Stay away from this school.
They are advertised as a low budget flight school, but once you're in, they will find excuses to make you pay more. Have a seat, spare few minutes and read my story.
This school has a good relationship with the flight schools in Japan. A lot of international students from Japan come to this school each month, and they are the most important customers for Nice Air. These Japanese students get special treatments from Nice Air such as getting the best airplanes and instructors available for them. These students can get a license or rating within 3 months while non-international students take up to 8-9 months for the same goals. The longer it takes for you to pass, more of your money go to the school.
This school creates requirements within the academy that are not required by FAA or any other flight schools. I had a private pilot license from another country already. So I just needed to do a single solo cross-country and a check ride to get a private pilot license (PART 61). Unfortunately, Nice Air assigned me instructors that were not passionate in teaching students as they were doing their job only to become an airline pilot after fulfilling the flight hours, and most of the instructors were illegal to work in the U.S.
After about 4 months in at Nice Air, I was still with an instructor that would make me question his legitimacy as an instructor. We had unpleasant conversations as he was dishonest and came to our flight sessions unprepared. He absolutely had no idea which practices to go over during our sessions and when I asked him what he wants me to do, he always said "I don't know." He made me feel like I was wasting my time and money, so I requested the school to assign me a different instructor. After this incident, the chief instructor ordered two stage checks as required by the school policy, despite the fact that I have a PPL with 140 hours logged already; therefore, I do not require these stage checks for FAR Part 61. This made me get very upset at this school for being unfair and adding more inside school requirements for me to pay them for. They had never mentioned about these requirements before to me nor to my instructors. But since I already paid the TSA background check with this school as a provider, I decided to continue with the two stage checks, which was a huge mistake.
A new instructor was a much better teacher, and he was kind and patience and was willing to teach me until I fully learned. Thanks to him, I passed my first stage check. The instructor who passed me spoke to me and my instructor face to face that I had passed the check and I can prepare for the second stage check. A month later, I was practicing solo to prepare for the second stage check, and the chief instructor called me to tell me that there was a mistake and I did not pass the first stage that was a month ago and I have to do it again. I was confused and shocked, and started chatting with other students to find out that some of them were told the same before. I couldn't think of any possible reasons they would do this other than wanting to add up more hours required to make more money for themselves. At this point, I decided to leave this flight school and share their unfairness and dishonesty.
To get my balance back from the school, I have been calling the owner of the school as he was required to sign the paper work for their office admin. Of course, he ignored all my phone calls and text messages. So when I drove 45 minutes to his office to talk face to face, he asked for my logbook which I did not bring with, to ensure my request was legitimate. He could just confirm this with his employee as they have their own record of my balance in their computer, but he said he wanted to make sure my logbook was accurate, absolutely being disrespectful.
If you're not an international student from Japan, stay away from this school. You will end up wasting your time and money and be taught by unprofessional instructors that could risk your exam or even your life. I ended up spending about $5,500 at Nice Air and left the school with no achievements. If I had gone to a different school, I could have gotten my private pilot license and could have saved me about $3,000 or more. The Nice Air owner mixes water in the bathroom hand soaps to save few bucks... He would do anything to save money out of his pocket but take more money out of your pocket. You can tell by looking at the conditions of the planes at this school. If you are still not sure if you should stay away from this school or not, just search on Google how many planes the students and instructors of Nice Air crashed in the last 10 years. read more
