I had higher hopes and expectations for a Gilmore Collection restaurant. My wife and I tried this place last night (11/7). After sitting at a table, a bartender came over and took our drink order. We'd never been here before, so we weren't sure what the protocol was for ordering food. A customer was standing near the bar holding a menu, and there didn't appear to be any servers around, so the bartenders were helping the bar and waiting tables. I approached the bar to ask about ordering food, and was told "I'll be right over, you'll need to wait a minute". Now this place was not super busy, there were 2 couples in 2 separate spots at the bar, and 3 tables not including us. There were additional tables around the corner, but I didn't see how many. My wife tried to order a Margherita pizza, only to be told they didn't have one. We were given a paper menu, which had a "build your own type of pizza" option, with literally all the ingredients to build a Margherita pizza.... ?? So she ended up getting nachos, and I got the mushroom Swiss burger. The food was not worth the money. For the amount they charge, I can go to numerous other places for far better quality. The burger wasn't seasoned, and tasted like a frozen patty out of a box. I asked for fries twice, and still ended up with chips. The chips in the nachos were super stale, and it was appetizing to look at or eat. About halfway through dinner, we noticed what looked like a turd on the floor on the other side of the chair near the pool table. We had a in-depth discussion as to whether it was a cat turd (which meant a possible mice problem) or a rat turd (which is worse). We pointed it out to the bartender as we left, and he was horrified. After cleaning it up with a broom and dustpan, he told us that "the owner's son [has] been painting the outside, and sometimes he brings his dog". I could understand if it was a service animal and it had an accident, but allowing the owner's son to bring Fido into a place of business, where they serve food no less, is disgusting. At least do a quick walk around to make sure there were no oopsies. Needless to say, first impressions being what they were, we won't be back. I'm disappointed in the Gilmore Collection, as I like alot of their other restaurants. But this one is a unanimous vote as a "never again".

A great place with a fabulous history. Food is beyond belief at very reasonable prices. Cozy, not snobby. Friendly staff. And above-average pour on mixed beverages. Daily specials on beer, wine, and well drinks. If you want to experience a little bit of the "prohibition era" and aren't afraid of being joined by spirits that are not in a bottled variety, you should definitely check out this spot.

Don't go on Friday. It took 10 minutes for the waitress To greet usable another hour to get our food. The pizza was doughy and there was too much cheese and it had a burnt bitter taste. My wife liked the veggie enchiladas. I liked the raggedy atmosphere but they needed more staff and a little urgency. I'll try it again by myself in the afternoon when they are slower so they aren't confused

    Awesome decor!!

Woah...a step back in time. This place is awesome! Great prices, nice staff. definitely local. We got the margarita pizza. It's good! And the beer selection is decent, not overwhelming like other places. Gave 4 stars simply because I didn't try a whole lot of menu items. The decor gets five stars though. Check out the booth we sat at for drinks and pizza!. New respect for the Gilmore Collection for maintaining the authenticity/character. I will be back, soon.

Just cheesing it up as the band plays :)

I was thinking about going there tomorrow night for burgers but am concerned about the reviews. Am quite surprised about the negatives being a Gilmore restaurant?

I just got here from out of state and my first impression is "dump". It's very warm in here too.

They have a smaller dining space, so a reservation is recommended (you have to call, no online option) but when we arrived, they were ready and seated us promptly! We each got some sort of steak, potato and veggie combo and it was all VERY delicious! They offer you complementary homemade bread (this did take a bit of time, but they were warm when they came out) and we easily devoured it! I will say that it was a little slower than anticipated, but still very good. I would hope the bread would come out sooner than our appetizers. I ordered the caesar salad (very large) and included bleu cheese which was not listed on the menu. I would definitely list that on the menu unless it was an accident? We got bleu cheese on the bruschetta which listed another cheese, so again, I do think that they need to disclose this. I like it but most do not! I also ordered the $29 steak deal, which for the size and meal, I am very happy with! I ordered it medium rare and it was cooked properly. More rare than medium, which is how I like it! I think I'd like to come back and try it again, but for a good steak meal, it's approachable without feeling like it's TOO casual with peanuts on the ground. Parking is available across the street, but you do have to cross West River Drive, which can be a lot, but cars were patient while we made our way across. I'll definitely be back!

