The pita authetique is my go-to -- has the best most delicious, light, and creamy tzatziki sauce and delicious meat. The Pitarifque poutine is very yummy as well. Comes with bacon, cheese, lettuce tomatoes, mayo, mustard, onion, insanely yummy spicy peppers, and 1/2 pound or so of fresh ground beef patties. They also have beer on tap -- IPA or lager -- small one is only $3.50! I pretty much eat here every week after or before the gym -- way better food and prices than patiti patata across the street IMO, although don't get me wrong, that place is also very good too.

What makes it different is the gravy. It's not a heavy dark/beef gravy like you'd expect, it's a much lighter, but still flavourful almost rotisserie-like gravy (reminiscent of the gravy at Swiss Chalet but in the best way). Fresh cheese curds (to be expected here) and fries had a good texture (just enough bite to it, soft and pillowy on the inside). Would highly recommend, great price for a large portion as well!

More Montreal (1 of 2)…read more I told a good friend of mine they needed to visit Montreal. They did and are still thanking me. This person hails from the United States, but has lived in different countries. In turn, I was told to go eat at Maison Grecque. On a humid summer day, I did just that. Maison Grecque sits on Avenue Duluth, where it feels like a blend zone between Centre-Ville and where the Plateau feels too earthy crunchy. Avenue Duluth has been known to house various Greek options and this is certainly one of the better ones. They run a table d'hote with lunch pricing all the way until 4 p.m. I barely I made it in there and the server told me that he had to place the order very quickly so their computer would hold the price. I ordered a combination platter with two skewers of chicken souvlaki, potatoes, salad, and rice. It was preceded by a bowl of avgolemono soup. It was a generously sized platter and more Greek restaurants should imitate its proportions. With it came a dessert and, while I don't remember if I had a choice, it was a small piece of baklava. I had a cup of drip house coffee with which to wash it all down. It was a very good meal; that is, if you like casual and robust Greek cuisine. Of the many area restaurants which end with the word "Grecque," this is the most worthy of that label. If I was in the mood for Greek food, I would definitely go back. Most of the time I am. A few rare times I'm not. There was a weird mix up with the order being so close to the end of the table d'hote period. The server caught it and did a quick slight of hand to fix it. The guy sitting across the arched low wall from me noticed it and laughed. Without going into much detail, it wasn't something you see every day. The server was humorous. Unlike other places in the world I visit, I really appreciate being perceived as a local here ... at least initially. I was happy with the table d'hote's pricing. The restaurant has a cozy interior that is sort of rustic. Take note that, for when the weather is cooperating, they also have a large exterior garden seating area. Since I was told to eat here, and it turned out to be a positive experience, I thought I would pass this on to readers of reviews. Maison Grecque on Avenue Duluth is one of the better casual Greek restaurants at which I've eaten in the Montreal area.

We definitely got our money's worth and had a great time. We love that we were able to support a local family own restaurant that has been around for 45 years. The live music and dancing, which continued into the early morning, added another level of entertainment to the dinner. Spacious dining area with a section that shows off the fresh fish of the day-a smaller outdoor seating area.-only one table occupied given almost closing time. First, we quickly realized, for 3 of us, we ordered too much food. Started with the Fried Eggplant (Aubergine) and Tarama Salata. Both were tasty. The Tarama was milder and not as salty-every restaurant/city has their own version of my favorite dip. Greek Salad was just like in Athens-so much Feta, Olives and no lettuce -delicious. Grilled Squid was sliced thinly and perfectly seasoned! Oh we also had to try the Mexican Jumbo Shrimp-jumbo they were and tasty. At this point, we should've stopped but we had to try an entree. We ordered the Mediterranean Sea Bream (for 2) which was just right for 3 of us given our endless appetizers. The table side carving and plating of the fish was a nice touch. This is Greek elegance and sophisticated magnificence in the food preparation. First, the think that makes any establishment is service. Here, the service is impeccable but subtle. With just a glance the server , Juliano attended every need. So personable, so available, but never over-bearing. The Greek salad is the essence of pure, fresh tomato, cucumber, peppers, not too much olive, two chunks of feta, in a deliciously fresh olive oil and vinegar with subtle but effective seasoning. Most importantly, and this epitomizes the restaurant, all presented at the perfect room temperature and as if the vegetables and marinated perfectly. The Linguine aux fruits de mer is not too overbearing on a bed of fine pasta with a delicious, sauce that lingers on the pasta and is so flavorful. The seafood is ringed calamari, head calamari, sautéed, scallop, and huge shrimp. In New Orleans would be called prawns. My only complaint was a little light on shrimp and one more would be amazing. The cappuccino was so thick with milk froth it far outlasted the coffee. House made pistachio ice cream is perfectly not too sweet and rich and creamy perfection. This restaurant knows EXACTLY what they are doing! Somewhat limited in selection but everything done to the finest detail. You must ask for Juliano, he will take good care of you. You will leave feeling like a friend.

