    Cemetery Dust
    Darren S.

First off: lovely space and lovely people. The ambiance is dark and quiet --- perfect if you want to escape the busy street life on the outside. The service was also quite pleasant: all the workers were very nice in helping me choose something to order. I decided to order the "Cemetery Dust" --- described as a "Tiramisu latte, chocolate ribbons, mascarpone top, + chocolate powder". I have no doubt ALL THOSE ELEMENTS were in my drink, but upon first sip, I was --- disappointed. This is supposed to be the "top-seller", too! Not to be a coffee snob, but it tasted like regular iced coffee with a hell of a lot of chocolate syrup. It tasted like a thick MOCHA. The description sold the drink, but it didn't deliver. This was just my first trip to Nightshade, I'm definitely gonna come back to try a few more items. Hopefully it'll get me out of the cemetery this time!

Last week, I stopped into Nightshade Coffee with my husband for matcha and bites to eat before running errands in the area. We saw a video review of the place, and it was on our list of cafes to check out and local businesses to support. Hubs was a fan of his hot matcha with oat milk. We were both fans of their drinkware. I wanted to try one of their signature drinks, so I went with a Type O matcha - the crushed pistachios and syrup were very good. We split a Slavic Shadow Sand-Witch. It's very good (vegetarian-husband approved). Before leaving, we got two hot Americanos to go. On a cloudy, rainy day, those drinks were jus right. From other places, Americanos can be very acidic - here, they were strong and smooth.

Picked up some coffee at Nightshade Coffee on a Saturday afternoon. It's a pretty cool spot, with a Gothic/Victorian theme. We ordered the Phoenix and Cemetery Dust iced coffees. They were made pretty quickly and tasted great. I especially liked their foam. Would definitely return for another afternoon pick me up.

This spot just opened and it's very cool. If you're looking for a unique coffee spot, I recommend coming here. They just opened and were packed when I went. There is indoor and outdoor seating. They have an array of drinks and pastries available. I love how this is a vampire coffee place. I wish this spot was closer to me; I would stop in more frequently.

Wow, this place has such a cool vibe! Loved the gothic decor. I ordered the Cemetery Dust and a scone. Wasn't sure if I'd get a seat as it was a Saturday and very busy, but luckily something opened up right after paying. As busy as it was, the staff was moving quickly and super friendly. This was a great addition to Westwood!

Unfortunately, I don't know the name of the sandwich, but it was served on a croissant with salami, and what really stood out to me were what I think were pine nuts ‍. The iced Majesty has become my go-to beverage order. One day ill try something else. The last dessert I tried was this upside-down caramel situation that reminded me of a croissantdonut concoction, and unfortunately I can't remember the name of it lol -- so I guess I'm forced to come back. when I stop in, the lines are forming up and people are sitting in to meet up with friends. So everyone likes the coffee.

What a cool cafe with gothic vibes and creative concoctions. I love how innovative their signature drinks are, including unique syrups like spicy cayenne pepper or maple black sesame. Staff is super friendly and everything on the menu looks so enticing that it's hard to choose from. I'm not in this area often but would definitely swing by again!

It was the Monday of a three day weekend and my wife wanted to get coffee. She had tried Nightshade with a friend and wanted me to try it. One of our daughters joined us. We arrived a bit before 3 and it was very crowded. The line moved pretty quickly. The ambience is awesome! Black walls, cool decor, and comfortable seating. My daughter enjoyed an iced coffee with cold foam and my wife enjoyed a chai latte. I was very happy to see pour over on the menu and went with that. I always feel a bit guilty ordering pour over in a crowded cafe but the owner was so nice about it. She said that pour over is her go to as well and we had a nice conversation about the Colombian beans that she has roasted specifically for her shop. The roast was medium dark and tasted delicious. Nice and smooth! We will certainly return!

Everytime we go, weekend or weekday; the staff is friendly and fast. No matter how busy, they always work smoothly as if they have been there forever. The place is typically busy, especially packed on weekends. The drinks are pretty dang good, and unique. I've had about half the drinks on their menu now and I've enjoyed them all. Memento Mori is my current favorite, followed by Phoenix Feather. Drinks are not all super sweet or overpowering flavor wise, with a wide range of choices and varying intensities. The pastries are great too, and seem to cycle about half the offerings frequently. Their made to order menu is unique, with the Fat Bee being my regular choice. (Lavender cream, in a croissant, with a honey drizzle, lemon zest, and edible flowers) Thematic music is always playing, and it isnt so loud that you can't have a conversation. They also always seem to know what is playing if you want to listen to it later. Local artisans sell their wares that fit the vibe of the shop, with prints, hair accessories, essential oils, potions, and more; they seem to be very supportive of local creators. The walls are black, decorated with various pinned insects, flowers, and interesting small taxidermy in theme for the place. Furniture is varied and unique, along with a bar seating for 3 persons. With space for single patrons and small groups to find adequate seating assuming the location isnt packed with it being a fairly small space. This is my personal favorite coffee place (if it isnt obviousby now), and a weekly stop even though it is not on my way to other shops I frequent. Very glad they opened up, even though I'm not goth, it is easy to feel at home there. Including to my child, who adores their hot cocoa.

Ordered the "cemetery dust" latte. Good coffee and appreciate the dedication to the goth decor.

I have been dying to visit nightshade coffee, as I had dreamed of a place like this since I was a student at FIT!!! I finally got there, and it did not disappoint! Fulfilling the Gothic and Victorian theme to the most minute of details and decor, this place really nailed the vibe and the coffee experience. BTW, I walked in within five minutes of their closing time and they still happily took my order. We were entranced by the comfy chartreuse, ornately gold-framed crushed velvet couches & crimson cocoon chairs. I am so fortunate to live in a town that nightshade has come to, and hope they will be here for a very long time. Huzzah!

