We arrived at 3:59 PM and, as directed by the front desk, walked through the ballet room to get there. The ballet class was already past its scheduled end time, so we waited until the students finished before passing through. Halfway across the room, the ballet teacher suddenly began yelling at us aggressively. My daughter was terrified. I calmly asked her to lower her voice, but she continued screaming--following us into the gymnastics room in front of dozens of children. I have a heart condition and began feeling unwell from the stress, yet she would not stop. No staff intervened. I assumed the school would handle it properly, but I was wrong. Later, the owner defended the teacher, accused me of being a "criminal," and took zero responsibility. The real victims were my daughter and the many children who witnessed this unprovoked outburst. Parents should be aware of three serious concerns: 1. Poor safety - No security, unattended front desk, and children can easily wander outside to the street. I personally saw a 6-year-old disappear for 20 minutes. 2. Emotionally unstable ballet teacher - Multiple online reviews mention her history of yelling at kids when parents aren't present. 3. Unprofessional management - Canceled classes without notice, no accountability, and intimidation tactics from the owner, Serge. I regret not calling the police that day. If I had, maybe fewer children would be subjected to this behavior. Parents, please protect your children. A school should be a safe, nurturing place--not one where kids are traumatized and parents are threatened. I've attached a video showing my daughter's reaction after being traumatized by the teacher--no child should ever go through this.

But, when I finally reached out to the owner Linda I was dismissed and referred back to the Site Director. Many parents ended up leaving the program and placing our children elsewhere. The only positive were a couple of the classroom staff throughout the years who were kind and patient with the kids. These staff members often ended up moving on.

The staff says what you want to hear, but again and again no change is made. Disappointing from an owner that is a former educator so she is well aware of the screen time limits and recommendations for elementary aged children. I have noticed that some sites are being run much better than others, so be aware to actually check on what your child is doing each day there after homework is done. Don't rely on the staff, but check internet usage and ask your child. Maybe your school site program differs.

It's so close, convenient and located in a plaza with over a dozen nail salons and a sprinkling of food/drink places. A perfect plaza to kill time for a parent who is waiting for their child that is taking dance classes in these studios. For those who would like to be present as their kid takes class, these studios also have a great seating area to observe the lessons. They have just recently expanded classes for older kids and adults. A great way for the adults to move their bodies, get their groove back on, and burn some calories. To top it off, DanceLA just opened up another studio two doors down to accommodate more classes. The recent open house showcased this beautiful space. This place has friendly, encouraging, and supportive dance teachers who are skilled in teaching students of all ages. There is also ample parking in the adjacent structure. Local, reasonably priced, with friendly, kind, staff members, is a winner in my book. Check this place out! You also want to know your child is safe and secure so that you don't have to worry when you leave. Childtime gives us all of that and more! Our little one loves it there. They have a huge park-like playground and J just loves it there. He always asks when he can go to "the park" (Childtime) and play again. He also loves his teachers and has learned so much. He made a few friends just on the very first day and always comes home with stories about his day. The staff is very experienced in childcare and the Director Ms. Pam and the Assistant Ms. Debbie are always helpful, accessible and keep everything running smoothly. Ms. Pam always puts us at ease and J just loves saying HI and Bye to the office beta fish every day! The summer has had lots of fun stuff going on, foam parties, water play, Captain Tall Tale, Franklyn Haynes Marionette Show, and a bubble show coming up too. Our family loves it here and have referred our friends as well. Childtime and their staff has exceeded our expectations and gone above and beyond! Our sincere thanks to everyone there.

We started our toddler in daycare at 2 and a half. She had an amazing first week but she started realizing daycare was a permanent fixture in our daily life and had a few weeks of adjustments after. Ms. Gloria and Ms. Doreen were so amazing and patient with our daughter. They took care of her and made sure she adjusted well during her days in school. We really appreciated it because we were really worried that our daughter wouldn't like school or the teachers weren't going to be great and we'd have to keep searching for a new daycare. But this was not the case. When our daughter transitioned to the three year old class with Ms Jenny and Ms Mary, she adjusted really quickly because they were so attentive with her. My daughter talks about her teachers all the time and this is how I know that she is well taken care of in school. There is the benefit of a camera system at the school and we did open the app a lot more frequently when she first started at the school. But now, we just pop in here and there just to see how she's doing. She rarely goes home with any incident reports so we don't have any reason to worry and check on her more frequently. All staff are friendly, responsive, and attentive. At least from what we've noticed. Our daughter is learning and her speech and critical thinking is much more advanced than if we were to keep her home. At this point in time, we are happy with Childtime and will continue to have our daughter attend until she started TK.

