Pita - about as big as a sewer cover Iced Turkish coffee - next time I'd order without the chocolate syrup...had no idea it came with it, but it was tasty! Lentil Soup....ok bad idea. The smell of Zatar spices and freshly baked pita bread will lure you into this establishment as you stroll the mom & pop shops along the streets of historic Gresham. My friend and I were greeted and seated right away on a Tuesday afternoon. There were a few other patrons enjoying their meal at tables inside and outside of the restaurant. There is a large selection of food available on the menu from appetizers like hummus and baba ganoush, to salads like tabouli and fatoush, to entrees such as shawerma and kabob, to desserts like baklava. Even mezzas are available if you want a large sampler plate to share with friends. We ordered hummus and it was delivered to our table promptly with freshly, baked pita bread the size of an extra large pizza crust. The hummus was creamy and smooth as it should be. I ordered tabouli salad for a dollar more with my lamb shawerma. The combo plate came with hummus too, but the waitress was nice enough to switch out the hummus on my combo plate with baba ganoush since we had already ordered a plate of hummus for our appetizer. The lamb was finely shredded and juicy and without grizzle. It was wrapped in paper and sliced in half, so I put half on my friend's plate and she gave me one of her chicken kabobs and some saffron rice. The chicken was flavorful and tender. I wasn't that impressed with the saffron rice; although plump, it lacked visual and taste appeal. There was so much food, we were given boxes to take the rest home. We also ordered food to go for another friend. The staff said it would be twenty minutes. The restaurant was kind enough to set aside our leftover food, let us walk around the shops in town and pick up our takeaway food an hour later. Having grown up in Saudi Arabia, we both agreed that the food here reminded us of home and beckoned us to return. We will both be back WITH friends! read more

This is the 2nd time I have been at this site. I am GF, always an issue.. not here. This is one of the BEST GF places around. Also the best for 'regular' eaters. Our dishes were great - A Meza platter and gyro bowl. Both were fine. I also took home a gyro "side". I wanted to take home -1/2 + lbs of gyro meat but, they aren't set up to do larger amounts of meat to go. There aren't restaurants in SW Portland that do GF gyro meat, except Nichole's. We ordered DoorDash staying in Troutdale. The portions are really sizable, so go easy on your selections. The salmon salad was good - I mostly focused on the salmon, which was nicely cooked on skewers. The Baba ganoush was delicious and the vegetarian dolmas were also quite nice. This has been one of our local go to restaurants over the years for something other than pizza or hamburger and fries. While the food is still pretty good, they have changed the menu. You can no longer get a gyro for dinner, just lunch. They have also increased the prices. I understand the reasons for this. We had dinner in house on Halloween night at 7:00pm to escape the little hob goblins. There was only one other couple in the restaurant. It took forever to get dinner. Not sure why? Maybe it was all the dish's we heard breaking in the back? Whatever the reason it was well after 8:00. Chairs being put up on the tables. (Closes at 8:00). We hurriedly ate dinner to avoid being locked in for the night. (Kidding) Won't be going back anytime soon. For the price, we will just hang out with the little ghosts and goblins! read more

Wow! Guess I found a new place to bring my friends! Seriously tho, a few of my friends suffer from some rather intense food allergies (some life-threatening) that can make dining out with a group extra-challenging. So, finding a place that is open to providing multiple options (Vegan, Vegetarian, etc) and ALSO does gluten-free pitas is a real blessing! I took some friends out for lunch last weekend, and we had a fabulous time. The bread was good, the Turkish coffee was good, the hummus and fermented cherry-pepper sauce was good...you know, all those little side things at this kind of restaurant that are indicators of its quality, so I was pretty confident everything else would be good too. No one had any issues with allergies, or got any attitude from the servers when we asked questions about food ingredients, which was AWESOME. I was right. This is the best Mediterranean food I've had in Oregon so far! I can't speak to its authenticity, as I grew up on the South Side of Chicago but as a result, I'm a lifelong fan of Mediterranean-American food, and my appreciation has only increased since childhood! [Interestingly, I've noticed that in Portland, one will often find Feta cheese ON one's Gyros. Never saw that till I came to the Left Coast. I'm used to seeing it in Greek salad, but one would have to pay extra to get it on a Gyros in Chicago, and might get a funny look from the counter staff when it is requested.....just sayin'] I had the salmon kebab salad and it was great. My friend had the lamb platter, which was delicious! The servings were huge, and we had plenty of food that we took home and snacked on for the next day or so. It seems a good place for a family outing. Just an FYI, it seems to get pretty busy at lunchtime on Saturday, so go earlier, rather than later for lunch on the weekend. read more

Love their kabobs! My kids love their "pizza." I'm not a fan of a lot of Mediterranean foods but this place is consistently good. I would say the prices are a little high considering the meals consist mostly of rice, pita bread or salad but it's a nice splurge if you love their meats! read more

My wife and I chose dinner here, a longtime favorite, for our anniversary. It took longer than normal to order. Finally ordered the lamb with hummus and a lamb burger with gluten free bun. Nothing weird. Wait for food was 30+ minutes and when it finally it was cold. When asked, we told Melinda food was cold. She offered to heat it up. We opted not to as we were pretty hungry by then. She said okay and gave an extreme unempathetic apology. No sincerity at all. That really finalized a very poor experience. After leaving we tried to figure out why it happened. We've ordered delivery from here many times, and while it's always been pricey, I excused it because the ingredients are fresh, and the portions generous. We ordered delivery tonight- my husband had the shawarma wrap and I had the gyro. I have never seen a gyro where the pita wraps back on itself because there's hardly anything inside. 2 pieces of gyro meat. What was inside tasted good, but was so scant I was ripping off pieces of pita so I could taste it. The meat in my husbands shawarma was not only lacking, but SO DRY. He was smothering sauce on it to make it edible. It's so unfortunate. The baba ghanoush was good- but again, it's expensive for what it is. There are many places that do a substantial gyro for much cheaper (gyro house). I just can't justify going back after tonight. read more

This is our standard go-to restaurant whenever visiting our son in the area. We both love Mediterranean food... and while most of our experiences have been with Greek food, we found this food both familiar and different. Wow.. I'm so impressed with this place! A mistake turned into something great! When I went to place my to go order I couldn't recall the name of this delicious pizza I had once before..the waitress was kind enough to help with the order. Once we got home and I opened my pizza it wasn't what I was super excited about getting? So I called up and spoke w/ this waitress and she was SO kind and apologetic and realized how it all got switched. She said please come at your convenience and we will get you the correct pizza right away! Once I got there it was perfect timing, just about to come out of the oven. They wrote a special note of apology and sent me with a coupon for future dining. One bite of this pizza and all is forgotten because this lamb kabob pizza is SO perfectly made warm and fresh!!! The food is not as good as before. But the worst is the service. Asked for extra pita and it took 30 minutes to arrive. It was hard to get the waiter attention. He simply did not care. Not sure if he intentionally charged us for 2 pita, one should come free with meal. He stood there staring at us with the credit card machine demanding a good tip. Never going back there again.
