We found Niantic KOA to be a very nice spot. The check-in was easy by a very nice/helpful staff. We were taken to our spot by a staff member who was very nice and helpful. Our pull through spot was spacious and included an outdoor patio set and a newer propane grill and flat iron bbq. The only downside was that the spaces do not include a dump station. There is one there in the camp, which you can do on your way out. It's a KOA so great for families and retirees alike. read more

This place is AWFUL! The manager Micheal is absolutely horrible le and so rude. The rules change based on person and I was told I had to pay a visitors fee when I stopped by to pickup my mother who stayed here. Stay away! Anywhere else is better than this place! read more

COVID-19 era review: we began with less-contact check-in, calling the office whose staff passed information out the office window. The ground staff lead us to our pull-thru site and helped us pull forward. We didn't even need leveling blocks--easiest parking ever. So why would a KoA Journey, right off the highway, have so many seasonal campers? Cause you are at one gorgeous spot along the LI Sound. Woods and campfire smells are occasionally mixed with the smell of beach brine. Should you choose to find that beach brine on foot, there's a gravel path leading to Rocky Neck State Park. If you're skipping the beach and parking it beside the campfire, take the fork off that path to the bottle shop next door. Niantic KoA doesn't have a pool, but they do have beach passes and close proximity to Rocky Neck. Camping in autumn, you have awesome copper foliage. The campground loop is a half mile long if you're more of a walker than a hiker, and they do keep it family friendly: treasure coins appear at the campsites and playground, and kids can trade them in for candy at the General Store. Treasure hunting for coins lead to active but occupied kids! An art teacher was our tie-dyeing expert, and rides were available on a retired fire engine and a hay wagon. The fur babies got to play in the K-9 park with a swing for humans. This family friendly KoA is one of the few open past Columbus Day, and we can't wait to return! read more

Customer service at its finest. We stayed in a grassy pull thru site. They were great with the kids, they had an ongoing search for coins around the campground for the kids. Kept my kids occupied the entire time. They have fire truck rides for the kids a few times a day. Once my son fell off his bike on his way there. They let him ride around the campground, dropped him right off at our campsite so we could clean up his scratches & even went back and got another employee to drop his bike off at our site! When we paid for wood at the camp store they brought it to our site, nicely stacked it next to the fire pit & dropped newspaper to help start it! The employee working out & about in the campground when we were there. Went above & beyond to make sure we were settled. We can't wait for our next excuse to come this way & stay at this campground! Thank you for a great end of our 13 day trip around New England. read more

Absolutely horrendous! Management is rude and extremely disrespectful. I was so frustrated we left after only being there 1 day. Found a much nicer place a few miles up the road in mystic. Can't believe this place can operate under the KOA name. Strongly suggest taking your family somewhere else! read more

Great campground, spacious site, nice amenities. Excellent for kids and pets. My only complaint is the annoying fire engine that sounds off a siren and an incessant horn. It's for kids but definitely disturbs the silence of a campfire. read more

I just called and asked in the nicest tone "hi is it ok if I ask you a couple questions" and the woman who answered the phone seemed VERY confused and started to give a little attitude and responded with "regarding what" and I responded in confusion with "regarding dates, rates, price, availability?" And the woman responded with "um ok?" So I hung up and didn't even want to deal with that level of communication. I already foresee problems if we ever were to stay here. I really was super nice and friendly. I'm sad more campgrounds aren't excited to answer the phone and communicate with potential campers. read more

If you are looking for a campground where you are monitored nonstop, need something to entertain your kids, or are expecting a lot of amenities - then Camp Niantic is not for you. If you are looking for a solid campground and are more seasoned/have camping supplies, at a cheap rate, and not be disturbed - then Camp Niantic is right up your alley. A group of fifteenish of us went for the weekend. They had an area for larger groups camping which would have easily been able to accommodate upwards of 20 tents and still have plenty of room. The site had a nice rock fire circle already set up, as well as multiple picnic tables (some of these tables have seen better days - make sure you bring some chairs). There was a trailer right across from our area that had men and women bathrooms equipped with four stalls and two shower stalls. Showers were .50 for 5 minutes I believe. The place is pretty eclectic, starting from the dummy in the entrance booth (reminded me of the guy from the Saw movies), to the 80ish year-old woman running the front desk (who asked for IDs once she found out we were a 'mixed group' of females and males), to her daughter who came to the campground to collect our payment as they need the money to support her brother, who is a recovering heroin addict, who lives on the campground. I would definitely go back, especially during the summer because Rocky Neck beach is less than 5 minutes down the road. That and it isn't a state campground, so you can drink all day without being harassed and stay up as late as you want with a fire going (we were up until about 3). read more

We booked tent site for 2 nights in this place to relax and stay away city's stress and noisy enviroment, but here we are totally surrended by lots of RV's and area is definelitly not to best place for camping. forget about best place, not even close to decent camp site.. Next day starting 10 am workers start cutting lots of tree's right next to our tent site and place become a loud construction site..we call the office and made a complaint but they did'nt care much.. staff is ok but management should organize this maybe during the week days with when less campers around.. definitely would'nt recommend this KOA for campers..i call this place chain saw camping site.. run away !!! read more

