Single Nicks cheese burger

Small little restaurant. They have nice outside seating. The tables inside fill up quick. We ordered the juniors burgers and they were still good sized. We waited45 minutes they let us know before we ordered. The burgers were hot and delicious. Just what I was hoping for!!!!!

This place has the best hamburgers! Located in Welcome NC. Today my wife and I split the Mushroom Burger and my FIL got the Chicken Tenders. We got Onion Rings. They were fresh and crispy. Our little person got a plain Hot dog and Fries. Everything was great. I usually get the Grilled chicken sandwich. We called in our order and it took about 30 minutes as they grill everything by order. They have inside/ outside seating but we have always used the drive through.

Bacon Cheeseburger, Fries, and the best ranch.

Back at Nick's again. (Twice in a three day window, might I add). This time I strayed from my regular bacon cheeseburger and got the Honey Chicken Sandwich which has delicious pimento cheese, jalapeños, and honey. I also had fries with cheese on the side so I could dunk them and a side of munchers I shared with friends at the table. It was all so delicious. We arrived right after they opened and were served really quickly. We sat outside and enjoyed the outdoors as it was still relatively cool outside. There weren't bugs or flies or bees anywhere. It was so pleasant compared to eating outside at a lot of places. The picnic tables were super sturdy and sat large groups effortlessly. They also offered us a discount as we were a group of teachers. It was so nice! Any dime we can save as educators is always a blessing! As always, we will be back!

A nostalgic burger that's made the old-fashioned way. This place is really popular on the weekends, so be prepared to stand in line, but they have some great outdoor seating and really solid burgers, so it's worth it. You can even watch them grill the burger, and they put real cheese on it, not American cheese. Hand formed patties that are cooked on a steel top and deftly assembled into a perfect burger. They have a wide variety of different types of burgers, but the classic is the best. The chips are neat, but not all of them are crispy, so I might suggest the fries as a more reliable alternative.

Always packed to the walls but yet fast and efficient!

Nick's is an establishment that has absolutely earned and deserves their spot on the Yelp best places lists. I remember when they had just opened, and it has been a pleasure to see the business explode over the years. From day one, the burgers have been absolutely top notch, using fresh hand balled meat perfectly pressed and grilled, and they have never wavered. With the well deserved popularity, this is no longer a quick in and out stop, and I usually plan to wait 20-25 minutes if I'm just placing a walk in order. They also run fairly short hours compared to other restaurants, but I find myself happy their employees get real lives outside work too. The outside seating has expanded quite a bit including outside speakers so you can hear them call your order number. Today's visit, I decided to mix it up and try the Lettuce Wrap option. Honestly, that presentation was disappointing and I'll go back to burgers from now on. It was all the burger toppings sandwiched between two leaves of lettuce, and there was no "wrap" to it. For added fun, when I carried my order outside, the air curtain on the door blew so hard that my lettuce, pickles, and a splatter of mustard blew away. I'll remember to cover my tray carefully before going outside next time. That said, I won't dock a star over a single menu item when they are otherwise a fantastic establishment. The fries, onion rings, and hot chips are always top tier. The burgers are award winning. The staff are always great. This is everything you want in a local restaurant.

Still the best burgers around. We go to Nicks about once a week whether we dine in or take out. Can't wait for the new location to open ! I'm still hooked on the big nick but the pork chop sandwich has also stolen my heart. I you, Nicks.

Spicy Chicken Sandwich, honey, pimento cheese and jalapenos Kids hotdog and fries

This place is small and always packed, for good reason! The food is always on point! The sanitation grade is consistently great and so is the service. My husband's absolute favorite place for a smash burger. Though I don't do beef, they have other menu items that I get to enjoy. From their Tomato Sandwich with local-made Pimento Cheese, Munchers, Seasoned Fries, Chicken Sandwiches, and Salads. Today, I tried their new Chicken Sandwich they have on special right now. You can get it spicy or regular. I chose spicy, cause why not? I like heat. It came dripping with sweet honey, topped with locally made pimento cheese and sliced jalapenos. It was messy to eat, but so freakin' good!! There's napkins on the table. My little date had a hotdog with a side of seasoned fries, of course ranch is a must! If you haven't tried Nick's Old Fashioned Burgers while close to Welcome, NC, you're missing out. Go on and go. You can thank me later.

There is a reason this place is so highly rated. Great food and very decent prices. Jr burger was plenty. Fries are crisp and well cooked. Packed with locals at lunch. Recommended by the nice folks at the RCR Museum.

Great food. Great service. Great menu to choose from. Clean restaurant. Inside and out side seating. Spoke to one gentleman who drove from Virginia to try the burger.

Step back in time at Nick's Hamburger House! A short drive from anywhere in the Triad, this place is definitely worth the trip. They have an expansive menu sure to make anyone happy. We had smash burgers and onion rings, and the kids had grilled cheese and hot chips, and all of us were very pleased, including the picky-eating kids. Everything was hot, fresh, and crispy, and homemade sauces were outstanding. The mushrooms on my mushroom Swiss burger were thick and cooked to perfection. We'll definitely be back!

As far as burger joints go, this one ranks up there! The burgers weren't overly greasy. The crinkle fries were delightful. Loved the seasoned salt. Toddler loved her kids burger, fries, and ice cream. Husband loved the hotdog even more. I got a patty melt. Not a traditional kind, and warning, it was messy, but it was also really good. The dining area is just a simple space with tables and chairs. Got the job done. What makes Nicks stand out from other burger joints? The staff. I'm willing to bet the guy on the register was the owner, but he was a super approachable guy. Had great energy. Definitely will go again when in Lexington.

