This local hamburger shop, which has been open since 2010, was named the best burger in North Carolina by Reader's Digest in 2021. They offer dine-in and takeout, with a drive-thru available for orders placed by phone or online. Their menu includes traditional diner options such as burgers, chicken/ pork sandwiches, hot dogs, BLTs, house-made chips, fries, onion rings, and ice cream. Their service was amazing, the cashier was incredibly friendly and provided suggestions on what to order. They quoted a 20-25 minute lead time for our order, but it was ready in less than 10 minutes. It came out hot, fresh, and delicious. They offer indoor and outdoor seating, with an indoor/outdoor intercom so you can hear when your order is ready, regardless of where you sit. I ordered their Big Nick Mac, a take on the Big Mac with seasoned fries, house-made thousand-island dressing, lettuce, pickles, diced onions, and cheese. The chili-cheese hot dog and onion rings are also excellent. This place has the best hamburgers! Located in Welcome NC. Today my wife and I split the Mushroom Burger and my FIL got the Chicken Tenders. We got Onion Rings. They were fresh and crispy. Our little person got a plain Hot dog and Fries. Everything was great. I usually get the Grilled chicken sandwich. Back at Nick's again. (Twice in a three day window, might I add). This time I strayed from my regular bacon cheeseburger and got the Honey Chicken Sandwich which has delicious pimento cheese, jalapeños, and honey. I also had fries with cheese on the side so I could dunk them and a side of munchers I shared with friends at the table. It was all so delicious. We arrived right after they opened and were served really quickly. We sat outside and enjoyed the outdoors as it was still relatively cool outside. There weren't bugs or flies or bees anywhere. It was so pleasant compared to eating outside at a lot of places. The picnic tables were super sturdy and sat large groups effortlessly. This place is really popular on the weekends, so be prepared to stand in line, but they have some great outdoor seating and really solid burgers, so it's worth it. You can even watch them grill the burger, and they put real cheese on it, not American cheese. Hand formed patties that are cooked on a steel top and deftly assembled into a perfect burger. Nick's is an establishment that has absolutely earned and deserves their spot on the Yelp best places lists. I remember when they had just opened, and it has been a pleasure to see the business explode over the years. From day one, the burgers have been absolutely top notch, using fresh hand balled meat perfectly pressed and grilled, and they have never wavered. With the well deserved popularity, this is no longer a quick in and out stop, and I usually plan to wait 20-25 minutes if I'm just placing a walk in order. They also run fairly short hours compared to other restaurants, but I find myself happy their employees get real lives outside work too. The outside seating has expanded quite a bit including outside speakers so you can hear them call your order number. Today's visit, I decided to mix it up and try the Lettuce Wrap option. Honestly, that presentation was disappointing and I'll go back to burgers from now on. It was all the burger toppings sandwiched between two leaves of lettuce, and there was no "wrap" to it. For added fun, when I carried my order outside, the air curtain on the door blew so hard that my lettuce, pickles, and a splatter of mustard blew away. I'll remember to cover my tray carefully before going outside next time. That said, I won't dock a star over a single menu item when they are otherwise a fantastic establishment. This place is small and always packed, for good reason! The food is always on point! The sanitation grade is consistently great and so is the service. My husband's absolute favorite place for a smash burger. Though I don't do beef, they have other menu items that I get to enjoy. From their Tomato Sandwich with local-made Pimento Cheese, Munchers, Seasoned Fries, Chicken Sandwiches, and Salads. Today, I tried their new Chicken Sandwich they have on special right now. You can get it spicy or regular. I chose spicy, cause why not? I like heat. It came dripping with sweet honey, topped with locally made pimento cheese and sliced jalapenos. Really really wanted to like this place but couldn't. I read a lot of good reviews so decided to give their famous burger a go. First impression was it was very very wet and greasy. I don't think I ever had a burger that soaked before so be warned if you're health conscious. First bite was good but the more patty I had (double patty) the more plain and meaty it tasted. It wasn't a great meat taste either, very basic almost like frozen hamburger meat. I saw they use frozen products as well, so it's not fresh. Gordon Ramsay would be so disappointed lol also a lot of flies and hardly a lot of room to walk around without bumping into other costumers. Not worth the 45+ minute wait. Also shame on the company for writing toxic responses to reviews. You have crosses to give away in your company yet you are very mean and unprofessional to those who disagree with you. read more

