Man oh man, I used to love Nick's. As soon as I knew that I was going to Hasting's Nick's was on my mind. I had been here in the past and enoyed it. I was greeted by a young man with a big smile, he was friendly despite being the only person there and he has a busted hand that was obviously bothering him. I read the sign and took a seat, it was going to take some time to get my Gyro and fries and that was fine. I know the kid was struggling as it was taking way longer than I remember. Another person showed up and she finished my order. My gyro was not what I had in the past. The meat was chopped up into tiny tiny pieces, not the large thin strips of tasty meat I expected and the grease was overpowering making it barely edible. The tomato and onions were fresh and the feta was good, but dang was I disappointed. The fries were delicious like they usually are. I guess being short handed hurt my experience ? I recently spent 2 weeks in Greece and tried as many gyros as I reasonably could. Each time, my wife and I said "it's not Nick's". When I returned to the U.S., I went to Nick's and confirmed what we suspected: Nick's Gyros, in a gas station in Hastings, Nebraska, is the best Greek food you can get, anywhere. A week later, I met a buddy in Omaha who has no connection to Hastings of which I am aware. He said, "Have you been to Nick's?" We spent the next 5 minutes describing to our friends how freaking amazing the food is at Nick's. OMG this place is just amazing! Please please please try them! They're not a chain. They actually make food from ingredients and not bagged frozen garbage. I tried the gyro and Philly and both were perfect and I'm a gyro snob and a Philly snob... They've gotta be right. They were. The gyro was absolutely enormous with a perfect cook on the pita and meat. Tons of feta and very nice tomatoes and onions with plenty of tzatiki sauce. The Philly was seasoned wonderfully and cooked again to perfection with melted cheese and little crisp bits on the ends of the meat. No not burnt... That perfect brown crisp that's only available through letting something cook on it's own time. The place was clean and staff was actively cleaning anytime they had a lull. The manager was very encouraging and I heard him telling the boys to"think about it"in a jovial yet instructive tone to which they seemed eager to receive. There's a team feel there you rarely feel anymore. I'll eat there every single time I visit Hastings. Period. Oh did I mention it's cheap? Eleven bucks gets you that monster gyro or whatever you want on their menu. read more

Found this on out way thru town. When we pulled up we were bit worried, since it's in a gas station "food court" we were pleasantly surprised and really happy we stopped. The gyro salad was yummy. The service was welcoming as well. Only downside were the not so fancy gouda bites. But for frozen ones not overly bad. Next time we come through we'll habe to try some other menu items read more

I stopped by Nick's Gyros this evening for a Traditional Gyros. wow, the service was outstanding, friendly, and quick! The Gyro I had , was perfectly seasoned, a good portion, and well presented. Never had a bad meal here, chicken bacon ranch salad is great and the pita that comes with it is always warm and a little crispy, they also have actual good ranch which can make or break a salad. I only wish I lived closer. read more

I am from North Carolina and a friend referred me to Nick's gyro to find out, this is one of the best gyros I've had in a long time, it's big enough for three people if you can buy the extra bread ,tzatziki sauce is excellent, they put lots of feta cheese on it,if you are the area of Hastings Nebraska you need too try there gyro. read more

I moved away a few years ago and I miss this place! We used to go there all the time! There is one in Kearney but it is NOT anywhere near as good which is crazy to me because I believe the same guy runs both. I always got the Chicken Pita with either corn nuggets or mushrooms. To be honest and not a food snob, this isn't a true gyro. It's more like a taco with gyro meat. The bread was actually really delicious and also used to make their grilled cheese. My daughter really loved it. The gyro meat was moist and not too bad. It shouldn't have lettuce or cheese, and they either forgot or don't have tomatoes. The tzatziki sauce was bland(didn't taste yogurt based) and onions were cut into big chunks. I love onion but not concentrated. The girls who were working were really nice. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again, but wouldn't avoid it if I was there. read more

The Greek salad is one of a kind. Anything on the menu can be shared due to the extremely large portion sizes.

