This branch of Primark is a fairly large branch of the "discount" fashion retailer, and it is one…read moreof two branches of the chain I visited during my trip to Newcastle and the North East of England in the Summer of 2017, this branch is a decent branch, albeit slightly smaller than my local store in Manchester, I did prefer it compared to Manchester, but still this branch isn't fantastic and is probably only the second best in the region, behind the branch at the intu Metrocentre in Gateshead. This store is located on Northumberland Street in a fairly decent location in the city centre of Newcastle Upon Tyne. The store is over four floors, with Women's on the Ground Floor, Mens in the "Basement" and a Costa Coffee store with the Kids range and Customer Services on the upper/second floor. The staff around the store seemed average, perhaps less helpful than other branches, however. A decent store in a decent location - hence the reason I'm struggling to rate this place, yet sadly due to some slight issues with product range, slight issues with service not being as good as other Primark branches and issues with the overall feel of the store in parts, the lifts also were an issue for me, I feel this store only deserves a medium to high two-star rating at best.

It opened in 2012 to replace the old BHS and it has proven popular with Newcastle because it's always jam packed. The basement has the menswear department which is pretty large. I can always find something I like on this floor. The ground and first floors are both taken up by the womenswear but the second floor has the amazing Primark home section, accessories and a Costa, which you can head to if you want to escape the crowds of the main store. Even though it does get VERY packed, the store is very spacious, so it doesn't really feel busy. The escalator arrangement is complete and utter pants. You have to go to the other side of the store to get to the next one in the set, what rubbish! Also the elevators (even though there is lots of them) feel like they are always flooded with people. It has a good layout, it is pretty generous in size, mens department is big and it has a coffee shop, so what is not to like about Primark Newcastle?

The shop is like any factory store in the states. The front end is all first run merchandise at full UK MSRP pricing - zero bargains to be had there. The back portion is all outlet stuff that is discounted anywhere from 30% (most common) to 50% to 70%. You'll have to hunt through stuff in this section and it can be overwhelming. The sizing is well marked, but stuff tends to get jumbled up, hence the hunting. The staff are polite and try to help, but they seemed to be overwhelmed as well during our visit. You might want to take cash with you as the time we visited their card readers were down. They apparently aren't always good about warning to this and we spent an hour shopping and selecting things to buy before we were told cash only which was very frustrating!!! There is an off-site cash machine available that's a 10 minute walk away (and the staff is all too eager to direct you to it), but it's limited to £250 per transaction. Due to this we walked away from our experience at the store empty handed and unhappy. The bottom line is that unless you are a Barbour fanatic and are looking to make a pilgrimage, or you're looking for a recently discontinued item, there is little reason to visit this place unless you simply run out of other places to visit. You can get the first run items from legit Barbour retailers in the UK at the same price, (or less if you shop on-line.) For US customers, buying at a UK retailer can save you some money depending on the exchange rate, but keep in mind that a $400 jacket eats into your free customs declaration pretty fast. In addition, bulky wax coated jackets might push your luggage weights over the limits in which case the savings is lost due to baggage surcharges. Also, e-Bay retailers in the states can get you the exact same items for an equivalent value to or slightly better than UK pricing.

This store is quite big with school school uniforms first, then baby, children and womens work clothes clockwise. Womens underwear and casual clothes are towards the back of the store with shoes in the middle front and a small mens section. On the right side of the store is a home section that had a few interesting pieces but nothing eye-catching. The staff didnt seem all that bohered to tidy and kept to themselves hidden behind the tills. Overall, this store didn't really leave much of an impression.

A very handy shop for bargain fasion and clothing as well as household items…read more Not always the best place to get trousers, joggers etc for someone who needs XL size. It's also sometimes differcult to find an assistant to get help. 9 times out of ten you get told, everything is out on the shelves / racks. Saying that, if you ask, they can normally try other local branches. Keep an eye on local newspapers as Matalan have some good sales on from time to time.

It is a mid sized store, quite narrow so can be difficult to negotiate on a busy Saturday and especially challenging with a pushchair. The range of clothing is good, but aimed primarily at a youthful market and those with more money to spend than the average. Value for money is average as prices are quite high but quality is in general quite good and the clothes are very attractive. It has a mix of high fashion items and more classic pieces but they have a really lovely range of cocktail type dresses.

The only criticism that I have is the fact that the prices are too high and do not reflect the quality of clothing that you receive. In my opinion, when comparing this store and the branch in Newcastle, perhaps even adding the branches of Primark in both Oldham and Manchester city centre, closer to my home into the mix, this is one of my favourite stores. The sign is modern and it does have some slightly modern features, and it also seemed less busy than most other city centre stores such as Manchester on my trip. I found the staff to be friendly, we got chatting about technology and Apple pay, I was served quite quickly despite there being a queue, it seemed to be well-managed which was good. The product range was quite satisfactory but mainly summer-based, for example, I found it quite difficult to get long sleeve t-shirts away from their suits and smart range, which was a shame. For a clothes shop, this is probably slightly above average, some of the products in all honesty are just junk and things you would wear once and seem to be of the lower quality, but some things from here are okay, and I feel as one of the better Primark stores I have visited, this store deserves a three star rating.