Step back in time at Nick's Hamburger House! A short drive from anywhere in the Triad, this place is definitely worth the trip. They have an expansive menu sure to make anyone happy. As far as burger joints go, this one ranks up there! The burgers weren't overly greasy. The crinkle fries were delightful. Loved the seasoned salt. Toddler loved her kids burger, fries, and ice cream. Husband loved the hotdog even more. I got a patty melt. Not a traditional kind, and warning, it was messy, but it was also really good. Nicks lived up to the hype. Delicious, melt in your mouth burger and crispy, crunchy onion rings. Lots of topping options for the burgers and the hot dogs. Great, laid/back outside seating with picnic tables and lots of shade! I took off one star for lack of allergy understanding. Allergens are not listed on the menu. Upon ordering I told the cashier I had a dairy allergy and asked if there was any dairy (milk or butter) in the hotdog or hamburger buns. She looked at the package for a few minutes in the hamburger buns and I saw her ask two other men in the back. She didn't check the hotdog buns. She came back and said "I'm not sure if they have dairy but we have a gluten free bun or lettuce wrap as an option". Rather than holding up the line and asking to read the ingredients myself, I settled for the lettuce wrap with my hamburger. Then she proceeded to ask if I wanted cheese....I understand it's my issue to have an allergy so it is what it is. My lettuce wrap burger was good but would have likely been more satiating and fulfilling with a good bun. My husband was impressed with his double patty melt on Texas toast! I've been at this small spot a handful of times, and I simply cannot believe I've not posted a review. I know I posted a review of the Yelp Elite event in May, but there is not one for the restaurant itself! So, after my visit several days ago, I will indeed post a review. Like almost everyone, I love the burger here, and the outstanding value it represents. This place began operation in 2010, and was sold in 2020 without losing a step! The locally sourced beef is never frozen and is ground daily. The vegetables are chopped fresh everyday, and the chili and dressings are also made daily in house. The burger patties are hand firmed and the huge pork chop is hand breaded. And finally, each item is cooked to order. This means the food is not out as fast as some places,and since there is only one person taking in-house orders, the ordering process is rather slow when they are busy, and they are almost always busy. Calling in your order allows you to bypass the ordering point, you head to the right back and your call in order will be checked out there. It appears your order is not begun until you are paid up! I ordered the Double Cheeseburger (2 5.3 ounce patties for $9.30) and the Pork Chop Sandwich ($6.65). Once paid up the order took about 15 minutes. These are large sandwiches and I will get two meals from them. I get the tomato and mayo on the side, and then cut the burger in half, and on the half I will eat I add the tomato and mayo. I wrap the other half in foil and place it in a plastic bag. This process keeps the second half from becoming soggy. I do the same with the pork chop after first cutting the pork chop in two and stacking both halves on the bun. These are truly righteous sandwiches - large, with fresh ingredients properly prepared. We found ourselves in the area and after our recent visit for a Yelp Elite event, we decided we needed to stop back at Nick's. We arrived shortly after 12pm on Saturday and there was a small line of customers waiting to place their orders. We grabbed one of the paper menus so we could make our selections while in line. The kitchen was busy preparing not only the in store orders but also a good amount of to go orders as well. We also noticed they have a drive-thru which would be convenient for those with small children or pets. Nick's has a wide selection of hamburgers, hotdogs, salads, and sides, which all look and sound delicious. I really enjoyed the Noah burger on my last visit so I decided to get it exactly the same way as last time with no jalapeno or mayo and opted to have it on Texas toast rather than a traditional bun with an order of the crinkle fries. My wife also decided to reorder what she had recently, the hamburger salad (on the menu it is listed as the cheeseburger salad but she opted for no cheese). She also ordered a small onion ring with ranch. The young woman at the register was friendly, helpful and efficient. She provided us the receipt and wrote our order number on the cup for my fountain drink. The indoor tables were all occupied so we went outside to have a seat at one of the picnic tables. The exterior seating is equipped with fans to help keep customers cool and a speaker system which allows you to hear the orders as they are ready. We also noticed one of the