We did not stay. I wouldnt dare stay. Rustic isnt a word Id use... Neglected, unkept, dirty & overgrown is more fitting. Filthy Disgusting bathrooms - on a Wednesday at noon, with noone at the campground- that says alot!!! . Noone cleans. Everything is outdated or broken. No upgrades. Its painfully obvious that the 3500 per seasonal camper is being used for absolutely nothing- atleast at the campground. There was even a felled tree hanging over a camper- waiting to drop down- this campground couldnt care less. An old truck trailer used for storage dead center really adds to the trash appeal. No amenities. No real park area. Many old unkept sloppy trailers which is sad because the few families who take care of there property n trailers in the back n on the sides cant sell and get away because noone wants to spend any money n buy into a broke down campground. Ive been to many campgrounds- this is by far o e of the worst. read more

We booked this KOA at the last minute for a holiday weekend. The fact they had openings should have been our first clue it may not be a great experience. Our first introduction was the manager screaming at my husband for driving too quickly into the campsite. We are driving a Class C thirty foot RV up a dirt hill!! If she were not what appeared to be intoxicated she may have thought differently about customer experience. We were escorted to our site down a minimally cleared alley to a pull through site. As it was now dark we decided to stay for the night. It is not a full hookup site so we were prepared for that but the brown water hookup was a small tube in the ground we had to look for. Additionally the cable box did not work and we hooked up to an adjacent empty site. Newly renovated bathroom would be great if cleaned. The gentleman who assisted us to the site and several times during the set up was pleasant and accommodating. However I can not encourage anyone to stay at this KOA. KOA name indicates a certain level of campground. This campground simply doesn't make the cut. The name branding is not supported by the actual experience. read more

If you are looking for a family campground this is not for you. No pool, not geared towards children. 0 for them to do. You can go to the beach but dogs are not allowed . But if you have your pet you are out of luck. No activities except for adults . They don't spray for bugs . Camp sites are ok. No pavilion. If I could give this campground zero stars I would, from the moment my friends and I stepped foot in the main office the front desk women were rude and unwelcoming towards us. We told them that we had called ahead 3 times to change our location of the site we were to stay at and they said they had no clue what we were talking about and had no notes in their system. They charged us $50 for ONE night PLUS $20 for a parking pass to leave one car in the guest lot, which they only accepted cash for....yet for every other purchase we could use our cards for. We later asked if friends could stop by for an hour and they told us it would be $5 for them to park a car in the visitor lot. Once our friends arrived they then told us it would be $5 per person. Crazy. The women at the front desk were peering out the window at us all day as if they were monitoring what we did...We felt extremely uncomfortable the whole night. The only workers who were nice to us were the men who patrolled the campground. Definitely going to Hammonasset campground next time. read more

We had high hopes in staying at this KOA with our family for a few nights for the 4th of july if i could give 0 or even negative stars i would. We ended up packing up and leaving after one night there which was disappointing to say the least. The camp itself was disgusting there was a tarp on the campsite that was wet with pools of stagnant water which had mosquito larve in it. There was broken glass fragments through out site as well as other garbage. I was worried for the safety of my kids and our camping equipment. Even though it was a heat wave at the time that is not what drove us out of the camp site. We drove the speed limit and as slow as we could go entering, driving around and leaving the campgrounds but were harassed by the staff there everytime. We were in fact followed back to our camp site to be "talked" to about said driving where the staff got emotional while yelling at us in front of our children which upset the kids. We then decided to leave and get refunded for our stay which turned into being unenjoyable. I would not reccommend this campsite to anyone even of they just needed a place to stay on emergency. read more

I chose this campground because I wanted to take my son on a nice vacation. While I was checking in, I noticed the smell of alcohol on the woman checking me in. The woman proceeded to tell me that they only accept cash, so I took out the $110 that I was quoted on the phone. She said: that will be $125. I'm no sucker so I said they told me $110.00 and she responded okay then $110 since that's what she told you on the phone. I get to the site and they're not not numbered or identified by any means so I had to drive back up to the office to find out which site was mine. A couple of men escorted me to the right site which was covered in broken glass. Since I mentioned my sons nebulizer the man said take the next site over it has electric so I did. The fire pit appeared to be at one time made of rocks and a metal ring. At this point however, it looked like an avalanche of rocks. After we set up camp, my son wanted to play on the playground so we walked up to it. Oh my god was this a scary looking playground. Just run down and there were dumpsters and pallets and it was very dumpy. To be honest when we pulled in I wasn't sure if people live here or camp here. The next day we made breakfast and left for the day . That night when we arrived at the campsite we met our neighbors. The woman asked me if this is how all campgrounds are because she felt like I did about it. I've camped for a long time and I've never been to such a poorly set up and maintained campground. The next morning I woke up and wanted to shower. To my surprise, you have to pay 50 cents to shower. I was hoping the water would be warm since the sinks seem to have ice cold water. Might as well have showered in the sink because the water was ice cold in the shower too. I was totally disgusted at this point. I couldn't wait to go back home. After my "shower" I went to the office to express my disgust. Conveniently enough the office was closed. I threw my hands up and went on with my day. When we checked out, after a brutal three night stay, I wish I had fireworks because I wanted to celebrate. I'm not a high maintenance person, but when I need a shower, and I paid $110 for the stay, 50 cents to freeze and not even wash my hair because the cold water hurt my skin, I'm going to have problems. I will never ever stay here again. I will not recommend anybody to stay there. The broken glass on the site was extremely dangerous, what they charge for 3 nights is outrageous for what they're offering, and excuse me for saying so but it was trashy. Do not stay at this dump. Stay in your car if you must. You will enjoy it more. read more
