chicago!!! At Northwestern. Dr. Agulnik and Northwestern were, at the time, out-of-network for me, but I didn't care. The expertise is completely worth it, and fun news is they are now in-network with my insurance plan. So I'm set! On January 14th, I celebrated a year of being tumor-free, "no evidence of disease", and I am so grateful to Dr. Agulnik, PA Sue, Nurse Elka, Bianca at Registration, and the whole team up on the 21st floor in Heme/Oncology! Well done, everyone!! I am sooooooo lucky to live near Chicago and Northwestern Hospital. And I'm so lucky that Dr. Agulnik and his fantastic team are able to manage my case. I'm immensely grateful. This Yelp is 5 massive stars!!! Best Yelp ever!!

The other day I called several times, listened thru the automated message & then each time sat on hold for quite some time before being disconnected! The following day I tried again at 4:30. And the message said they were not taking calls, that the "on call" team was covering. I thought this weird since their closing time is listed at 5:30, 7:30 & 9:30 pm- depending on the day. Finally, the next day I found a number for one of the nurses there & was able to leave a voicemail. I received a call back today. When I relayed the extreme difficulty I had trying to reschedule an appt to this support staff/scheduler I received a chuckle & was matter of factly told it was normal that no one answers the phones after 4:20 pm since that is when they stop taking calls & refer everything to the "on-call" team. This was news to us! Then why bother listing their "open" hours as being a full hour past that time, 2 hours past that time & 5 hours past that time-- depending on the day? So in summary, the telephone triage system is VERY inconvenient to navigate, and usually results in long wait times and disconnects/hang ups. And patients should know that they stop answering the phones for non-emergencies at 4:30- regardless of their posted hours.

Always calm, smiling, comforting and attentive. All appointments have started exactly on time which helps relieve anxiety as there is no stressful waiting. The facility is spotless and so beautiful. Took me two years to write this since I was still recovering from what a horrible job this place…read moredid and made me feel. Firstly, I wanted to make sure I was healthy and in a comfortable place as it's already a scary feeling going to see a family/ob-gyn doctor. they could not have been more business-like and rushed me to a room and told me to change into a gown. Secondly, absolutely no care at all about my well-being; I wanted to talk to the doctor about my concerns and she (Dr. Anita Bednarz) did not make me feel comfortable at all. We were discussing health options and such but she made it feel like a brochure. I left that day with more questions and research to do on my own. Whenever I did have additional questions or concerns, my inquiries were hardly replied to and if/when they were; it was very abrupt and dismissive. To be frank, her replies were almost condescending, as if it was a bother that a paying patient in her practice wanted to ensure she was making the right choice for her body. After enduring THREE months of pain to go away, mind you, she said this pain was "normal" and brushed me off despite weekly calls to her practice because the pain and the bleeding was getting worse and worse.. time after time. I called again.. but to no avail - she never returned my calls or emails and was never in the office apparently, and I did this all while seeing many other doctors from there to try and remedy the situation. Can you believe this? The primary medical 'professional' who did this to me, is not available for consult?? NO one could remove what she had put in me. Waited another month and thanks to (Dr. Reinaldo Sanchez) I had to go under just to remove this medical thing and be pain-free. With all that said and done, I'm thankful for this life lesson. If it weren't for the fact that we had insurance. Spending $2K on my health and safety should not have come to that. I will not recommend this place to anyone in or near the area. Case in point; "Dr." Anita Bednarz is a person you would never want to have to deal with in any health-related capacity. She does not take the time for you as a patient whether if it is before, during, or after. I went through my initial treatment with her due to her 'selling' me the idea of what could be good for me, but never looked into my prior medical history and take into account of what complications there may be. Even a General Practice doctor would know this from the start. How Bednarz passed her medical board exams is beyond me. I would confidently say that if she were to stay in practice, anyone that is even thinking of going to her place of practice; to think twice and go just about anywhere else. I still have all my records from the initial treatment, the complications, the phone logs, emails, everything .. all of it just in case if I need to take Bednarz to court and file suit for malpractice. I've worked in healthcare long enough to understand that it's a tough field, but I've never in my life encountered someone completely and utterly soul-less. Bednarz should be removed from practicing any form of medicine immediately as she is a dire risk for anyone that may be seeking care. I've kept these records and took this long to write this review just due to the extreme stress and anxiety it's given me since. Rest assured, there may come a time and place where I will take her to court for this. On a brighter note, upon deep review and after discussing my horror stories among family, friends and peers; many recommended (I wish this happened prior but such is my lesson) I go see Dr. Cynthia Page of Elmhurst, and she was an absolute gem.