Kim's Hapkido is an awesome place! My son started at the South Pasadena location when he was 5. But…read moreafter only 3 months, the Covid pandemic shut down everything. Afterwards, at age 8, he had his second start and has been learning Hapkido for nearly 4 years now. He enjoys it a lot. This school is a wonderful place to learn self-defense, develop self-confidence and how to stand up to bullies, practice discipline and respect, and forge friendships. Master Kim and every single instructor are great with the kids (and adult students, too!). Hapkido as a martial art combines kicking, striking, throws, grappling and joint locks into a very effective self-defense system. While these techniques might seem scary and, as a parent, one might be concerned about injuries during practice, there is no reason to worry at Kim's Hapkido. The entire team of instructors is patient and skilled, and safe instructions have priority. In all the years watching my son practice, I've never witnessed an accident or unsafe instructions, including during the sparring sessions. Kim's Hapkido employs a neat belt system, with about 13 different belt colors and stripes from white to black belt. While these many steps are more than what you typically have in other martial arts, they provide an effective motivational tool to keep attending practice. Achieving the next level belt color is based on performance and an official exam (with board breaking!), and each kid is immensely proud when they are awarded the new belt. No belt is given merely based on the time spent in the dojang, but rather is awarded based on the merits of having learned the respective set of techniques. By now, my son has climbed up the belt ranking by 10 steps, and each successful passing of a belt exam represents a wonderful highlight that nurtures his self-confidence and personal growth. The adult classes at the South Pasadena location usually are 8-15 in size, whereas the kids' classes are larger, depending of the day of the week. However, in all classes there are always multiple black belt instructors available; therefore the teacher-to-student ratio is excellent; during the detailed technique portion of the class, safe and personalized instructions are assured. My son attends practice 2-3 times per week (depending on his soccer practice), plus 1 sparring session in addition. The sparring sessions are restricted to intermediate + advanced students and require the wearing of well-padded sparring gear (hitting the head is prohibited!). The gender distribution is about 50:50, and it is great to see how girls hold their own during sparring; a valuable lesson to learn for the boys! Another clever concept is Master Kim's Star Program, where kids can earn small, star-shaped merit badges for their uniform, based on achievements outside of Hapkido (such as in school or church or another sport). Some of the kids wear over a dozen of them as a proud display of their varied accomplishments during their young lives! This is one more example of how thoughtful this place is with regard to instilling a sense of achievement in its students. Despite its location in the heart of South Pasadena with its high rental costs, Kim's Hapkido has managed to keep its membership fees fair and affordable, which I appreciate. The studio is nicely spacious and there is a designated seating area for the parents in case they want to stay during class and observe (or read a book). Parking is easy and free; there is street parking along Fair Oaks Ave, dedicated parking behind the studio, and a large lot behind the Canoe House across the street.

They have studios throughout southern California and are a pretty reputable and established hapkido family and organization. I studied under the founder at the Alhambra studio 30 years ago and his son at the Pasadena studio along the same timeline. I'm probably the oldest/longest Red-Black student/practitioner in their history which is probably the longest running joke. But now is probably the time to pass that torch on and I have three kids currently attending and learning the same things I did during my time there. My favorite memory from the old days was of when the head sparring instructor at the time "Red" was teaching defense against kicks and I raised my hand and asked what if your opponent kicks so fast you can't defend against their kicks. He invited me to demonstrate a kick like that against him. Me being the idiot I was, took his challenge. Except it probably didn't work out the way he planned, because I ended up hitting him so fast and hard with a roundhouse kick (after he told me to go for it) that the sound echoed across the studio before he could blink and his arms grasped empty air while my foot was already back on the ground before he could even react. I remember the stunned look on his face and the gallery of people at that moment and the words, "well okay, for the rest of us that can't kick like that, we need to practice this." He then proceeded to pummel me with his superior height and range in the sparring bouts that ensued later that night. Lol, those were good times and some of my fondest memories in life. If you ever see a tired old guy with a red-black belt hanging around from time to time, it might be that I'm still there keeping up the legend.
