As this is a very Dominican neighborhood, this is the only place to get tamales that I have found. They are large, moist, and quite tasty, although I can only speak for the spicy cheese variety as I don't eat meat. The spicy cheese is very spicy though, so beware. It is too spicy for me, so I have had to resort to removing the jalapeno seeds prior to eating to avoid the worst of the burn and I have even paid her once to make me several without jalapeno, which were good and cheesy if slightly less flavorful than I would have hoped as I guess the spiciness is usually what is counted on to provide flavor, but still very good. She charges $1.25 per tamale.
She has a little cooler with a sign that says Mexican tamales on it next to the guy with a fruit/veg. stand on the SW corner of 181st & Wadsworth. Go by 11am if you want to make sure to get some tamales as she may run out since she only has a small cooler of them and she usually isn't there after noon-1pm. read more
