Staff was friendly and you can tell that they love what they do. The only reason I'm leaving 4 stars and not five is because the maze itself was slightly underwhelming. My friends and I drove from Camp Lejeune to Havelock, which was about an hour drive. We were excited to experience "The Scariest Haunted Attraction In NC" as advertised. Especially considering that this is one of the few attractions that are actually allowed to touch you (only after 9PM). However, the maze only lasted about 10-15 minutes at most and the jump scares were slightly underwhelming. The scare actors were "hidden" in plain sight with bright lighting and had no real jump scare effect. Additionally, the actors barely even touched us besides the occasional shoulder or leg or back tap. In my personal opinion, the haunted attraction would be 100x better if it was darker, slightly longer, and more physical. If the maze itself was darker and had better obstacles to make the jump scares better, it would be great. If the maze was longer, it might be more worth the $35 dollars and long drive. If the scare actors actually grabbed us or were more aggressive with their physical contact, it would have been way scarier. Overall, the experience was great but isn't meeting its full potential. What really made up for it was the polite and friendly staff and photo ops outside. I highly believe that if the directors of this experience needed this advice, it would really take the event to the next level. read more

As a Halloween fan, I was anxious to try something new to us this year. So we made the long trek from Raleigh after purchasing advance tickets. I find several problems with this attraction. Once inside it's very well done. However its like going to an amusement park with long lines and 5 different attractions. You have to wait in line for each attraction as they aren't a continuous run thru. That breaks up the scare factor and also gets annoying as it took 2 hours to get everything done. And the only reason it took that LITTLE is because at 10pm they amp up the scares to R rated, so they wanted to get everyone done who was there for the PG rated fun (R rated contains foul language and touching- neither of which I want to have happen to me). WE went to the head of our last line so we could get done once it was announced. The lines move s l o w l y!! The crowd is rowdy! The supposed entertainment was NOT entertainment at all. And the cops drove by a lot to make sure things didn't get out of hand. There are even protesters from the church building down the street. A VIP line would be very helpful (I would have paid more to get through it quicker) and a continuous attraction would have been preferred. read more

Not the worst "haunted house" I've been to, but definitely didn't live up to the hype. It was well put together, construction-wise, well staffed, but overpriced. The doorman was happy to allow some of his friends to jump to the head of the line after we'd been waiting for over an hour for the place to open. Of course he claimed to not see them, even though they were standing right in front of him. He then pulled several more people up (claiming he needed them to fill up a group) in what we felt was a passive-aggressive move. read more

60 dollars for two people just to walk through a few rooms for 10-15 minutes. staff were cool and all but seriously underwhelming, plus that isn't even paying for anything else outside of the walkthrough. the area isn't even nicely arranged, it's in a secluded corner. the show with the ring girl or whatever was pretty bad, there were only a few shows throughout the night and they took forever to actually show up. read more

$20 for a haunted house is a bargain IMO. Especially one as long as this. We were vacationing in Morehead City and it was worth the drive. Arrive after 10pm for the "R" version. I won't share too much more except that the actors are very physical and I think that makes for the best haunted houses. read more

Sorry, but as a huge Halloween fan...this is one of the worst haunted houses I've ever been too. They were low in staff members so there wasn't that much scaring. Effects and music was bad, The lines moved very slow which was very unnecessary because it didn't take long to walk through the whole thing. We have gone to this attraction two years in a row now. We are fans of extreme haunted attractions and if you are too be sure to go after 10 pm when they can touch you and use profanity. I was actually scared a couple times which is saying something! Great work by the actors too. The location is different from any other attraction we have been to because it is in a stip mall. We also LOVED the Christmas haunted attraction they did year before last. Look forward to the new overnight summer attraction as well. read more

If you know the blood, sweat and tears that went into this place, it changes a lot. If you are expecting a high budget, movie character, cliche attraction, then go to a theme park or disney world. This was built from the ground up by hand, run by a family and all character and everything in it is original. All make up, costuming and even the building/design is hand-built by the crew that puts their heart in it. I know the last 2 reviews aren't great but they strive to improve every year. Yes, the month of October is insanely slammed. They average a couple thousand people per night on the weekends of October. So, yes they have really long lines. The HAVE implemented a VIP line and they entertain you while you wait as well. Once we went through, though, it was well worth the wait! I've been to the "theme park" attractions as well and, to me, this is far better and better for the buck! read more

Me and my brothers go to the nightmare factory every year and have always enjoyed it! The attractions are well made and the actors are amazing! Every time we go we go after 10pm to the rated R version which is terrifying! The staff is very friendly and I have never had a problem while there. It is well worth the trip and I highly recommend it! Also, just did the 6 hour lock in that they are doing this summer and have to say there is no better horror attraction then this! Its $80.00 for the lock in but it is well worth it!!! read more

