I used to go to Happy Garden on 5th street. I now go to Nice Garden in Blandon. The lady who is the owner is very sweet and kind. The food is always hot and good. She goes out of her way to make you a customer. I have never been to a more attentive Chinese Restaurant. Don't worry about door dash tip thing. She will remove it if you choose not to tip. I never give bad reviews but this place is simply not it. The pork fried rice barely contained any pork, but definitely no flavor. There was a lot of chicken in the chicken fried rice, but stilll no taste. The sesame chicken (my favorite ) was extremely lacking in flavor and the sauce was mostly dried up. More airy crunchy breading than anything. The crab ragoons! Contained maybe a tsp of filling. And I never get spring rolls (which they forgot and we had to return for) but these didn't impress me at all. I guess the lemon chicken was acceptable, but not something I ordered. Used to order from this place fairly regularly. Looks like it may have changed owners recently. Different people, and the food, unfortunately, is not the same. Absolutely terrible. Egg rolls were mushy. The pork fried rice, well, wasn't. It looked and tasted like they just cooked a bunch of yellow rice and threw in some bits. Worst of all was the General Tso's Chicken. This place used to have some very delicious food. I don't know what exactly happened but they have gone completely downhill. I've read on other reviews that there was a challenge with the young girl at the counter taking orders. I must agree with those opinions. Initially they had hired someone other than her to take orders and everything appeared wonderful; and they delivered at that juncture as well! Then they stopped delivery and then they stopped with the articulate person on the phone. What we as customers were offered was "the girl" who would take your order over the phone with a series of guttural grunts of acknowledgement after each item. The next challenge was when you picked up your order and there was ALWAYS something missing. At times you would discover this AFTER you drove all the way back home! This is the time frame when the food quality started to go south. Orders started to take longer. Orders weren't prepped properly. Some orders were burnt or tasted burnt or just flavorless. Initially I gave the business the benefit of the doubt, however, it remained the same or just got worse. Long wait times for orders (greater than 20 minutes) for food that is just NOT worth it. Chinese food needs to be QUICK AND BURSTING WITH FLAVOR, this is NOT. I would recommend going elsewhere to spend your hard earned money. read more

I have been to a lot of Chinese restaurants. But I have never seen such poor quality of food. The general tso's is not spicy at all they charge extra for more soy sauce. We've eaten here a number of times over the years, but I have officially put them on my "do not visit" list. I never got sick or anything, but the food quality just isn't there... Our last visit pushed us over the edge. The egg rolls are mostly all "filler" cabbage and are overcooked (yes, there is a state known as "too crispy!") The General Tso's was overly breaded too -- too much breading, not enough chicken. Right after the Dragon 21 closed (it was a Chinese restaurant in Fleetwood), Nice Garden came out with a new menu that jacked up the prices $.50 on lunches. I guess they are capitalizing on being the only game in town. I don't mind the higher prices so much, but the real kicker was the past few times that I've ordered ahead from Nice Garden they'd say it would be 20-25 minutes. I'd arrive 25 minutes later and they hadn't even *started* my order and then I'd be standing around waiting for another 25 minutes. Uggh, be honest with your wait times! It really is a shame because this restaurant is right around the corner from my house. A better bet is "China Wok" in Temple (near the Burger King on 5th Street Highway), or some day I guess I'll have to try out "Hong Kong" in Oley (it's not exactly close to my house though). read more

My boyfriend and I have been ordering Chinese food from Nice Garden for years, and believe this is one of the best take out Chinese we know of. I wouldn't say it's a place to go and sit and eat. But ordering for pick-up the Food is Always ready in 10 minutes. The staff is friendly despite any kind of language barrier, and the handmade dumplings and crab rangoons are always great. The wonton soup, beef and broccoli, sesame chicken, and general tso's chicken are all standard. We have never had any complaints on those orders. read more

These people are Chinese-American, they have different cultural ideas and different forms of communication. They are not going to be the friendliest because it's just how most Chinese people are. They have the best Chinese food in this whole Berks county area. I've been coming here for over ten years now and I've never had a problem with them. I've talked to them before about their reviews on yelp and they said that they admit to their mistakes and that they work hard to improve their reputation. I personally think that some of these people who posted bad reviews are exaggerating. But everyone has the right to their own opinion, it just won't change my opinion about nice Garden. Placed a takeout order. Female taking order was very rude to my wife. When I went in to pickup the order the female at the register was very rude. (Like she didn't want to be there) Had to ask for extras like fortune cookies and duck sauce, nothing out as in all other Chinese places we eat at. It's your standard Chinese menu but there are two major reasons I choose this over Dragon 21, the other local Chinese restaurant. #1) It's clean. You can tell they take pride in keeping their little shop orderly. You can see into the kitchen and they are constantly washing their hands... basically you feel perfectly safe eating their food. #2) They deliver to my house! I live in Moselem Springs and they are the ONLY place that delivers to me. The service can be a bit slow, especially on Friday nights... almost like they don't have extra staff for the busier times when they need it. Which is the reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5. But the food is hot and tasty. Whenever I get a craving for Chinese, I will always call Nice Garden. read more

This is the nearest Chinese food restaurant where I live. Chinese food in Berks County Pa seems to be pricey wherever you go. But, the quality of the meals here are not consistent. Always a hit or a miss. And when it's a "hit" it's just subpar. What makes it a "hit" are the fried scallops which are tasty. The chicken wings are also decent. They might use a large rice cooker, which is what makes their rice chunky, and sometimes even crumb like. Very disappointing and unjust because of their prices. I drive to Reading PA to my favorite Chinese restaurant. Why? Because consistency with quality food, taste, and portion will always get my support. read more

Had a hankering for Chinese food today, normal spot of choice was closed, tried this place, ordered Singapore Cho Mei Fun which is supposed to be spicy, wasn't spicy at all and lacked saffron seasoning; ordered sweet and sour chicken; every Chinese restaurant I ever got food from, the sweet and sour sauce was red in color, their's was not and quite frankly it was terrible, more like duck sauce, also got an order of crab rangoons, again every Chinese restaurant I got crab rangoons at came with it's own sauce, brown in color. This is one of my favorite places for lunch. The prices are reasonable and the food is delicious. We've been going for years and haven't ever been disappointed. I tried this place twice since Dragon 21 closed in Fleetwood. The first time I called for take out, and the girl that answered the phone was unbelievably rude to me for no apparent reason. When I picked up my food, her in person attitude was no different. I chalked it up to her having a bad day and took my food home. It wasn't anything special. A few months later, my family and I decided to order from here again. I was happy that they had online ordering complete with delivery. I received a phone call 50 minutes later saying they don't do delivery, regardless of what the menu online says. I drive to pick up my food and then they tell me that the prices online are also different, so my total was more than what I authorized online. The older woman that actually had a smile on her face didn't speak enough English to understand my obvious complaint, and the other girl that refused to acknowledge my obvious irritation was the same rude one from before. She made sure to give me a "correct" menu though because their online ordering service is "old" (or at least that's what was stated). I will never ever go here again. Oh and the food was even worse this time (to add insult to my food injury). At least New Happy Garden in Temple delivers to Blandon. read more
