This incident happened several years ago. After reading the reviews for Dr. Nichols and the consistent pattern of the complaints I decided to post this. My elderly father was a patient of Dr. Nichols. My father suffered from dementia and at the time, had a heart problem. I accompanied him to Dr. Nichols for an office visit and signed all the HIPPA paperwork to be able to be advised of his treatment. I did not live in the area, but would visit frequently. On one of my visits, my father, who went by himself to see Dr. Nichols, told me that Nichols had recommended he have an MRI. I asked why, and my father could not remember. I called the office to speak to Dr. Nichols to find out the reason for an MRI and I was told by the person who answered the phone he was busy and would have to call me back. For a week, I never heard back and called again.....again leaving a message. This weekly ritual went on for a month. In my final call, the person answering the phone was rude and informed me that "Dr. Nichols does not return phone calls." I said that I had been calling for a month and that no one ever told me that. I indicated I was trying to find out why my Dad was told he needed an MRI. She was not helpful. Exasperated, I said, "Do I need to consult a lawyer on this?". She lost it and said, "Are you threatening to sue?" I said, "No, I am trying to find out my rights, having signed all the HIPPA paperwork with you." The phone conversation ended. The next day, I had a voice mail from Dr. Nichols, telling me never to come back to his office and that no one in my family was welcome back at his office, that he did not allow people who threatened to sue him in his office! Further, he said "I do not make any money returning phone calls!" I learned 2 things: 1) Dr. Nichols will return a phone call if he thinks you will sue him and 2) He's all about the money. I wrote him a long letter, documenting my phone calls and what I had been told, that the lawyer comment was to find out what legal right I had to my Dad's health information. Turns out, after talking to lawyer, I had a legal right to know what my Dad's medical situation was and the only responsibility of the doctor's office was to verify my identity. The staff there is either rude or unhelpful. I can't help but think there is racial compenent in their behavior. This all goes back to Dr. Nichols. He is the boss and sets the tone of his office. On top of that, he is not a very good doctor. None of my family goes there anymore and I would rather see a doctor in Mexico than this guy! read more

Stay away from this office! I really thought that this office would be different. I liked the doctor and he seemed to listen and I was excited to have a new place to take care of my needs but this place is not good at all. The girl who answers the phone is typical and controlling, she doesn't understand things, she makes things up, she gets things twisted and you feel absolutely crazy and she is completely unwilling to listen to what I have to say and would rather me come in for another visit and give up another day of my work to avoid helping me. I cannot deal with offices like this anymore in my life. It takes a huge toll on me and my medical conditions and management. I have a serious illness that requires a completely competent and caring group of people...I shouldn't be given a hard time about having medication that my life depends on like Insulin! I was a happy long-time patient of Dr. Nichols. Unfortunately, last year, I had to switch primary care physicians due to a change of insurance (not my choice), and Dr. Nichols was not on my plan. However, this year, I was put on an insurance plan that included Dr. Nichols again, and was happy to again have the ability to see him. After making an appointment one month in advance (and confirmed that he did accept my new insurance and still had my records), I arrived for my visit. After waiting a short time, I was told by the head office staff member that I could no longer be his patient as I had "transferred out." I reminded them of my insurance situation, and that Dr. Nichols was now on my plan. I was refused service. I was also told that it was Dr Nichols' policy that if you EVER go to see another primary care physician -- regardless of reason -- that he will not see you again. I couldn't believe it, especially considering my long history of visiting him. Even if this is a policy of a physician, it seems highly unethical. Not only did I take off work to go to this visit, which had been confirmed with no problems when the appointment was made, the office staff was extremely rude. Imagine visiting a business or service and then being told that you could no long visit there simply because you had a change of insurance. The change of insurance was not my choice. If this is the way he treats his patients, I regret going to him for the past ten years, and cannot recommend Dr. Nichols to anyone. It could happen to you. read more

I am made an appointment a month ahead of time for my boyfriends 91-year-old mother. I asked if they would be able to see her even though she didn't have insurance if we were willing to pay out-of-pocket. I was assured it would not be a problem and I went ahead and scheduled the appointment. Three days before the appointment I went in to double check for myself and ensure that I would not get a 91-year-old woman ready for no reason. I was told again that even though she didn't have insurance we could just pay cash out-of-pocket. I finally bring her in on her appointment and the lady at the desk was very rude. Her comment was do you know how much this is going to cost. I told her that the lady at the desk said about $130. The lady that said it was right there and confirmed that was what she said the cost was. The rude lady jumped in and said no it will be $200. I told her that would be fine I was willing to pay it. A few minutes later she comes back and says sorry we cannot help her. It is against the law for us to take payments without medical insurance. This office has no empathy for the patient they only care about money. The only reason they turn their back was because they knew they couldn't rack up charges. They saw my mother-in-law and it was $'s how many things they could probably treat at her age too bad they don't understand that she is doing great at 91 years old and we just wanted to check one thing.