Nicks lived up to the hype. Delicious, melt in your mouth burger and crispy, crunchy onion rings. Lots of topping options for the burgers and the hot dogs. Great, laid/back outside seating with picnic tables and lots of shade! I took off one star for lack of allergy understanding. Allergens are not listed on the menu. Upon ordering I told the cashier I had a dairy allergy and asked if there was any dairy (milk or butter) in the hotdog or hamburger buns. She looked at the package for a few minutes in the hamburger buns and I saw her ask two other men in the back. She didn't check the hotdog buns. She came back and said "I'm not sure if they have dairy but we have a gluten free bun or lettuce wrap as an option". Rather than holding up the line and asking to read the ingredients myself, I settled for the lettuce wrap with my hamburger. Then she proceeded to ask if I wanted cheese....I understand it's my issue to have an allergy so it is what it is. My lettuce wrap burger was good but would have likely been more satiating and fulfilling with a good bun. My husband was impressed with his double patty melt on Texas toast! It sure did look delicious with all of the dripping cheese! We left and sent a text to our family and told them to stop by for a taste next time they were in town too!

When we have a craving for a great burger we go to Nicks! Today we ordered the Patty Melt & Cheeseburger w/fries! It was busy lunch time so it took a bit but worth the wait! The only suggestion was to crisp the Texas toast on the Patty Melt. Great staff, great prices!

Having the option to eat inside or outside is nice. The weather was amazing on my visit so I decided to eat outside.

We also tried the Pick 3 appetizers and loved the fried mushrooms, southwest egg rolls, and bagel bites, and we had a burger too! This looks like a little hole-in the-wall type of place, so I should've known it would be great! We got hotdogs all the way with no onions, I think they called them "regular." We also got fries and drinks. It was about $24 total, which isn't terrible compared to other hotdog places in the area. Everything was served piping hot and the hotdogs I would argue are my favorite of any in the area. They are a red hotdog and the white slaw and chili are almost sweet. It reminds me of the hotdogs I grew up eating at a local drive in restaurant back where I'm from. It is a walk-up stand and you're served at a window but you can take your food back to your car and eat in the air conditioning or take it back home with you. The lady taking orders was managing phone orders and in person orders while fixing drinks and calling customers up to get their food. I loved my visit to this little place and I'm going to definitely keep it in mind for lunches in the near future. Can't wait to go back soon!

Bridgett chatted us up all night and was genuinely interested in learning about us big city folks. Man, I have to say...it's been a while since I've had someone come up to me and be so curious about meeting someone who grew up and lives in NYC (because everyone does these days, right?), and it was nice to have that raw curiosity again. Her radiant energy is so damn infectious. Her food is prepared with passed-down recipes from her grandmother. Portions are massive and that is not an understatement. We all got plates with 2 sides and bread and even with our big appetites, most of us only got through halfway or a little more.

You have to understand, that I am a total burger snob. As a reference point, my favorite burger in the Piedmont Triad is Hops Burger Bar in Greensboro, and I'll drive the 20 miles and stand around waiting on a table for 30 minutes, at the first suggestion, no questions asked. Also way up there is/was Big Burger Spot, but they've now slipped into third place since Guy is no longer the owner and overseer and now that I've had the burgers at Thunder Road. First off, they will cook your burger to your desired doneness. For me, that's the minimum standard that a burger joint has to meet, and my medium-rare burgers have been spot-on every time. From there, the buns, the topping, the sides have always been fresh, tasty and again, done to order to meet my picky requests! "Can I get those tots crispy?" "Since I haven't tried it, can you put that sauce on the side?" "Can you cook that bacon crispy but not burnt?" Each request was met with something like a "You bet!" and the execution of the request was perfect. I really like that each table is equipped with a roll of paper towels and several condiments including the local Texas Pete, as well as salt, pepper, and some form of seasoning salt. Often when I see these things on tables in diners they are grimy and the table beneath then is sticky and dirty, but they make an extra effort to keep them clean and well stocked. For example, last week I grabbed the red bottle of Heinz ketchup, expecting that I would need to request a swap with a full bottle, but no, it was totally full! Just like when I was a kid, I love crunchy potato chips on my peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and I like fries with my ketchup! Let's face the facts that one of these days I'm bound to be disappointed in something, but from what I can see from the friendly and attentive staff, it's going to something I can overlook or that they'll be willing to address. Oh, that reminds me about the bathrooms! I often dread entering the men's room in a one-off diner or pub, but I was elated to find a clean and fresh smelling space that was well lit and well supplied. They've won us over. Last Saturday we bought three of our granddaughters, and today will be joined by my sister and brother-in-law, who are also locals and bound to become fans of Thunder Road Grill! As I re-read this before posting it, I wonder, why do I leave good reviews for places that I don't want to see become crowded and popular? Sometimes I question my sanity! Be sure to say howdy to me if we run into each other. And Fred B, I think you need to give them one more try.

The bacon was thick and had just a slight chew to it. Just the right amount of mayo and tomatoes cut to a good thickness. Hot dog was pretty great. They put a real generous amount of mustard *under* the frank then topped with chili and a nice creamy slaw. If the bun had been toasted it would have been darn near perfect. Appreciated the self-serve seasoning salt at each table. Tots were good without but especially good with. Thunder Road Grill was worth the drive and I hope to return!