We had a reservation, which is highly recommended as it's not a huge space. You do have to call to make a reservation. The space is cozy and not super fancy, which made it comfortable for a long girls' dinner with lots of catching up. Some of us started with salads and an appetizer. They also gave us some complimentary rolls and butter. My Caesar salad was fresh and tasty, and a large portion for a side, but it had a lot of blue cheese crumbles, which wasn't listed on the menu. I personally love blue cheese, so I didn't mind, but it's a pretty polarizing ingredient so it surprised me a bit. The bruschetta was a really big portion and very delicious. I liked the amount of topping and the bread help up nicely. This dish also had blue cheese crumbles on it when we tried it. The steak menu is interesting and varied, and I like that all the cuts come with a potato and vegetable side, which isn't typical at fancier places. I went with the 10 oz barrel cut filet with mashed potatoes and asparagus, and I also ordered a side of the mac and cheese. Our main courses took a little bit of time to come out, but I was pleased with the meal. My medium rare filet was definitely more on the rare side, but I didn't mind. The mac and cheese was tasty but the sauce was a bit broken. It also had peas in it... not listed on the menu and also kind of weird. I liked it though! We were interested in the dessert options, but it sounded like they haven't really rounded that out yet as they just had a couple cupcakes. Our server was very kind and helpful and pretty attentive. I think the value is great and it's a less stuffy, more casual option than Chop House (plus more affordable). I will definitely be back!

It was clean inside, bathrooms were freezing and the inside itself was small. The parking sucked and for handicapped people would not be good at all. They did have a ramp but no close handicap places so we had to walk across a very slippery parking lot. The parking was very limited. This alone would not be a reason for returning. The mushrooms were huge and lightly breaded. They were good but I would prefer the smaller size. Personal preference and again they were good. The Reuben sandwich was very good (husband had it) and up sized to fries which were also good. I had the pot roast sandwich with waffle chips. The sandwich was amazing (I added onions & gr peppers). The waffle fries were evidently the bottom of the bag because they were all small pieces which I couldn't even hold onto to dip in the French onion dip which I paid extra for. The wet burrito was very good (son in law had this). The pasta carbonara was not good (daughter had) and the garlic bread came with a large black hair across it. The employees were very apologetic and of course by the time she got her new pasta we were all done eating & freezing. It was her birthday meal so it was disappointing. They did comp her meal so there is that. All in all it was good not great and did I mention FREEZING? The server was very slow in coming around and we had to track her down to get our check. She was pleasant as were the other employees we came into contact with. Because of location & parking we will not return but the sandwiches would be worth it if it were not for that.

Lofted above is a great looking outdoors complete with heat lamps and a mini A framed covered area that can be rented for parties. We were greeted warmly by friendly staff and given a kids menu, draft and spirits menu, regular menu and restaurant week menu. Menus galore! We went with the 3 course meal (many items can be ordered on the regular menu) for $25. I ordered the tomato paprika soup and my husband got the split pea soup. Of the two, the split pea soup was the clear winner. Two kinds of pork (cubed and shredded), well balanced seasoning and texture married well to enhance a soup I've loved since childhood. I could've easily eaten a bowl for my meal. The accompanying homemade Dutch Rye Bread, though I'm sure it's authentic, I didn't care for. It was dense, soft and had an off putting flavor. The second course we had was equally delicious. My hubby had the beef and pork sausage overtop a bed of mashed potatoes with kale, onions and bacon. I loved the addition of kale and the sausage was tasty. Everything was well seasoned. My beef slow cooked with apples and beer was delicious. I wish it had been served with more beef. It would have been nice to have some bigger chunks of meat to dive into. The mashed potatoes they came with were good, but the potatoes with kale were the star between the two dishes. The kid's meals were also good. The hamburger had a nice smokey flavor with a tasty side of fries. My daughter didn't care for her Mac 'n cheese, but that's because it was too refined for her palette. The Gouda cheese was complimented by the egg noodles. The third course was dessert. I tried the restaurant Flip custard: Dutch custard, fruit compote, and topped with a dollop of Greek Yogurt. It came with a cute spoon that gave the perfect portions and the flavors all complemented each other well. I would order this again and again. It was a great balance of tangy, fruity and sweet. My husband had the stroopwafle icecream. It was also good, and came with a cute mini stroopwafle. I washed all this down with their Bier Distillery Lager and tried a flavored banket spirit. This restaurant originally was just a beer and specialty liquor spot. I love that they now serve food, because that was the highlight of our evening. I wish this establishment was closer to our home, but perhaps will come back when the weather is nicer to enjoy the outdoor patio. Definitely come and check out this The Bier Distillery for yummy Dutch inspired food and drink! Worth the drive.