    Karen T.

The concept and aesthetic of this place is really great. I love the decor and the drink names are very clever. I thought my deadly nightshade coffee was just okay. You don't really taste the *blackberry in it. The garnish of sage was a cool touch though.

    Sarah C.

My SO and I visited Nightshade Coffee on a late Thursday morning and found street parking easily. As soon as we walked in, my SO said, "This is totally your vibe." The place is decorated with beautiful gothic elements, and I was in love with the style immediately. There are some drinks listed on their menu with clever names, so I opted for their iced Deadly Nightshade specialty. The drink was comprised of espresso, blackberry vanilla syrup, blackberry cold foam, and sage. I couldn't wait to get my greedy little hands on my drink upon arrival and I was not disappointed. Their coffee base is quite good and my SO's drink was also tasty, even though I hardly ever like what he orders. There's some seating, including a bar with stools, but not a ton of options. Next time, I would love to be able to sit for a while and really enjoy the ambiance.

This was a gift from the father in law who is a big time coffee aficionado and who appreciates the finer coffees. Me, I grew up on Bustelo or whatever Spanish coffee was on sale. At first I did not understand the hype, but after a couple of years I began to appreciate and savor good coffee. It was very much an acquired taste that took some time. There is a process here. Flavors. Roast. Brewing. Bottom line, it is a wonderful process were the palate will enjoy the adventure. Now I am a fan of DARK SIDE OF THE MOON DOGGIE FRENCH ROAST and SUMATRA MANDHELING - GAYO MOUNTAIN. Say what........ DARK SIDE OF THE MOON DOGGIE FRENCH ROAST It is a very rich and bittersweet bean with caramel undertones. The Roast is very dark and organic. This is a very nice coffee that is a perfect finish to a meal. It will compliment your dessert or stand on its own. A very tasty coffee and sweet finish. SUMATRA MANDHELING - GAYO MOUNTAIN The Sumatra is a earthy and heavy body bean with low acidity. It has complex flavors and I feel it goes well with many after dinner drinks. My favorite is a Sambuca Romano. Roast is dark. This is one for the big boys. The website is very user friendly for ordering your favorite bean. When you compare the price of Moon Doggie Coffee to a Starbucks bought coffee the price point is very reasonable. We are talking around $17 lb. Not cheap, but it is well worth the price tag. Indulge if you like a good cup of coffee and looking for some treats...............

The Dell Coffee Co is located on Oradell's bustling Kinderkamack Road. I've driven by it so many times and finally decided to check it out. There's free street parking and a lot in the back. The atmosphere is charming, cozy, and calming. The owner did a great job with the interior design! Lots of plants, earthy tones, wooden furniture, large windows with natural lighting, pillows, and comfortable sofas. They have wifi and outlets, making it an ideal place to work, study, or read in. Seating is a bit limited - there's a communal table that fits six people, three stools at a counter, and three small sofa chairs. I visited on weekday afternoons and didn't have a problem finding a seat. The drink menu has your classic espresso beverages, tea, and cold brew. They have a food menu with sandwiches, wraps, avocado toast, and acai bowls. They also have fresh pastries to choose from like croissant cubes, scones, banana bread, and muffins. The baristas are incredibly friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable. They have a lot of regulars here and you can tell that this is the type of coffee shop that will remember your name and order. I've tried... *Hot Salted Caramel Latte ~$6 - A creamy and comforting drink! The milk to espresso ratio was just right. The espresso was strong and went well with the richness of the caramel. It wasn't too sweet at all - flavors were well balanced and I could taste the hints of sea salt. *Churro Croissant Cube $8.50 - Highly recommend! It's a croissant in the shape of a cube. It's flaky, crispy, and coated with cinnamon and sugar on the outside. The bread was soft, airy, and buttery on the inside. I loved the contrasting textures! *Sugar Cookie Latte ~$7 (vanilla and almond infused espresso with whipped cream and holiday sprinkles on top) - This was more on the sweeter/sugary/milky side, which was fine with me. The cookie flavor was subtle. I would have liked the espresso to be stronger. *Cold Brew $4.50 - Not a fan. The brew was too bitter and tasted watered down. I added milk and sugar, but that didn't help. *Egg Salad Sandwich $10 (tomato, lettuce, egg salad on sourdough bread) - The bread had a crunchy crust with a chewy interior. It had a tangy flavor to it, which I enjoyed. The egg salad was too salty. Overall, the sandwich was decent, but not great. It's small for the price; I don't think I'd pay $10 for it again. Keep supporting your local coffee shops!

The Purple Haze smoothie is my usual order and never disappoints -- flavorful, refreshing, and perfectly blended. I do occasionally mix it up, but I always come back to that one. Their energy bites are another standout -- satisfying a sweet craving while still being made with better-for-you ingredients. I usually keep a few in my fridge for grab-and-go energy. They also offer healthy prepared meals, which is incredibly convenient. I haven't personally tried them due to a severe gluten allergy, but friends who have enjoy them. This is primarily a grab-and-go spot, though there is minimal indoor seating if you want to stay. The staff has consistently been friendly and attentive, always acknowledging customers when they walk in. Parking tip: Westwood has metered street parking, and during peak hours it can be tough to find a spot. Even if you're running in quickly, make sure you feed the meter -- tickets are given out easily. My only real disappointment is that they discontinued the buy-10-get-1-free punch card. I was definitely bummed to see that go and would love to see some kind of rewards program return. Overall, Fitrition is a reliable local favorite for fresh shakes, snacks, and grab-and-go fuel -- it's exactly the kind of spot you're happy to keep in your rotation.