The ambiance was great, perfectly fitting our mood, and the food far exceeded our expectations. It's a pricier restaurant, so it's not most people's weekly splurge. When you walk up, there is a pergola area with seating area in front of the restaurant, but, once inside, there are several elegant indoor dining rooms as well as a large garden patio in the back which is partly covered. The garden area is where we chose to dine, and it was beautiful with lots of plants and flowers to provide a pleasant ambience. Some people were dressed up and others came casual. This is one of the few restaurants where you can bring your own wine. I had never heard of that. They do offer a variety of drinks, water and coffee, etc. The menu has everything from steak, chicken, seafood and vegetarian, along with desserts. We were there for lunch, and ordered the lunch special which includes a soup or salad as a starter, the main course, plus a selection of desserts. I went twice to this restaurant. The first time I ordered the chicken kebab and shrimp. The second time I ordered a steak. Both times the food was absolutely delicious. The lentil soup was wonderful. The salads were very fresh and delightful. The desserts... One day I had vanilla ice cream with "sour cherries", and the second time I had baklava... Both were amazing! The service was impeccable, friendly, and prompt. All the staff and our servers were great to work with, and fully bilingual. No shade to older people, but we were with our 18 and 20 year old kids and the vibe was kinda vanilla. We were pretty hungry so decided to give it a go. Firstly, we are from Ontario and are not fluent in French. We will make the effort to do our best but usually the servers will just speak English, which we appreciate! Our server this day was just not the friendliest. She seemed annoyed with us from the get go. Whether it was our subpar attempt at speaking French or not, who knows. Definitely couldn't have been a reflection of our attitudes as we always go out of our way to be super respectful of people in the service industry as we have all worked in it in some capacity. The place was not very busy so it's not like she was slammed with orders. She took our order and then disappeared for 45 minutes lol. People were being served all around us but it seemed as though we had been forgotten. Our order was not complicated (2 Greek salads, and two chicken skewer plates). When our meal finally arrived, I was honestly shocked. The "village Greek salad" or however they called it was just tasteless. Huge pieces of pepper, huge pieces of tomato, some cucumber, minuscule feta and a few olives tossed in for good measure and the most pathetic gathering of lettuce underneath it all. Barely any oil, zero vinegar. It was just laughable. Server was nowhere to be seen so I couldn't ask for some extra oil and vinegar. Not once did she come by to see how we were doing or ask if we needed anything. Just couldn't be bothered, I guess. The chicken skewer platters were tasty enough but definitely nothing to write home about. We won't be returning on future visits to Montreal. The outside patio is cute but that was the only positive about our experience. Even trying to pay was a huge hassle as the server had seemingly disappeared and we waited for almost ten minutes until she showed her face. When she printed the bill, made an "are you stupid?" face as she was standing a bit further away from me and basically called me over like I was a dog. We still tipped her (15% instead of our usual of 22%) (my kids are extremely unhappy that I tipped at all) but we will never recommend this place to friends or family coming in from out of town.
