Get Yer Paper,The Boy would say ! Hard to run a Newspaper Today. I still enjoy holding the newspaper in my hands and being able to read it.. I also like the feel of a Book in my hands. I'm getting a little older and trying to read on my tablet , phone and computer screen, is sometimes difficult on my eyes. As it may be for many others. I have found that Newsday as a whole is the more mature unbiased journalistic endeavors available in the New York area. When I was in college I took journalistic classes, I thought I would like to be involved in The reporting or newspaper industry .I also took photography and film courses. I would look at other newspapers that were available,I couldn't understand why some of the publications were widely politically biased . Instead of featuring pertinent news they'd have a big blow up cartoon character of some political person they were looking to vilify. Most recently I have seen media.. that I used to enjoy, now ridiculously and unprofessional biased. Following this 2016 election season I intend to augment my media packages to exclude these somewhat famous networks. I Have found Newsday to have maintained its independent views of the news and not choose, To just Cluelessly Amuse! I also enjoy the New York Times despite possible involvement in political bias. Did you know that the Times uses a Different Quality printing ink ? So it will not smear on the white shirts of business folk. So if I'm looking to read, and not be told how to think. Recently moved into a new home and the obnoxiously large plastic covered paper started automatically coming, and quickly thrown away. After a few months of travel/moving, we started noticing physical statements (bills) for the paper. Our robocall feature reported us getting 2-3 calls a day (even Sunday nights) from them attempting to collect on less than $20 worth of worthless mail. All because someone "said yes to the service" in a telemarketer call, the Newsday employee stated. They already had our names and address, so this was obviously a set-up. Call and cancel but be sure to say PERMANENTLY CANCEL. If you are still getting a paper, save yourself the $1.00, the Sunday walk to the end of your driveway, and use the web or news/ads/promos like everyone else. read more

What to do when you DON't want Newsday. Pretty much there is nothing you can do to get them to stop calling you. Block their number. That's of no use because they will just call you 10 minutes later from a different number. Call Newsday & ask them to stop calling you. They tell you they will stop, but they won't. They will call your home phone & your cell phone and always from a new number because every time they call you block the last number they called from. Once Newsday has you in their que, there is no way out. They will call you 5,6,7!times a day and always from a different number. Here is a tip, their area code is 631 and all of their numbers start with 419. If you see this pop up on your caller ID, don't pick up, just block the number. And don't think that will stop them. The holiday season is here, and no matter which of the primary winter holidays you celebrate, the Festival of Lights, hosted by Newsday, on their grounds, is a great place to visit with the kids to enjoy beautiful holiday lights . . . YES, I am calling them HOLIDAY lights, not to be politically correct, but to acknowledge that the lights acknowledge all of our respective observances, but, yes, the majority of lights, and music are Christmas based, and there is nothing wrong with that in my eyes. There are local vendors / merchants who have setup shop within the grounds of the display and I highly recommend visiting them and perhaps even consider doing business with them . . . these vendors are all from the Nassau/Suffolk community and are all trying to make a living and I know they would be grateful. Aside from the lights, music and vendors, there is an open air ice skating rink (separate charge from the entrance fee, and Santa is also in house for you and yours to be photographed with. They also have hot chocolate and food for sale, at reasonable cost. It's a nice and inexpensive evening out for the family. read more

How downhill they have come in the last 25 years. The list is long, but the quality of the journalism is down, more important stories get pushed back so store openings and such can get mentioned on the front page of digital at times. I am on an 8 week billing cycle. It started to appear that I was getting bills less than 8 weeks apart. I check my last 3 bills and find that the next cycle starts one week before the previous 8 week ended. I am getting 7 weeks for the price of 8. This is dishonest. Daily news has a much better and more well-rounded sports area On news day, it's all small snipits and the whole sports section consists of usually 10-15 pages for every sport and the standings . This is the kind of journalism that should not be tolerated and needs to be addressed. He is very unprofessional and the reason no one reads the paper anymore. Newsday subscription rates are very high for the quality and quantity of the content and they increase rates frequently. In fact the disclaimer in the rate section says periodic increases are necessary to maintain quality. However rather than maintain quality they have in fact cut out many features and columns over the years. They don't even provide a TV listings for the week. If you want that it is extra. Now they charge $3.50 extra for each of four "premium editions" each year. The premium editions are for such things as the Black Friday newspaper which has many supplements for ads. Newsday is charging an extra $3.50 to provide you with Black Friday ads. There is no extra content in the paper itself. Sorry, I'm not paying $3.50 for somebody's ads. Another premium edition is a magazine of puzzles. You are not asked if you want it, they send this book of puzzles and brain teasers and you pay $3.50 for it. And the way they charge you is sneaky. You don't see a charge on your bill of $3.50 for your puzzle magazine. They charge you normal subscription rates but reduce the time period you paid for as shown on your previous bill. I suspect they figure and hope most people won't know that the subscription period you paid for has been reduced by a week or two. I'm sure if there was a line item charge of $3.50 for Black Friday ads and a puzzle book people would demand refunds. read more

I have cancelled my 15 year + subscription today. In the past 3 months i have received over 50 calls from "restricted" numbers, accusing me of not paying my bill and/or trying to convince me to increase my delivery days. The "reps" are rude and I resent that I am not able to trace these numbers. In this day and age, you should earn your salary. Hope you all lose your job. Google is all I need. I have been a home delivery customer of Newsday for over thirty years. Now i have my 99 year old mom living with me she likes to read the paper in the morning. now she has to wait for me to get for her, I'm 74 and have health issues. I have been requesting the paper at the front door to no avail. When I call they tell me sure they will tell the delivery manager. Well that never happened after numerous request. The last draw was when we had snow, my steps and driveway were completely clear no snow no ice, don't you think they delivered it on the mound of snow on the lawn! I don;t know how may other seniors don't get the paper delivered because the can't go hunting for it. Newday has no regard for seniors!! Well I finally had it enough canceled it last month. I was tricked into a 1 yr subscription. I signed a 2 month promotion as i was at Citi Field I didnt get my paper delivered so i called Newsday and was told its to late to re deliver .I asked them where is that written was told its not. I asked for delivery of the paper today and was told they could deliver it the next day (REALLY) Who wants todays paper the next day. I spoke to a rep Miss Dixon who wasnt helpful. Now im stuck with a subscription that i still dont know about because they NEVER SENT ME A CONTRACT!!! and when they miss a delivery you could forget about getting the paper. Missing the delivery might not sound like much but im disabled and thats the reason i wanted a delivery. But again the customer service at Newsday stinks!!!!!! read more
