Authentic Newfoundland fare with that "just like mom used to make" flavour. You can't get friendlier service anywhere. I highly recommend the squid rings...or calamari, to the non-east coasters. read more

We…read morerated them as follows: Mussels - 6 out of 10 Chowder - 6 out of 10 The fish - 7 out of 10 The chips - 6 out of 10. Needless to say, we were very disappointed after reading all of the glowing reviews. We simply did not find the food that good. The mussels were small and overcooked, especially condsidering their small size. The chowder while seeming to have adequate fish products, the liquid part was thin and rather watery. The fish itself was very ordinary and not particularly of generous portions. The chips again were very ordinary. To be honest, we have had much better and tastier seafood at local fish trucks and other regular takeouts. We are stating just the facts as we experienced the experience. By the way, the servers were excellent. Needs to work on food quality overall though.

Perfect beer pairings for all of the menu options, my wife had a Quidi Vidi Bakeapple sour (I opted for a cherry beer from the same Newfoundland brewery) to accompany her lobster feast while my son had a pop with a terrific burger. Shortly after we ordered, one of the servers ran down the few flights of stairs to the docks and then remerged grinning from ear-to-ear with our unbelievably fresh lobsters in a bucket! While on the topic of staff, they strike the perfect balance in attentiveness (present but not pestering) and are knowledgeable and friendly. The ambiance was somewhat casual but would certainly suit a more formal evening of dining as well. The price is a little steep but, considering the quality and portion size of their servings, it is quite understandable. Take it from this gob-smacked prairie boy, if you're in this area, this is a GREAT bet for supper.

Unfortunately this last visit, midweek so it was not busy, was a truly awful meal. The wines are still fabulous but the food was deplorable. My partner's strip loin steak was totally forgettable. My schnitzel should not have been served to anyone, much less a paying customer. One piece was alright but the second piece, well, at one point I thought it was the ugliest decoration I had ever seen. It was a piece of wood, battered and fried. I am certain the owners knew of this fiascos as they were sitting out front, sipping wine. This definitely was reflected in the waitresses service to the non busy restaurant. Shame on Juniper's for such a poor quality meal and actually having the ner to serve and charge people to be insulted.
