My previous mechanic, after significant expense, was stumped after 2 visits and days of troubleshooting, and was told that any repairs to fix whatever was causing the misfiring would junk the car. When deciding for a shop to get repairs done I look for qualities like honesty fairness and diligence. Next gear and their staff is exactly this type of shop. The backstory to my visit here is I had purchased a used M6 from a dealership with a limited warranty. After a few ppis at previous shops a few issues were uncovered: one of which was a vc gasket leak on the drivers side cylinder bank that needed to be addressed. Naturally i figured I should have the other side done as well (for labor overlap to cheapen my out of pocket costs) so I asked to be quoted for the the full job and to my surprise the shop before next gear wrote up an invoice for same amount of labor for two separate repairs. This was outrageous! I refused to have the repairs done at that shop and luckily I was able to stumble across next gear in a google search so I gave them a call. The person to pick up was their tech Jonathan who spent a great deal with me on the phone as I explained the situation. Although their rates aren't the absolute cheapest(you pay for quality work) he gave me an honest quote on the amount of labor it would take to do both sides which was significantly cheaper than the other shop. I called 3 other places which had either refused to do the repair or gave me a bogus explanation on why it would take an additional 10 hours to do the second side. That alone won my business so I drove 50 min away to have it done at next gear. A few days later Jonathan calls me back to let me know he was able to have the other side covered under the warranty as well! This speaks to the conscientiousness of next gear's staff and their willingness to go above and beyond to make sure their customers get the proper service with as little cost as possible. How is it that the previous other shops could not do the same is beyond me. A later visit with them found a few other issues here and there which also saved me even more thousands of dollars down the road that would have needed to be addressed! I waited a few months to really give myself enough time behind the wheel to truly enjoy and test the vehicle out after all the work and needless to say she's driving like a brand new vehicle thanks to the outstanding work from Jonathan and the rest of the team there at next gear! Why go to a dealership if you can get the same quality of work (a few if not all of them were former bmw techs) without the egregious labor mark up? Don't. Come here instead! I noticed something wrong with my car. I wasn't getting any power when I accelerated. I reached out at like 8pm to next gear bimmer and they responded. I brought my car in the next morning at 9am when they opened. They were able to diagnose the issue and kept me informed. They also did recommend other services (which I know I probably needed). It ended up being a lot more service than I was initially anticipating but glad they were able to identify what was needed to keep my car running strong and having less problems going forward. Initially said it wasn't going to be ready until Monday but they went above and beyond and drove to Burlingame to get a part Friday night. They ended up having it done on Saturday, so I appreciate the extra effort. When I went to pick up my car they also showed me the bad parts they swapped out (just to show how trustworthy they were, but they didn't need to). I just found NGBM and I'm really happy that I did. Htet knows his stuff, is very transparent and reasonable. I bought a used 1998 Z3 and asked him to do a post-purchase suspension check which was very helpful because one of the two bolts holding one of the tie-rods to the frame had snapped off (likely impact wrench from previous owner or service). Htet got the bolt removed & replaced plus I had him replace bushings which I had previously purchased. I only had to wait a few days to bring the car in and since I didn't need the fix urgently Htet still turned the car around in a few days much to my satisfaction. I contacted Next Gear for a cracked and leaking upper engine mount. In addition, the lower mount had slipped. It was my first contact with NEXT GEAR BIMMER MOTOR. Htet, owner, was very knowledgable and experienced with BMW's. He offered me an appointment for next business day as I was concerned about the safety of driving the car. My car is a BMW X1. He was very helpful in showing me the mounts and problems. He gave estimate for repair which was reasonable and ordered two new mounts. He also took the time to show me the problem mounts after they were removed and replaced which no mechanic had taken the time to do before. All in all, I was very impressed with the workmanship and Htet's concern that the job was completed on a timely basis. I had some gas surging issues with my 328i and needed diagnostic triage on what was causing that problem - fuel injector, fuel pump, gas pedal linkage?. On a whim, I dropped by this shop. The owner/mechanic, Htet, was working on another BMW model as I parked outside. He dropped what he was working on, and came out to greet me. I explained my car's problem and asked If I needed to make an appointment at a later date.
