The food was great. The tamales were on point a usual and the lady was incredibly nice and friendly. 11/10 would recommend.

One more 5 star vote for the tamale lady!! I see her everyday when I get home from work at the 145th stop in front of the soon to be CVS. I've been wanting to get some tamales but never had cash on me or was running late to pick up my baby from daycare. Finally today the subway gods were on my side and I caught every train perfectly so was able to arrive a few minutes early and also had cash. I got two spicy chicken tamales that were given to me piping hot, which was a very nice surprise. They're also super good with a decent amount of meat! Way better than any I've gotten in Manhattan and I can only feel sorry for the suckers who think that dos caminos is good Mexican food. She only charged $1.50 per tamale. I think they easily can go for double. Probably will buy some Friday for my husband after work. read more

I walk by 145th and Broadway maybe 4-6 times per week on my way to or from Fairway, or to and from the 1 train to the golf course. And all but a couple times, she has been there. If the sun is out, so is she selling the best $1 tamales. I usually get the chicken or pork, and she says "Spicy?", "Yes please." Today I got two porks, and a cheese for the first time, and I am now hooked on the cheese. A nice piece if Queso Fresco with sauteed sweet onions, that was a surprise. Yummo! This Tamale stand is by far the most reliable, as in always there when I walk by, always consistent, always hot, and never messy or dry. With my wife as my witness, so many times, on our way to dinner, I've stopped by and grabbed a couple tamales. So many times I've said, "I'm not even hungry", but there I am chowing down on tamales. This place is, as they say up in Canadia, It's "Good stuff". Oh, one last thing, try to give her a tip. She won't take it. She reluctantly takes it after a couple tries. read more

I was walking around the area looking for something new to try and I decided to try to tamale lady. These tamales are delicious. There are chicken, pork or cheese. I got two of each (total $6) and it was too much food for me but yes, I ate them all because they were so good. My favorite was the cheese, which were spicy but so good. I smothered mine with hot sauce that I bought at a nearby supermarket. The tamale lady herself if very friendly and sweet. I'd recommend these tamales for a snack or an entire dinner. There are now at least two tamale sellers at 145th St at Broadway, SE corner: in March, after a long absence, I spotted two younger women selling tamales wrapped in dark green leaves--not the corn husk type I used to buy from an older, very short woman (Yolanda?), who was not to be seen. When I asked about her at the old liquor store around the corner (Brands), they knew her of course and said I was too early--she arrives by mid-afternoon. So yesterday I returned late enough--yes! $1.50 each, fresh and delicious, just spicy enough. Look for her cart on the east side of Bwy, between 144/145th south of the corner entrance to the new CVS. read more

There are a lot of tamale carts around, but she's the best. The queso ones are spicy with nopales in them. The chicken ones are either green or mole (red). Very tasty. A yuppie, new-arrival couple recently spent about 15 minutes ordering 4 dollars in food. The stupider they acted, the stupider she became. Smart lady. Oh, order in Spanish or your best rendition of. Best tamales EVER!!! They are now $1.25, but SO worth it. You can get chicken, pork, cheese, or mole (I think), spicy or non spicy.

Maybe the best tamales I have ever had! I always go for the spicy chicken and pork but based on the reviews here will try the queso next time. And she is such a lovely person. HIGHLY recommended! read more