employees walked through the outdoor area at least twice checking in on customers. The restroom is clean and well stocked. There are also numerous accolades posted on the wall from various newspapers, magazines, etc. Our order number was called about 40 minutes later (the young woman on the counter told us when we ordered that it it would take 40 minutes so we were prepared for the wait). Nick's is also busy on the weekdays but since they are closed on Sunday, the only opportunity on the weekend is Saturday. We picked our food up at the counter, grabbed a bottle of ketchup and headed outside to our table. Everything looked delicious! Neither of us ordered their crinkle fries or onion rings in the past, and they were prepared to perfection! Nick's prepares their onion rings crispy, which to us is perfect, but if you do not like crispy onion rings, we would suggest ordering fries or tater tots. Everything tasted as good as it looked. Nick's also has milkshakes, but we've not tried them because we're always too full at the end of our meal. Another 5 star experience which we would highly recommend. read more

My husband saw Nick's was listed as one #17 for best burger in the nation so we had to try it when we were in the area. It is a small place with maybe 9 tables inside and some picnic tables outside. You can see the burgers being cooked and smashed on the grill from the counter. They use fresh beef too. We chose to try the Big Nick Mac, a hot dog all the way, and hot chips made fresh with ranch. I love soft/floppy chips and these were beyond perfect. The cashier was so friendly and was sure to ask us how we preferred for our chips to be cooked. The whole atmosphere is that of families making memories with their young children and that's exactly where the first lick of my cookies and cream took me, back to my childhood. The fact the weather was in the mid 70's and sunny with a gently breeze blowing throw the outside picnic area on enhanced the memories! From the Nehi sodas to the chili cheese fries everything was freshly made and delicious! Nick's was established back in 2010 before this new smash burger craze and you can taste it! My husband and I had to wait 45 minutes but let me tell you it was well worth it! I ordered 2 hotdogs all the way with white slaw. My husband ordered chili cheese fries and a double bacon cheeseburger. This was hands down the best burger I ever ate! This was better than any "we got McDonald's at home" burger mama ever made! The quality of beef used is phenomenal. You're not going to find that at any fast food restaurant. The edges of the beef were crisp perfectly and the cheese melted silky smooth over that flavorful beef, topped with bacon, chopped onions, pickles, mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup! My GOODNESS! Fast forward three years, and another half dozen visits for me, and this is still one of the top places to get a burger in the Triad, if not the tip top. I would come here even more than I do if it were just a bit more convenient to where I live, but still, some days you just feel like having a perfect burger, and don't care how long you need to drive to obtain it. By this point, Nick's has been voted one of the best burger joints not just in the Triad, but in North Carolina, by Yelp and several other outlets. For 2023, they were ranked as the top burger place on the Triad Top 25 Places to Eat, and inside the top 5 overall across all categories. It won't take you much longer than 1 bite to figure out why. Perfect brown crusts on properly smashed burgers, great seasoning, super melty cheese, a bun that is neither overpowering or underwhelming... top it any way you want. It's a masterpiece. Don't miss out on their selection of sides either. Whether you want hot chips with ranch, Munchers with ranch, fries with ranch (you need to get some ranch), they've got anything you'd want to accompany that bangin' burger. The restaurant has outgrown itself, even with additional picnic table seating that is covered on the outdoors, they are routinely packed. That's OK! I hear they are expanding to a larger place next year that is very close by. It should NOT deter you from going to visit, but if you get nervous in crowds, definitely go on a day where you can enjoy the outdoor seating or at a less typical time. Don't miss out on this one. Thank you for this Yelp elite perk! I always wanted to try this spot but never got around to it. Thankfully I was able to take advantage of this Yelp elite perk to try these burgers out! The place is small but definitely transports you back to the 70s/80s with the decor. Very "old school". The lady taking orders was very nice & explained some of the menu to me. I ordered a cheeseburger with lettuce tomatoes & sliced onions with seasoned fries. Everything is cooked to order. I was lucky to get a table inside cause it was HOT out. The burger was good the fries were good. I'm not sure what I expected but I wasn't blown away, but I enjoyed the meal. Would I say these are the best burgers you'll have in your life?