The reviews for Nightmare Factory here are right on point. I would NEVER recommend this attraction to anyone. It's a shame because a good haunted house is a great way to get in the mood for Halloween. We went at 10:00 p.m. for the "rated R" version of the event. We knew to expect a more intense experience but things didn't get scarier after 10:00, they just got rude. The actors curse at you from start to finish, pull hair, grab, shove and are unprofessional bullies. The set up is a cool haunted house but the people that work there totally ruin it. As I said, the haunt is cool but the event organization is wretched, the worst I've ever seen. Parking is the real "nightmare". No direction at all. It's grab it and growl, first come first serve. The ticket lines are almost painfully long, no lie, you will wait at least an hour and a half for the tickets. Then you get in line for the attraction. Ugghh!! I like to try and be fair on reviews but I will be honest above all else. A business can't be faulted for overcrowding and long lines but there are plenty of poor management decisions that they must take responsibility for. So here is my breakdown of bad and good. Bad: 1. The attraction PLAINLY states that after 10:00 there will be bad language. I expected that but the "actors" just scream F-u in your face throughout the whole walk. So not scary, just annoying. They make nasty personal comments. Again, rude not scary. 2. The touching IS NOT to enhance the scare at least half the time. My sister had her chest full on grabbed and my daughter had a nasty bruise with scratches going down her leg. That was battery! If I were "sue happy" I would have taken her straight to the hospital to have it documented and filed charges and a law suit. I'm sure no one pays their money to be injured at any attraction. 3. Security is a joke. There were many, many drunk rowdy people everywhere. Again, ,management can't control who shows up but they darn well have a responsibility to take care of the people there. We stood in line for the attraction for three hours and people REPEATEDLY kept cutting in the line. We told management and basically got a shoulder shrug. 4. I've commented a few times on how many people were there. After standing in line for almost two hours, the line totally stopped moving for over thirty minutes. We asked an employee what was going on and we were told the entire inside staff was on a BREAK!! With hundreds of people on line waiting! 5. The outside entertainers were funny but the humor was on the edge of obscene. Again, after 10:00 but, as usual, parents that don't take R ratings seriously had kids there hearing some pretty vulgar humor. One of the better parts pf the experience but still didn't make it to the great column for me. If they were ensuring everyone in attendance was at least 17 then two thumbs up but not appropriate for kids at all. 6. There were lots of void areas in the main attraction. Empty hallways and uneven flooring. Watch your step! 7. When we took our concerns to the management, he listened to what we had to say and then told us we were dreaming if we thought we were getting any money back. Didn't really expect that he would refund us but when service is this poor, you should always ask. Good: 1. The attraction it's self isn't bad. It could be really scary if the employees worked with the environment and didn't distract with bad behavior. 2. Cheep at $15 In short, we left exhausted, annoyed and not scared. Most of the employees were out front bsing with each other normally before we went in so when I was in there I already knew what they all looked like and heard what their plans were for later that night. There were no jump scares. Just a bunch of screaming in your ear and following. I was punched by the guy in the elevator and when I told the staff all they had to say was "awwwe." This was literally the worse haunted house I've been to and I've been to A LOT of them. The group I was with decided not to go to Kings Dominion because it was 3 hours away and we would have gotten home at 3am. It was worse. We got home at 4am because of the line. We stood in line for 4 hours and 30 mins to get into a "haunted house" that lasted for 3 mins max and that's being generous. Part of the reason the line was so awful is because there was an actor out there doing dumb shit the entire night and it was distracting the line. To list some examples: a competition of people drinking a gallon of milk to see who would throw up first (why?), "breathing fire" (which was really him spitting liquid onto a flame), and let me not forget stapling his balls to someone's chest (there's nothing you can say about this). Honestly, every time this guy got OFF stage the line moved drastically. Also, as a suggestion, there should probably be someone monitoring the lines for alcohol. When people stand in line for 4 hours drinking they get VERY obnoxious. That didn't bother me as much as everything else because after standing in a line for 4 hours I was ready to kill a bottle of whiskey myself and I don't even drink. All of this waiting would have been worth it if it was the best haunted house I had been to but it wasn't. At 2 hours in I was ready to go home.. but they are smart, they decide to get your "non-refundable" ticket money WAY before the line starts to wrap to get into the actual attraction. I can't say much more because I'm honestly getting pissed thinking about how I wasted our Saturday night on this trip. To top it all off, this place was one person's FIRST haunted house and I wouldn't even blame her if she didn't go to another. Last night we attempted to go to The Nightmare Factory. We came all the way from Jacksonville which was an hour drive so we were hoping it was as good as some people said it was. Firstly, when we got there the venue is located in a strip mall in an alley way. There was no distinguishable parking areas so it was basically a free for all. People were constantly trying to park and having to turn around in tight spaces to get out (there was no one to direct parking). Once we found parking we went to the ticket line. Right off the bat four drugged up teenagers cut us off in line, angering us and the ten people behind us-who had beers with them. 'Security' was a joke. This could've got out of hand really fast, but thankfully it didn't. The majority of the people there have a thing against Marines. Yes, the venue is ran by a Marine, but to say it is military friendly is a reach. All we could hear while in the line was how so and so 'got' two jarheads the other day. How 'there are so many of those mother f*cking jarheads here', and so on. My husband and quite a few of the other Marines in line were getting quite fed up. We finally decided to leave when one of the ten people behind us said "Eh, man could you cover me up? I got a blunt here and I'm trying to light it." Needless to say this place is NOT family friendly. The whole time I was either worried that I would be assaulted or that someone would try to steal from us. I'm sure the haunted houses themselves might've been fun, but I wouldn't want to be in a dark place with the people we had around us. To sum it up, after posting a comment on the lack of security on Nightmare Factory's facebook page, it got deleted. You be the judge. But if you do intend to go take a large group with you and don't keep your wallets in your back pockets. read more
