I did complain to social service nurse but probably should have followed up with HIPPA filing. But even better than being a great massage therapist, Bonnie is incredibly knowledgeable about all things birth and pregnancy, which made her an amazing doula. I had the opportunity to work with Bonnie and her partner Karen for my second birth (they were not available for my first birth and I didn't have a doula then, and I ended up with an unplanned C-section) and I can't recommend them enough. I attempted a VBAC for my second birth, and it was an intense experience, but having Bonnie and Karen by my side made all the difference and perhaps the reason for my eventual success after being very close to having another failure to progress. They are very responsive, with you throughout the process, come visit your home to give lessons prior to your birth which also helps with preparing your home for the experience, come to your home again when you're in active labor but do not want to go to the hospital too early. They provided encouragement, guidance, and they're especially knowledgeable about the different birthing positions throughout the entire process. I don't think all doulas are capable of providing such critical support. It was an entirely different experience from my first birth when there were so many wasted opportunities to do something to help with progress. If you're considering hiring a doula for your birth, I highly recommend Bonnie and Karen - they are simply amazing!

I had a prenatal massage with Bonnie, and I recommend that as a part of birth prep. Bonnie supported us through my pregnancy- answering questions, giving resources, and recommending tools and processes for a smooth birth experience. She came to our home for a Spinning Babies session which was so helpful to learn in our environment where we planned to do early labor. We had an online class with Karen, and she helped us prepare for life with an infant. This started conversations for us beyond birth, and it was wonderful to connect with Karen prior to our birth. We ended up working with Bonnie and Karen during labor, and they are a great team. We felt supported and cared for throughout.

My experience with the midwives was absolutely phenomenal. From the beginning of my pregnancy…read morethrough birth, postpartum care, and now regular GYN care, I have loved working with the midwives. I honestly can't say enough good things about the care I've received. I saw Clare at the beginning of my pregnancy through my second trimester, when due to scheduling concerns I needed to switch to another provider. I was scheduled with Jenny Nelson, who is, hand down, the best health care provider I have ever had the opportunity to work with. She jumped in and got to know me and my wife, helped us develop a birth plan, and helped us feel as ready and prepared as well could be, being first time parents. When I went into labor, Jenny was the midwife on the floor and stayed with me through huge stretches of her entire shift. My labor was long and pretty difficult, but she spent hours with me and my wife, coaching me through labor, discussing our options at various points, and helping us decide when to push through and follow our birth plan, and when to make some other decisions. While I initially did not want any pain relief, she talked me through the decision to get an epidural at about 11 hours in. She helped me to feel empowered, in control, and supported throughout my labor. When it was time to start pushing, I had Jen Williams, another midwife, and even though the floor was packed and there were multiple births happening that night, she was there as much as she could be. I pushed for over three hours. I was clear that I did not want a c-section unless the baby's life was at risk, and Jen and the nursing team supported me in that goal and helped ensure that my baby was safe and that I was able to advocate for myself as much as possible. I think at many other hospitals, I would have been forced to have an emergency c-section, but I was so deeply grateful for their support in helping me to deliver my baby safely and in a way that I was comfortable. Throughout my postpartum care, each nurse I saw was kinder than the one before, and I can say the same for each midwife who came to check on me postpartum. My wife and I both felt that the care we had was amazing, and are looking forward to having all of our babies at Mt. Auburn with the midwives.

I had read rave reviews about Mt. Auburn (including multiple people claiming to have had a "wonderful" labor there), all the while wondering how wonderful labor really could be. I now understand completely. From the moment that we called the hospital after contractions started to the arrival and long delivery process, each nurse and midwife that took care of me provided the utmost care, professionalism, and explanation of what was happening next and why. Amidst the inevitable anxiety of a first labor, I felt fully cared for and at ease. I can't thank the nurses enough for their tremendous care during both the labor and delivery process, as well as postpartum care for myself and baby. Postpartum, the nurses and a wonderful lactation consultant provided guidance on everything from what to expect during the first few days of our newborns' life to feeding techniques to giving the baby a first bath. Recovery was peaceful and allowed us time to bond as a family of three. By the time we left the hospital, we felt prepared enough to care for our newborn and with the opportunity to call with any questions that we might have. Thank you, Mt. Auburn!