I travel a lot and try to find a gyro place where ever I go. This had to be the worst I had anywhere. Greasy and nothing even close to a gyro. Bunch of shredded cheese, no tomatoes or onions. The tzatziki sauce was heavy cream mess. I really can't see how there are people rating it anything beyond two stars. The place was dirty and even the tea looked like toilet water as the container was left open without a top and exposed to the environment. read more

Nick Gyros is a great, greasy order at the counter gyro stand. It's in a gas station, but don't let that fool you. They make some pretty damn good gyros. I went to college in Hastings, and we loved coming to Nick's for the cheap specials they'd have every day. The gyro meat is good, but the sauce on the gyro isn't the best I've ever had. It's still a solid sandwich and worth eating when you're in Hastings. I do remember eating the beef and cheddar pita they have, and I loved it. It was one of their weekly specials and you could get it for $2.50 on that day. Delicious gyro meat with delicious melted cheddar on a warm pita....mmmmm. The service isn't phenomenal, but it's not that big of deal. This is an order at the counter place, so I'm not expecting much. My family and I use to love to eat there but the gyros (the bread) are now super greasy. I have even tried to call at least 20 times to ask if they will make them the way they use to but it always goes straight to voice mail or they ignore my calls. In the past I would of given them 5 stars but now their gyros are disgustingly greasy. We are very disappointed as we use to love to eat there. read more

I was more than impressed with the quantity and quality. I was there exactly at opening time and they were a bit behind in getting things going. Made it more than right and the gentleman running the show was by far more than on top of his game by offering a few additional amenities free of charge bc I had to wait only a few minutes. Nicks gyros is by far the best traditional style gyro place I've ever had the pleasure of dining at it deserves more recognition than it seems to get from the surrounding populacewho seem to be trapped in their Americanized versions of brilliant foods which needed no improvement though Nicks has also had to make a few Americanized options such as the cheddar gyros the classic Greek feta is where the prowess of the menu is found. I would definitely eat here again and finally I must mention the friendly staff they treat you like family with a professional yet war atmosphere to the whole interaction. read more

Greek style gyros are good, but getting what you order is difficult. Two or three times we did not get Greek style...

I've gotten food here and had positive experiences in the past, but today may have been my last visit. First off, I tried to call my order in ahead of time, as I needed several gyros. The number was disconnected, so I had to order in person and wait for nearly 15 minutes while they made my food. I asked about the call and the server said, "We don't have a phone." What kind of business has NO phone?! The cook yelled at me, "I haven't taken a phone order in two years - and I never will!" Secondly, I brought a cooler to carry the food out in, and I asked the server NOT to put my order in Styrofoam containers. She did so anyway. I pointed that out to her and the cook jumped in again. "No Styrofoam? Well, what DO you want?" He made a big show out of taking them out of the containers, re-wrapping them and tossing the Styrofoam into the trash. My whole point was to keep a little of that non-recyclable out of the landfill. When my friends and I unwrapped the gyros, we were disappointed to find no lettuce and no cucumbers, as they used to have. Very disappointing. read more

The food is generally pretty good. My son who lives in Lincoln claims Nick's are better than any gyro in Lincoln. Who am I to argue? My main complaint is that the place is a pig-sty. Seriously clean it up! read more

I have been to a 5 star Greek restaurant as well as another fast food gyro place. The Gyros at Nick's are by far the best I have ever found. The dough is homemade and fresh and I have found nothing comparable. The servings are huge and I would split with my husband but he loves the original and I love the Philly. Prices are a little high to eat here all the time but definitely worth it! read more

Moved out of state a year ago and miss this place. Nick's Gyro's got me through my last pregnancy several years ago because the baby and myself seemed to really enjoy it (and crave it a lot)! I don't live in Hastings but my OB doc office is there and I scheduled every single appointment at 11:00 so I could go to Nick's right after my appointment. It's in a gas station but don't let that scare you off. Seems to be the only gyro place that makes fresh, homemade pita bread. My only complaint is that I wish it came with tzatziki sauce. Oh and I wish they had grilled chicken as an option. However, their regular gyro's are delicious with lots of meat! It's best when the guy is there (he seems to work days). At night, they have younger staff who just don't make it as good and they toughen up the bread when cooking it. Go during the day! I agree with other yelpers this place isn't clean. I try to ignore it because I love the meat and bread so much. read more
